I read the story of Jim Thorpe. It's really sad and a real stain on the town's history, regardless of the "deal" struck with his widow. The town's history is rich enough. I wish for the town to return Jim Thorpe to his children. I recently read that a petition is being started to rename the town back to it's original name. Although I think dropping the Jim Thorpe name would be good, no one would know how to say the town's original name. They should just simply call it Bear Mountain, PA.

Interesting point. Why Bear Mountain? If am correct Mauch Chunk translated as Bear Place.
