I am neither vegetarian or vegan this video or rather the lecture has just changed me to be full vegan, I don't understand how people can treat animals in this way
Thank you for opening my eyes to the evils of the diary industry. I recently went vegetarian (recently as in, I made the jump FINALLY last week), and now, i'm never ever eating an animal product again. Forget Vegetarian, here I come Veganism.
This guy is amazing. I started tearing up. And I've been a vegan for almost a year. He doesn't hold back, he says exactly what's needed to be said, no matter how ugly the truth is.
I have been vegetarian for 2 years, my mum wouldn't let me go vegan, but I showed her these two videos ONCE, and she immediately let me go vegan.
I'm just really glad that there are people like him. Not everyone has the set of skills to transfer such an important issue into the ignorant minds. Brilliant.

Dude, I'm tall, fit, healthy, strong and athletic eating only grains, fruits, vegetables, lentils for the past 25 years. 0 Diseases, no doctor, no medical insurance, no medical bills, no supplements. And I'm 25.
Read up McDougall's stuff if got misinformed about grains.
not that long ago i made the decision to be come a vegetarian . And i knew i wasnt going vegan only because i love milk & chesse. But you have opend my eyes , i didnt know ppl were so cruel to the animals in dairy farms! Its horribile these innocent animals These creatures that god have given us have done no wrong. But suffer the most. My heart aches for all of theses animal . And i will not be blinded anymore !! i refuse to be apart of this massacre .
As of 8-22-13 i am going VEGAN!!!!!

Being vegan is the most liberating feeling you can dream of. My fiance and I have been vegan for a while and we would never go back to being enslaved into the animal product world. Not only do we feel better, but we look great! His kidney condition is "cured" and I in school to become a MD who heals with a starch based, whole grain diet. I am an EMT and have seen the effects of meat/cheese/diary/eggs. WAY too much in the field. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!! This life is beautiful! My dog is even vegan!

yep! we have gone vegan too after watching these videos, we have been vegetarians for 6 yrs so this is a natural process! the cruelty the animals endure is beyond comprehension - the men guilty of these heinous crimes should be punished for their crimes, jail is where they should be.
Great speech! Got me fired up more then anything promoting veganism that I've ever seen! This was a great was to celebrate being NINE WEEKS vegan! :) But I gotta say, it pisses me off that the uploader disabled comments. Freedom of speech and discussion is a great thing. :) Peace and love.

I grew up on a beef farm but I've always sympathized with the animals and was distressed with butchering - I'd go into the fields and woods those days, but I was just a kid. I quit eating meat fully over a year ago (mostly kept meat through the years because the men I was with wouldn't tolerate else) and farmer friends were horrified. Dad did treat animals and land well and didn't enjoy butchering, but raised 'meat and potatoes' diet from the 1920's. I chose to follow my integrity on it.
Amazing and passionate speech!! I have been converting to vegetarianism for the last month after wanting to do it for the last 5 years, but lacking the real will power. The more I have researched it, the more I have let my compassion guide me to do what's right for the animals, the environment, and ourselves. It really is common sense, and the way we have been doing things has not used any. Gary shows us just but one facet of the way we let corporations tell us what to do, think, and buy.
I want to thank you for speaking and showing the ugly truth we have been conditioned to ignore. I just turned 60 in Dec 2012.. quite a latecomer to this movement and lifestyle, but what small part I will play will be a rewarding one in my heart and mind. The animals will have one less advocate for pain and suffering. I will sleep well at night knowing this and I will possibly not have the pain and suffering health issues as well. You have help turn my world to a positive place today thank you!

GY seems to live a noble noncontradictory lifestyle unlike 99.9999% of the people out there including the supposed "great" people and the "men of the year". I also applaud him for calling out humane society and PETA.
Also, he's sharp in his presentation and his Q&A.
I've never tried to be hide being a hypocrite. I am addicted to meat but I am willing to change to avoid cancers and to live a life that will give our future a chance.
I like him. All of us should think about all this

My dog is vegan too! (With the occasional non-vegan treat from unknowing relatives). She just loves it!! We are all vegan and cook and eat together. It's so much fun.

I just watched the speech and that video of the guy hurting those poor cows made me wonder - If he could do that to a harmless creature what is he capable of doing to another human being. I feel sick at the thought of him having children!

I can't thank people like Gary enough for making people aware of the cruelty humans commit to. YOU can do more than being a vegan/vegetarian, sign petitions whenever you can, you'd be surprised how much difference it makes!
Thanks very much for your videos. I am very much into philosophy & ethics and I have struggled with feeding my dogs for some time. Right now I feed them raw meat, meaty bones and veggies (BARF), but I'm very aware I'm contributing to the problem. I recently read that the oldest dog alive in the UK is a vegan at 28yrs. I'll certainly look into alternatives for them. Keep up the good work. Best wishes.
I love you Gary, Im Vegan and its the best thing I have done in my life. Just to point out, my cat actually refuses to eat meaty food and he rather has other flavors.... I believe its possible for cats to be Vegans....
I went from vegetarian to vegan exactly one week ago and my only regret is that I did not do it sooner. I knew the medical and health arguments but could not get past the "for me" feeling such as why I cannot commit to religion…the premise seems to benefit me. However, I logged on to Sea Shepherd and had an epiphany, and know now what my calling is. I abhor, hate, abominate cruelty of any kind to any defenseless creature and my stance is not arguable nor will I ever waiver. Thank you Gary!

Just discovered this guy and oh my, what an inspiration. The fact that he was put in prison side by side with murderers, child molesters etc. because he freed captive animals is so sick. Yet he comes back out fighting for the cause. The world needs to change and this guy is leading the way.

Gary, you are amazing, inspirational, eloquent & honest! I am in awe of you. I have been vegan 17 years now & veggie 5 years prior to that, becoming vegan when I learnt the truth abouth the dairy & egg industries. Your speech should be compulsory viewing in schools.

I extend warm greetings from a cold Sweden! I've been a inveterate meat-eater all my life and I just turned 30. I came upon your speech by random browsing and it was as if you pulled the veil from my eyes. What I had deep down known for a long time but yet never realized was now ridicously obvious. As of now I've turned Vegan and every time I'll feel my resolve waning I will come back and watch this. I'll make sure to spread this video and your knowledge. One day animals will be free!

i think eating fish in some ways is even worse than eating other animals because the oceans are being ruined by the destructive ways fish and seafood are caught, like trawling. lots of ocean creatures are really intelligent too. i think people just dont relate to them as well as land animals cause they seem so alien to humans, but they're actually really cool creatures that should be respected like land animals, as you'll see if you go snorkelling and stuff..
I am a new vegan and am absolutely inspired by both your speech and the Q & A session. If I ever feel myself doubting my reasons for veganism, I know now where to come to have my own feelings reinforced. Thank you!
I would like to thank you for making this your lifes passion. I have been eating healthy for myself for years now, but I never realized that vegan meant so much. It disgusts me to think that I have participated in this lifestyle for so long without even a question or concern. To all people out there: do not fear to go Vegan, it's amazing ! I also couldn't go vegan for 1.5 years, why? You guessed it, cheese... I never cooked before and now I cook delicious stuff, because I have a lot of energy and motivation to do it.

Awesome Gary--Raw vegan here for 12 years. Your primary goal to get people away from animal products is incredibly inspiring. I understand why you may need to highlight meat analogs from soy products to initiate change. From a health perspective I eschew soy. I also believe that soy feed (along with GMO corn), being extremely inexpensive, is the number 1 choice to feed at factory farms. cont'd

My dogs have been vegan for a long time and they are healthy.
I'm so thankful that Gary answers every single question with rationality! He makes veganism make total sense! No excuses... Nothing hasn't been examined to conclude it's the absolute right thing to do! Thanks Gary Yourofsky for representing us so well!
so refreshing to hear logic and truth applied to a public speech, a redeeming value in humanity
if you are living in Alaska, in a self-built house or cave, and there is nothing else to eat just the fish or something else you can catch, then of course, you wont even think about something else, but the problem is that so many of this population is living in these kind of circumstances, that its just impossible to say that "I eat meat just to survive."

This is a total mind changing video for me, after I saw the full speech and Q&A session, I became a vegan, and I will never go back! alto being a vegan is super difficult in Taiwan, because vegan food are so much less.. and most of vegan restaurants here are too salty.. but no matter how difficult it is, I wont eat a single animal product ever again. And I'll try to convince more peoples to be vegan

Hi~ I just wanted to let you know that I used to be allergic to cats, dogs, horses, nuts, avocados, bananas, and all melons (I'm a vegan now, so these foods are all the things I love most). I did my 1st 10 day juice fast and completely and totally LOST EVERY ALLERGY I had, and they haven't been back in 10 years! Check out "juice feasting"... good luck to you!
Anything that does not contain animal ingredients is vegan. White rice is definitely vegan, although brown rice is much better for you :) A lot of pastas are vegan but just make sure you read the ingredients first as some pastas contain eggs which makes them unsuitable for vegans. Hope this helps :)

This made me think a lot about reconsidering my own approach towards this issue. I think the problem is very complex, and I didn't really feel like I could make a change, that it wouldn't really matter if i eat meat or not.
I guess we all talk a lot without acting.
However it ends now, so a new chapter can begin for me at least.
Hopefully inspiring the world around me to do the same.

The best speech I've ever seen.
I agree that we evolved as omnivores, but the main point of being human that sets us apart from other animals is the ability to transcend our limitations and show empathy and compassion. We don't need to kill animals anymore, as there are plenty of options for food now. I occasionally eat meat but have cut down tremendously over the past few years, and I buy mostly organic. My health is so much better now and I feel peace of mind. That's worth it to me.
