I feel so nostalgic hearing this, good old days when our single concern was about being burned to death, tied on a shaft, falsely accused of witchcraft
I don't want to spoil the fun but large witch hunts and public burnings are more of an early modern than a medieval things. There are recorded witchcraft and sorcery court hearings throughout the medievals but those were largely individual cases and not symptomatic for a broader sorcery hysteria. Apart from that, people sentenced to death by church courts for sorcery were mostly hung or drowned and not burned.

I remember it clearly...I was 13 and it was my first time at our local tavern with my brother. Some bathers played this piece. the whole tavern turned into a never-before-seen dance floor. It became one of the greatest and most well-known songs of the 13th century. Today, many hundreds of years later, a young Colombian woman sings to this melody and also makes me feel good. But happy to re-hear this old original version. How nostalgic...
remember it as if it was yesterday. I heard the song for the first time in the market square during an execution. All the screams and the cool beat went well together, I'm still on the vibe. In 1280 I had the time of my life. Then I died of typhus, I became very old, almost 24. I am happy that after my reincarnation I can hear the songs of my youth again. Thank you 😅

Ma Pa it shouldn’t be Catalan because that refers to the Catalan language, and Castilian is the Spanish spoken in Spain. And since shakira is known for singing in Spanish and the Moors were in Spain for quite some time, saying Catalan wouldn’t make sense.

This song actually works quite well with the BardCore style of music because I think it makes use of the pentatonic scale which was common in Medieval music.
Not of whitchcraft but of tempting men... No, I'm not exaggerating, that was an accusation, and while it did not lead to an execution it was harshly punished, then carry on with the social stigma for the rest of the life.
I came here from a tik-tok post saying that owners of the account used this song in their final project, because their teacher only listens to 16th century music. I was definitely not disappointed by the full version.
This proves that Shakira is a time traveler who taught everyone to the king and queen all the way to the peasants that no one's hip shall lie. She was ahead of her time.
I must say, if I did not know the original song and this version's title was different, I would think that this was a genuine medieval song, because it sounds so authentic! Who knows how people back then would have reacted to this masterpiece!
Because it's more subdued, more intimate. The original was loud and performative, like the beautiful person is up on stage showing off to everyone, everyone is dancing and having fun, here its quieter and slower, and that changes the mood. People dont play music like that all the time, it just sounds more seductive.
StxrryNxght Right? Fucking native speaking jerks. It‘s like english 0.5 and I have to try so hard to decipher that shit. But they just smash it into their keyboards like it‘s nothing
Takiyah Walker Shakespeare is technically modern English, as are most of the “Middle English” comments! Here’s Middle English from part of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales: I wol biwaille, in manere of tragedie, the harm of hem that stoode in heigh degree, and fillen so that ther nas no remedie to brynge hem out of hir adversitee. (Middle English is actually so darn cool if you have any interest in hybridization of languages. Germanic English was slowly being influenced by French, and you get this weird, confusing conglomeration that ended up becoming modern English. The above looks vaguely like modern English but is pronounced very Germanic.)
But the tapestries bear immortality beyond her years, surely one cannot ask a fair maiden to forever bear this one time lapse in morals to confess love to the blacksmith's son.
I played this during a D&D session during a festival segment and it played for an hour and a half before one of my players finally said "Hey wait a second-" This stuff is gold
"We are the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off."
The song (and others) is finally up on Spotify, Deezer and RUclips Music. I'm also trying to get it up onto Apple Music (and a few others)!

@@amissbennet Thanks.
Verily.
I really hope she does lyrics to this one
This proves that Shakira is a time traveler who taught everyone to the king and queen all the way to the peasants that no one's hip shall lie. She was ahead of her time.
She's a Phoenician Queen 😩
LOL
this would have had me shaking my mf bones on the way to be burned at the stake for witchcraft
Well if not for that, your username would've done the trick.

Once I saw a bee drown in honey and I understood true but i can’t help who i am
literally tho
thank you fatal gonorrhea
I must say, if I did not know the original song and this version's title was different, I would think that this was a genuine medieval song, because it sounds so authentic! Who knows how people back then would have reacted to this masterpiece!
I remember I was burned at the stake for dancing to this at a tavern
Worth it
Lol wut? 😂😂

What a coincidence I was burned for being a witch
This is absolute gold but the comments are the real winner here.

No they're not. Bunch of vapid fucking ankle jokes.
indeed ma'am
Your comment was the first one I saw. I read through the comments, and I was not disappointed. Lmaoo
Why is this more seductive than the original.
Cus she isn't a witch anymore
Because it's more subdued, more intimate. The original was loud and performative, like the beautiful person is up on stage showing off to everyone, everyone is dancing and having fun, here its quieter and slower, and that changes the mood. People dont play music like that all the time, it just sounds more seductive.
This is the original
Maybe because it makes it feel more scandalous to do something like this in medieval times whereas nowadays it's normalized in the music industry...
Because it being medieval with sexual undertones makes it feel a bit forbidden and naughty to enjoy.
This is one of the few times where someone gets the medieval style right! 100% A+++
i remember when queen elizabeth was belly dancing to this with her corset on.
ah, the days
Which queen Elisabeth? 😂😂

@@Schlecht_und_Teuer Years of learning shakespeare would do that
Takiyah Walker Shakespeare is technically modern English, as are most of the “Middle English” comments!

THIS ONE. THIS IS THE BEST COMMENT
But the tapestries bear immortality beyond her years, surely one cannot ask a fair maiden to forever bear this one time lapse in morals to confess love to the blacksmith's son.
