Tony Bennett had the longest prime in vocalist history. Combine that fact with the best jazz trio with Ralph Sharon, and music doesn't get any better than that.
It is more than a wonderful song. It´s a beautifully written song. Tony Bennett has d the magic to make any song vivid and romantic....great performance by the Ralph Sharon Trio.
I love seeing generations bridged like this. Like these 90s grunge kids who love Cobain and Pearl Jam but when Benett takes the stage they think "ahh shit. Guve some room to the classics! Classics are on everybody!" Lol idk maybe that makes no sense
MARAVILLOSA!!! Canción con el Magnifico TONY It seems like dreams I've always have Could be, should be making me glad But why am I blue? It's up to you to explain I'm thinking maybe, baby, I'll go away Someday, someway you'll come and say It's you that I need Maybe you'll be pleading in vain It had to be you, it had to be you I wandered around and finally found The somebody who could make me be blue Could make me be true or even be glad Just to be sad, thinking of you Some others I've seen, might never be mean Might never be cross or try to be boss But they wouldn't do For nobody else gave me a thrill With all your faults I love you still It had to be you, Wonderful you, it had to be you
Hello Tony Bennet & i've always liked your tunes & especially It had to be you & San-francisco. My dad Ozzie Bowen sang many of those old tunes on his t.v. show in Jackson Miss yrs ago. I'm now retired & moved to the Miss Gulf Coast at Biloxi/Ocean Springs, Miss, & I as I always have done as an avocation, play music on the side. though I'm retired from the insurance business. I mainly played Dixieland Jazz over the yrs but I can play piano, tenor banjo, guitar & upright string bass. I also sing the old standards like you incl it had to be you, girl of my dreams, what's new, lazy river, sweet georgia brown, ect. I especially like & have my own version of New York New York & It had to be you. I would like to meet you one day in person to say hello & shake your hand. I just wanted to say hello to you & to wish you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow, August 03, and that's my birthday too. Tony Bennet, Happy Birthday to you and me tomorrow, Aug 3, 2015. Joe G. Looking at the Grand piano in this set picture of Tony Bennett reminds me of my older brother Larry Bowen full size Steinway grand piano he owns which ive played many times while visiting him in Forestville, Maryland . Larry is retired from the u.s. air force & also is an accomplished musician. Tony Bennett has that special talent which I am of opinion is part of one's biological make up from birth & in DNA & genes. My initial plan was to study to become a psychiatrist. I Attended two colleges' & two universities but never finished the program. I did graduate studies in clinical psychology to incl, psysiological, client centered techniques, I.e. fredian, adler, Jung & gestault. I always had odd jobs on the side to finance my studies to incl , selling vacuum clnrs, wearever cookware, & mail order journals incl international correspondence school professional degrees, I.e. architect, CPA, accountant, draftsman. There are musical genes in my family on the Bowen side mainly & my father Ozzie Bowen was a musical genius & though he worked for ICRR he played as I do music as an avocation. My dad had his own t.v. show 1955-1960, The Ozzie Bowen Show in Jackson, Miss & had such greats as Bob Crosby "the bobcats", Miss America's Mary Ann Mobley, 1959 & Linda Lee Meade 1960 & famous violinist Rubinoff with his Stratovarus violin. I also played my tenor Banjo & sang on dad's show too. My considered opinion is many have musical abilities in their genes I.e. singing or playing musical instruments but they must nurture these abilities & strive to perfect them. At this moment Siriusly Sinatra satellite radio is playing a 'live' performance by Tony Bennett of IT HAD TO BE YOU - with the Ralph Sharon Trio, from his MTV 'unplugged' show which resulted in a million-selling album that won the top Grammy awards that year. We hear Tony's introduction that Johnny Mercer considered this "the best popular song" that Mercer ever heard. It's 2021 and Mr. Bennett is in his 95th year -- 'still going strong' to judge from his Facebook page, where Tony, in the comfort of his living room re-visits his own all time favorites -- like “Smile” (whose composer Charlie Chaplin considered Tony's early version to be the best he ever heard). Mr. Bennett's expanded Wikipedia entry notes: “He has no intention of retiring -- saying in reference to masters, such as Pablo Picasso, Jack Benny, and Fred Astaire: "Right up to the day they died, they were performing. If you are creative, you get busier as you get older!"
Recalling that, at the resurgence in his career in the late 1990s, Mr. Bennett was doing a hundred shows a year, and often makes a point of singing one song (usually "Fly Me to the Moon") without any microphone or amplification. A vivid reminder of why Sinatra considered Tony Bennett the best singer of them all. At this particular appearance in 1994 on 'MTV Unplugged' Mr. Bennett quipped: "I've been unplugged my whole career!" Featuring guest appearances by rock and country stars Elvis Costello and k.d. lang, the show attracted a considerable audience and the resulting "MTV Unplugged: Tony Bennett" album went platinum - taking the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance Grammy award for the third straight year, as well as winning the top Grammy for Album of the Year. [His two most recent “honors & awards” listed at Wiki:] A statue of Bennett was unveiled outside San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel on 19 August 2016, in honor of his 90th birthday, and his first performance of "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" at that hotel, in 1961.[128] A Guinness World Record for "the longest time between the release of an original recording and a re-recording of the same single by the same artist" for re-recording "Fascinating Rhythm" 68 years and 342 days after the original recording.[112] Thanks Tony Bennett for sharing. I feel so blessed to have discovered Tony Bennett when I was 8 years old. I have listened to him for 73 years. Such a privilege.

How can you not love him? Born to be the best in both being a singer and a human being. A legend. Miss him so much already...
A signature song for Tony among many he performed eloquently. May Tony live long in our hearts RIP
I love Tony, but this... this is Frank's song
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! 😍
It had to be you Tony, nobody but you who could sing this, this way and oh what a trio. Groeten uit Holland.
IMHO Ralph Sharon was one of the best accompanists who ever lived. It was a great loss to Tony's music when he retired.
Don’t forget my dad’s buddy, Jimmy Rowles. He taught me some simple tunes back in his Culver City days.
Oh my God I love this song Yes it had to be you What a beautiful beautiful song Thank you TV

It seems like dreams I've always have
Could be, should be making me glad
But why am I blue?
It's up to you to explain
I'm thinking maybe, baby, I'll go away
Someday, someway you'll come and say
It's you that I need
Maybe you'll be pleading in vain
It had to be you, it had to be you
I wandered around and finally found
The somebody who could make me be blue
Could make me be true or even be glad
Just to be sad, thinking of you
Some others I've seen, might never be mean
Might never be cross or try to be boss
But they wouldn't do
For nobody else gave me a thrill
With all your faults I love you still
It had to be you,
Wonderful you, it had to be you
Tony is carrying by a magic swing train
Geezz Ralph.....geezz...amazing 2021
