Shoulders. I have rotator cuff tears in both shoulders. I never did surgery because I've seen all the problems with that. They were mostly pain free til last May. I suspect toxic smoke from the Canadian wildfires. They've gotten better, but not up to pre May '23 levels and much weaker. Sauna's have helped, but I have to be careful how I lift my left arm. The pain can be shooting and feels like nerve pain.

I thought I had plantar fasciitis in my heal but doing a calf raise with that foot is pretty painful. I’m recovering from sciatic nerve pain and this foot issue started during my recovery. I do martial arts and I can’t do anything involving jumping anymore. It’s very discouraging for me.

Hi Doc, I came across your video as I felt my tendinitis of seven years (got it in 2016) acting up. I have tried shockwave therapy before (in 2019), and it got significantly better, but I failed to stay consistent in strengthening my tendon. Is it best if I get another shockwave therapy or I can just focus on strengthening and progressive loading? Many thanks in advance!

To grow any muscle requires consistency and progressive overload. The challenge with calves is that they are accustomed to a lot of volume already - from carrying our body weight all day, walking, running, etc. So, those of us who are not genetically gifted with respect to calf development, have to do a lot (in terms of volume, ROM & resistance) to create enough stimulus to grow.

Btw I now have enormous knee problem with my left knee and it happened by doing leg presses and the last set with 220 kg it went wrong and i noticed it with walking. But strange enough not with doing squats for warming up after 1 week. And now 3 weeks later i hardly can bend my left knee it causes a lot of pain. So climbing a staircase is almost not done or i have to pull myself up along the ramps. Yoni, what do you think happened, is it the meniscus what cracked or the tendons along my knee? But i see i have a serious painful problem which will not recover soon. And the second week after i still could do leg presses with up to 120 kg but now also not even this....and since yesterday i also noticed to take the staircase is a hard job

Sorry to hear about your injury! It's hard to say without an examination, Christian. I would encourage you to seek out a qualified practitioner in your area and get the problem assessed as soon as possible.

Is this for mid portion achilles? Or insertional achilles tendonitis? Having insertional achilles pain right now…tia

Great question! These strategies would be very helpful for both. For insertional, I will often add in some more specific myofascial work & light therapy.

Ari, Your left calf muscles look significantly more developed than your right calf muscles.

Keen observation, Jill. I torn a calf muscle last year and it created an imbalance in muscle size that I'm still working to correct.
