    how did you get -9.8 for the acceleration?
    please help, thanks

    • @MrSmithsPhysicsonline
      @MrSmithsPhysicsonline  5 лет назад +72

      That's the acceleration due to gravity. Using sign convention and taking upwards as positive, that means that acceleration due to gravity (always taken as downwards) must be -9.8ms-2.

    • @senatorbrizymoney3169
      @senatorbrizymoney3169 4 года назад +15

      good question

    • @deepikasaxena2287
      @deepikasaxena2287 4 года назад +14

      @Mariyam Jahangir Hey! 9.8 ms is the value of Earth's gravity. As the objects motion was upwards, the gravity was opposing it. So was used with negative sign .

    • @MrSmithsPhysicsonline
      @MrSmithsPhysicsonline  4 года назад +12

      @Mariyam Jahangir when you drop an object on Earth, it accelerates towards the ground at 9.8ms⁻² (ignoring the effects of air resistance). As for the negative sign, that's called 'sign convention' - deciding which direction is positive and which is negative. I take upwards to be the positive direction. Since objects accelerate downwards (the negative direction), acceleration due to gravity is taken as -9.8ms⁻²

    Why would people dislike the truth about the Equations of motion everything is perfect
    *its slow pace to not fall behind
    *simple and going through each step
    *perfect illustration
    i can't see why people disliked this?

    physics is the most dreadful of subjects especially when: you have an awful, abusive teacher, you're bad with numbers, there's a pandemic outside and the school tells you there's no exams, then 3 weeks before the exams they proceed to tell you about the exams.

    • @MrSmithsPhysicsonline

    how do u consider initial and final velocity of the ball be the same? ( although der is difference in sign due difference in direction)

      That's because (ignoring air resistance), the path of the projectile is perfectly symmetrical. The vertical velocity at any height on the way down will be equal to that on the way up.
