  • This week on The Collider Podcast we're joined by very special guest Bob Gale, the co-writer of the Back to the Future trilogy. With the trilogy hitting 4K Blu-ray on October 20th, Gale sat down to talk with us about his memories of making the films, filming the sequels back-to-back, how they pitched Universal on the financials, his irritation with backlash to the "Johnny B. Goode" joke, why there won't be a Back to the Future 4, and much more. It was a pleasure to talk with Gale, and hopefully you'll enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed recording it.
As a small programming note, we're currently in between podcast providers, so this episode will currently live on RUclips only while we finalize plans with a new podcasting home. We hope to have it as audio-only as soon as possible.

I really love the way that Bob Gale talks about not doing another BTTF movie, i completely agree with him. Hollywood, Universal or Disney would destroy the BTTF franchise with another movie. It's the perfect trilogy and don't touch it. thank you!

Missed the BEST story about being turned down by Disney for the original film because they said “This is Disney, we can’t make this film, it’s about incest!” 😎

I have been so far out of the loop with Collider that I have no idea who these people on the shows are anymore. What the F happened? Where's Dennis? Where's the schmucks? Where did the girls go?

They made a bunch of low-level cartoons, not ground-breaking comic books and video games, a fair but perfunctory ride, a musical, but Heaven forbid they ever make another good episode!

It's too late for part 4. Show me one sequel that came out 10 or 20 years later which didn't suck.

The idea that Marty stole the invention of Rock and Roll from a person of color is idiotic. He was playing a Chuck Berry song! Chuck Berry was inspired by Mary who was inspired by Chuck Berry! That is such a 2020 "problematic" issue. Its cringe inducing to hear people ask that question. Same with the "weirdness" and idea of having to explain why Marty and Doc are friends. Their pure friendship is, to me, the heart of the series.

    Awesome interview!
Glad this is a movie series that won't get a remake or reboot. I've never entertained any variation of this trilogy but the comic book has me intrigued but I'll probably skip it.
The Doc and Marty origin story I like was in the original movie when Marty goes back in time.
At the beginning of the movie we see the model of a clock with Doc Brown hanging from it and at the end of the movie Doc has managed to tape together the letter Marty wrote him. So to me after Doc Brown sent Marty back to 86, he was waiting to be reunited if not looking for Marty McFly for a long time.
