Puppet Master 3 is unbeatable. Puppets vs Nazis in WW2 Nazi Germany. What's not to love? 😅 Six shooter is so cool with his 8 limbs. He reminded me of a spider when he crawled up the wall. He also looked so awesome shooting with 6 guns.
Could you please explain to me the ending ,Toulon is now in a body of a women mannequin and they never show her ever again she was going to a children's asylum to kill children
Got here after Fullmoon shouted you out on Twitter, great reviews and rankings. Definitely some controversial picks but I can't say anything because I put 4 and 5 so high on my own list. Would love to see you talk about the Puppet Master comics at some point. The author actually fixes all the plot holes 9as much as possible), which I thought was an impossible feat. They're really impressively written.
Hey Chris! Thanks so much for watching. I really can see the merits of 4/5! Just not my personal faves. I’ve really really got to get the comics. I’m such an “all or nothing” collector I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for complete runs on eBay. But your comment prompted me to check if they were on ComiXology, since I do most of my comics reading digitally and... wow! They’re all there! Will start my read through soon and hopefully talk about them in a future video.
I will be picking up Clown in a Cornfield sometime soon. I just want to say thanks for inspiring me, man. I am an independent filmmaker and your work has helped me do the responsible thing and dive back into screenwriting. Btw Puppetmaster 2 is my favorite of the series. God bless you.
Since filming this I’ve read most of them (the more recent 5-arc run), so my plan is to discuss them whenever DOKTOR DEATH is released and I can do a coda to this video.
Excellent video dude, this was so much fun to watch, i pretty much go 2, 3, 1, LR, 4, 5, Curse then everything else pretty much tied for last, i dont like that Curse started the trend of using stock footage and having the puppets look like toys that are being held up from someone just off camera
Nice breakdown of the series. I remember watching 2-6 all through the 90s. I stopped after 6 because it just kinda fell off for me in quality. Really liked this presentation of the box set. Thanks!
Thanks for saying so, Jake! And, yeah, they never really recover anywhere near the budgets, after 6, but there are definitely more creative entries later on.
Nobuhiko Ôbayashi - House (1977) I’ve always loved this one. I think it was in the early 90’s when we had ‘Prism’ which was a local Philly sports & movie channel we had growing up to watch Flyers games. Little did mom and dad know, it had its dark side. Pre-Skin-a-max days I believe. If not, around the same time maybe? I just remember having a VCR with a remote that was actually still attached to the VCR itself with only approx. a 4’ chord or so. I’d sneak down in the middle of the night to try and catch some boobs or something and came across this. Also flipped through and Texas Chainsaw Massacre came on. The scene when Leatherface opens the door and nails dude in the head sending him down flopping around on the floor like a fish out of water all convulsing. Traumatized me. Then when Leatherface gently places that girl up on the meat hook.... haha. Jesus Christhole her reaction was SO unbelievably realistic. Panos Cosmatos - Mandy (2018) Damn. I obsessed over this films trailer forever. Then it finally came out in the Red Rock Theatre for a short weekend out here in Las Vegas (where I live) then I finally found a stream and obsessed. Then I bought the Blu Ray and obsessed more. Dunno, but Puppet Master 1-3 are all I can honestly handle. The Laser Tag shit in 4 was stupid-funny and wish I could do that with my cat or something but overall meh. Gonna def. grab me a copy of that book of yours soon though. All The Best!
This was a great watch! Thanks for making it! Good ranking. I def was tricked when you didn't pick PM3 for your #1. Camille was pretty creepy and I wish they followed her up in another movie.
Even though I watched these all the time, my favorite direct to video horror is Dolls. Just a more freaky and enjoyable killer doll movie and seriously freaked me out as a kid.

They are really weird and can be a lot of fun! Definitely worth checking out if you like cinema of this kind in general. You can catch all of them on sale on Full Moon's official site for real cheap quite often actually. Either the individual films or box sets. Just a fyi:) Enjoy!
I mean, everyone’s mileage is going to vary, but I def liked it. It’s probably 1/50th of the original’s budget, but for tone, pace, and general look, felt like a continued step in the right direction from AXIS TERMINATION.
Sad that the Puppet Master the Littlest Reich was skipped. I understand why as you said why, but still. I want a complete set with ALL the movies in one set.
I debated talking about both that and PMvDT, but ended up not since they really are outsourced/licensed productions. I wonder if there’ll ever be a day where they’re all released together. Outside of the obvious difficulties of wrangling the rights, I wonder if Band would even *want* to include them in a release he oversaw, or if he views one or both of them as muddying the brand in any way.
@@AdamCesare I hold out hope. If the Friday the 13th franchise can figure out all those legal tangles and during a lawsuit no less, I'm sure these guys can figure something out. Wishful thinking perhaps, but what's life without a little hope?
Love your ranking! I am right there with you on your ranking for the first three. That’s the order I put them in too. And I need to check out the newer ones! I never bothered watching besides past 9 besides The Littlest Reich, but I’m curious to see the others now, especially Blade. Also, kudos to you for making it through this entire video. I’ve been filming some bigger ones lately and damn, it takes a lot out of you! I had to go lay down for a nap after one and wound up sleeping for three hours 😆
Was def a marathon filming and editing session. With BLADE: I’d def make sure you at least watch AXIS TERMINATION first. Because even though it’s billed as a “spin-off” it’s def a direct sequel.
I always thought that the behavior of Toulon in Puppetmaster II was a combination of just "coming back wrong" as they say, the fact that his brain had been damaged by decomposition, and the fact that the puppets used animal brains rather than human brains in the formula. It also explains the creation of the more purely-evil Torch, and the fact he does not recognize Leech Woman as containing Elsa's spirit and instead thinks she's been reincarnated. (And the same reason he doesn't react after what happens to Leech Woman.) Toulon acts the way he does because he was literally driven insane by the way he was brought back to life.
That's exactly how I justify it up too and it works. I have my doubts that was intended but it's easy enough to justify when you consider how unusual Toulon’s resurrection was to the rest of the franchise. He was dead for a very long time, and the puppets bitched the recipe which is acknowledged in the film itself. So it's very easy to have zombie Toulon be a psychopath.
I loved your ranking it was very unique and while I haven’t seen Doktor death as I don’t have full moon streaming and tubi isn’t available where I live I will give you my ranking of this god awful but delightfully fun franchise from worst to best. (Including vs demonic toys and the littlest reich.) The Original should've been directed by Charles Band Because He's the Creator of the Puppet Master Franchise So It was all of his and Kenneth J. Hall's idea. ,Not David Schumacher's. If I was Charles Band ,I will Direct it and Hire David Schumacher to Produce it instead. Band Should've step up and Direct it. You know what?! I'm gonna say he Direct It. I don't care what you all say even when I do a video review of it.
My fave straight to video movies are Puppet Master 2-4 and Pumpkinhead. Fantastic horror films for their time, though very cheesy by today's standards. I also find it hilarious that the notorious David DeCoteau directed many of the PM movies lol.

I still need to see Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys, Iron Cross, and Dr. Death. I actually watched Dollman, Demonic Toys, Bad Channels, and Dollman vs Demonic Toys to get to the next one I missed. Still need to finish the Demonic Toys too. I'll rank the ones I've seen. Puppet Master Legacy Puppet Master Axis Termination Retro Puppet Master Puppet Master Axis Rising Puppet Master Axis of Evil Puppet Master 4 Puppet Master 5: The Final Chapter Curse of the Puppet Master Puppet Master Puppet Master III Toulon's Revenge Puppet Master II Puppet Master Littlest Reich
I watched the first 3 a lot as a kid and eventually saw 4&5. This year I decided to watch the rest and just binged the axis trilogy plus Iron Cross. I actually thought Axis of Evil was a good sequel considering how long the franchise has been around. I liked that we got to see what happened to the puppets after Toulon hid them. I was even excited to see the lookout puppet again, but once again he is never reanimated (why does Full Moon hate him? lol). But then Axis Rising went to shit. First it looked off like it was HD which took away the grittiness you want in a horror movie set during the war. The terrible recasting. And the puppets, what did they do to the puppets! I swear the Jester just has his dividing lines painted on his head. Are they ever going to explain how they get back to Bodega Bay Inn? I guess they don’t explain how they got back between the ending of 2 and start of 4.
Yes, but that’s something they added for Blade’s origin in the third movie. It was either Dave Allen or Dave Schmoeller (or both, I can’t quite remember) who, on the first one, based the look of the puppet on Klaus Kinski.
Only the first 5 are really worth watching unless you are a hardcore fan. The first 5 were made when Full Moon had money backing from Paramount which was in their heyday in the early 90s with stuff like Demonic Toys Subspecies 1 2 3 and the first 5 of these. Charles Band never cared about the continuity of the series he just wanted to put them out fast and try to score some cash but that worked better in the 9os because they had better production values because of the studio backing. The Puppet characters themselves in terms of design are better than the movies themselves however the first 5 are enjoyable B movie flicks for what they are then I would say just stop with the series unless you're a hardcore fan it pretty much goes to shit after 5 if you want more killer doll Full Moon action I would suggest Demonic Toys part 1 or hell even the classic Dollman even though he wasn't a toy lol. Doll Man vs Demonic toys is also good for what it is only because the guy who plays Doll Man is fun to watch. Full Moon has pretty much been in the shitter for years now besides some enjoyable so bad they're good movies here and there like the first Evil Bong and the 3 Gingerdead Man movies. Puppet Master 1 and 2 feel like they are of the same piece both horror flicks about killer puppets then with part 3 doing so well with having the puppets be good guys they said screw continuity and just made 3 and 4 direct sequels to 3 ignoring the cliffhanger ending of 2 lol. It's best to watch the series as different timelines and just see different movies as there own thing in there own continuity.
To my knowledge, all blu-ray versions are struck from the R-rated cut. There's videos floating around of the gore odds and ends that are "missing" but they add up to about 70 seconds of scene extensions, really doesn't add much beyond "wow. this shot holds a little longer than it probably should."
@@AdamCesare yeah, it did get an uncut release on US DVD but I believe all other disc releases to be the cut R version, missing about 95 seconds. The British VHS release used the unrated version with 2 seconds of cuts
NECA just released two packs of the original puppets (Blade, Tunneler, Pinhead, and Torch). No offense to Littelest Reich, but I'd much rather a few more of the O.G. series (Leech Woman, Jester) before they got there.
If the movies were so successful how come each new entry seems to be made on an even cheaper budget? The puppets from the Axis trilogy look way worse than their 1989 and 90s counterparts
Seems like a weird assumption? That a series would have bigger and bigger budgets as it goes. And 2 and 3 are much bigger budget (3 especially) than the first. And the first 5 were made while FM had the backing of Paramount Pictures, so they're *exponentially* bigger budgets than the Axis films. Axis Rising probably cost as much as the craft services budget of Toulon's Revenge. Mostly to do with how distribution (and the makeup of Full Moon itself) had changed over those decades.
I've seen the first five, and choose not to watch any of the others, as they look too goofy for me and the changed design of the puppets is a huge shame. Of the first five films, I rank them: 5. Puppet master 5 4. Puppet master 4 3. Puppet master 2. Puppet master 2 1. Puppet master 3 Tunneler is my favourite puppet, with Blade, Jester, Torch and Shredder Kahn all joint second place :)
I agree. While 1 barley has the puppets in it which made it quite forgettable and a bit boring at times 2-5 we’re the golden era for the puppet master series and are some of my favourite B-movies of all time up there with Tremors 1-4 and the original Lake placid and Deep blue sea.
@@yearunknown9602 the first one is good in that it establishes the series though and the location is awesome. The few times you do see the puppets is all top quality stop motion or animatronics unlike what this series has turned into now.
@@nickcarroll5034 I will admit my opinion has changed on the first puppet master. It’s still my least favourite of the first five but I have come to appreciate it for more and it is a great movie for what little budget it had. The stop motion is always my favourite part of the Puppet master series and that scene where Tunneller sits up in the elevator is one of my favourite stop motion segments of all time and I have no clue why.
Full Moon should be embarrassed by this release. They advertise it as remastered, yet you can clearly see all the ugly cut dots on the first film. Plus, it has no subtitles even though there is a scene where the actors are speaking German (that part alone should have forced subtitles).
Puppet Master 3 is unbeatable. Puppets vs Nazis in WW2 Nazi Germany. What's not to love? 😅
Six shooter is so cool with his 8 limbs. He reminded me of a spider when he crawled up the wall. He also looked so awesome shooting with 6 guns.

Yes, but that’s something they added for Blade’s origin in the third movie. It was either Dave Allen or Dave Schmoeller (or both, I can’t quite remember) who, on the first one, based the look of the puppet on Klaus Kinski.
But why were they after the puppet master 🤔

Reddit has a timeline for entire franchise
So the original movie,is that the cut or the unrated version?
To my knowledge, all blu-ray versions are struck from the R-rated cut. There's videos floating around of the gore odds and ends that are "missing" but they add up to about 70 seconds of scene extensions, really doesn't add much beyond "wow. this shot holds a little longer than it probably should."
@@AdamCesare yeah, it did get an uncut release on US DVD but I believe all other disc releases to be the cut R version, missing about 95 seconds. The British VHS release used the unrated version with 2 seconds of cuts
Is it just me or do we need neca to make puppet master littlest riech figures?
NECA just released two packs of the original puppets (Blade, Tunneler, Pinhead, and Torch). No offense to Littelest Reich, but I'd much rather a few more of the O.G. series (Leech Woman, Jester) before they got there.
@@AdamCesare ok
You are so handsome, the way you talk is totally awesome
@@AdamCesare Not a weird assumption comparing that is the standard for movie franchises.
I've seen the first five, and choose not to watch any of the others, as they look too goofy for me and the changed design of the puppets is a huge shame.
Of the first five films, I rank them:
5. Puppet master 5
4. Puppet master 4
3. Puppet master
2. Puppet master 2
1. Puppet master 3
Tunneler is my favourite puppet, with Blade, Jester, Torch and Shredder Kahn all joint second place :)
I like 4 and 5
Trick R Treat
That’s a good answer.
Cool man
Curse of the puppet master is my favorite in the series.
i like corn last time i had it.........it was in my poop
I watched like 4 of them and only liked the first oane
@Adam Cesare I just got started with my fantasy-adventure that's about normal, every-day humans moving into a town populated by "zoomorphic" humans.
i dont know,im watching pm1 and its diff now compared to when a kid, kinda meh.its a franchise i never got into.dolls is better lol
You had to sit through a lot of garbage
really the ones past 5 are not worth your time
