Those seats look so comfy and squishy!
They were very comfortable on '93-'95 GC Limiteds and GW('93 only).
They are like pillows, I found a limited with the same seats and swapped them in my Laredo and they are so comfy and I can drive for hours comfortably
One of the worst cars I've ever sat in . Second only to the back seat of a VW Beetle. Which @ 6'4 I couldn't fit in.
I can confirm as I own one they are soft and squishy
They where so comfy you could fall a sleep while driving!
When people think of the Grand Wagoneer, they sure don't think about this one. lol. I mean, Chrysler, just slapped the Grand Wagoneers name on a Grand Cherokee. Gave it all the optional upgrades from the Grand Cherokee and made them standard on this version. Then, threw in some fake wood panel trim, and called it a day. It was really a slap in the face to the original Grand Wagoneer when they did this.
Yea, this Grand Wagoneer was pretty much just a trim level to the Grand Cherokee

This version and the Orvis edition are my favorites Grand Cherokees by far. I'm proud owner of a 97 Orvis and I love it.
Go spit on Abraham Lincoln's grave I paid $1300 CAD, with 269k kms on it. They changed water pump and took good care. I put another 800 on top and work my self on it, I re-soldered some electronic stuff, New tires, fluids and some other small things. Works very nice, I just drive it on the weekends. My daily is a 01 Subaru Outback H6, anytime I jump to this feels like a Porsche the way it handles compared with the Jeep lol.
the 5.9 limited is a good one, too.
I was OBSESSED with the Orvis Edition when I was a kid. That pearlescent green exterior with the green two tone interior. I begged my parents to get one... but money was tight.
I remember my dad bought a new 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 Gold Package Edition, mannn.... Till this day I miss that car 😢

Weight spent in the pursuit of safety. Modern cars don't tend to fold like accordions like these old cars.
Even midsize cars are quickly pushing that weight these days. They add more shit to cars year after year. Even the new GM full-sizers (Tahoe/Yukon/Burban/Escalade) are even heavier for 2021!
BMW is more about maximum bling and gadgets to appeal to the Chinese market that would be happy with a zero to sixty time slower than even a Toyota Prius. The curb weight doesn’t matter when all most BMW buyers want is the roundel badge to impress their neighbors.
In 1998 they added the 5.9L. Road and track managed 6.8 0-60. It was one of the quickest bricks on the road. I had a 2004 GC. It was a good vehicle but was rough with a solid front axle and had a noisy air-conditioner.
The solid front axle is what made them a solid vehicle on and offroad. Far less alignment issues than today's soft roader independent suspension cars are made with. The earlier XJ's and FSJ's had a axle disconnect in the front axle which was vacuum operated and proved to be very troublesome in later years, luckily they never used that crap in the later XJ's and ZJ's.
@@wildbill23c totally agree. I put mine through more than I should have with mild all terrain tires. It even had a limited slip rear axle on a base 4x4.

Yup, the solid-axle up front is what gave it superior offroading and towing of the day. I believe 4.7 H.O. GCs towed 7k pounds in 2004! The new F150 back then could only do 9k max.
Yup. The "Five-Nine Limited" of '98(only model year) was fast for its time. Faster than the ML430 that came as a competitor the same year(but model-year '99). I still remember the Barry White commercial of him crooning while driving his silver 5.9. Jeep was the architect of what is now a GLE63, X5 M, and Cayenne Turbo. It even had a VENTED hood! LOL And the don't forget about the Durango R/T, kinda predating the current Durango 392! Jeep/Dodge have always had a thing for bonkers V8 power in SUVs.
I love that wood grain. Reminds me of the Wagons of the 80s and early 90s. Can’t beat the real woodie wagons in the 40s and 50s though!

Because everything has to be "sporty" these days, even the land boats. Stupid fad if you ask me.

Yup. Everything has to measure up to what the Germans are doing. These seats were so comfy on my '95 Limited when I commuted 1hr back and forth to college way back in the day.
Because stupid auto journalists demanded everything be sporty even though 99% of your time will be just driving on alot of crappy roads in the US if I'm being honest lol

Still have a 1996 grand Cherokee with a 5.2 v8, owned I’d it now 23 years, wish I could buy a brand new of the same year! Great vehicle!
Get a modern Lexus GX460, pretty similar concept and design with a fulltime 4wd, low range, V8 etc etc and plenty of luxury and reliability

Pretty darned good performance from the 5.2. MPG isn’t the best, but this thing moves pretty well!
Still nothing like the 98 Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9L 360's though....sadly the only year they offered them with the 360, so they're not as easy to find as every other model.
The V8 engines tend to be fuel hungry.
Who needs 5 sec 0-60 in a SUV?
Oh they were damn thirsty, but that 318 was a workhorse.
Its amazing seeing so many Jeeps from the 1990-2000 era still on the roads, obviously, there are more of the new ones, but compared to other cars from that time, Jeeps are 90% of what i see on the road. It seems to me that Jeep has done something right back then. Im impressed and proud to be an owner of one, and being able to see so many more every time i drive it.

I got a new '93 Cherokee Laredo 4X4 V8, leather w the UpCountry pkg and I loved that vehicle. I traded it in on a new '99 Limited spec'sd out almost identically but I didn't like it nearly as much as my old one for some reason. I just never got comfortable in it. I traded it in on a new '01 land Cruiser and I still have it actually. It only has 109,000 miles so it's not even broken in yet !!

My only issues with the Wagoner was that they were made with cheap materials. I loved mine but the rattles and squeaks from a very premium SUV gave it a very cheap feel. The seats and V8 engine were the best parts of this Jeep. I had mine for just over 5 years and by the time I traded it in I only had 22,218 miles on it. I treated that thing like a baby but at the end of the day all of the TLC I gave it didn’t matter. It still fell apart. My next SUV purchase was a 2011 SRX4 2.8T and I absolutely love it. As of 1-15-2022 I’ve got 31,681 miles on it and it’s in perfect condition. It’s amazing the difference in build quality. The Wagoner was the premium SUV of its time but it shouldn’t have had the cheap feel to it like it did.
I love the wood paneling and the little fog lights out on the bumper. I wish they still had vehicles with wood paneling. Plus the new Wagoneer isn't as nice looking as this one.
Back when Jeeps had true off-road capability. Long live the 90's!
Oh what I would give for one of these. Loved them. Had an 87 xjwagoneer and an 83 big wagoner. Awesome rigs.

The ZJ Grands were a tough act to follow. Chrysler never really could make a better example.
I’ve had a ‘97 5.2 for the last 3 years. Such a solid vehicle, save for a few electrical gremlins. The V8 and full time 4x4 make it unstoppable in snow with the right tires.
I had a 96 limited with the 5.2. Vehicle ran like a top. Of Chrysler has to buy them and screw it up.
This was the reason Chrysler bought AMC. Jeep!
Same for Fiat
and the only reason they're surviving now lol

Jeep and RAM are the only brands that are making profit for FCA.

At 50 seconds you can see the 8 slat grill! That was changed to the traditional 7 slat grill later.

Do you take requests? Or is there a legal or licensing agreement you must follow to release that content? *meaning, perhaps based on date of recording, car manufacture consent, etc.
We don't take requests directly just because when we've done it in the past, it is way too overwhelming. But we do read the comments and sometimes our uploads are inspired by them!
Ahh, I miss SUVs that are capable offroaders, have some luxury features, and look like actual SUVs without being $60k to $100k or more. Real 4x4 setups, not overweight cars with a few more inches of ground clearance that are designed to appease people who like the theory of an offroad vehicle, but are offended that it doesn't drive like a mediocre sedan.
If these and their Grand Cherokee stable mates weren't all clapped out and ill maintained, I'd still want one. Same with 1st gen Explorers in XLT or Limited trim.
This is a Grand Wagoneer that I want. It's much cheaper than the current one. Although the current one is worth the over $100,000 it costs, the 1993 version is just as luxurious.
The 93 isn't nearly as luxurious as a modern GW, even a modern Rav4 is more luxurious when fully loaded
I never knew there was a grand Wagoneer grand Cherokee trim level. Now I hope to see one on the road, 27 years later.

My 1997 e39 540i 6 speed weights a little bit more than your Lexus(my car is a little bit bigger but you have more tech in your car). So cars were pretty heavy back in the 90s too.
Looking at this old show about the Wagoneer, just makes me want to continue on keeping and restoring my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo! Not a V-8, but a V-6 and still rides good! About $3000 would get it all done, just a fixed income makes the job slow. But not impossible 😅!
The 6 cylinder is a far better motor than the 4.7L V8 that came in the 2002s, id personally sell it for a few grand and get a really clean loaded low mileage second gen with the I6, they're hard to find buy do exist.

It's definitley the best looking SUV of the time. Still looks pretty contemporary compared to the previous generation Grand Wagoneer.

I think 90s Chrysler products are some of the nicest looking vehicles ever made. Grand Cherokee, Chrysler Cirrus and 1999 Town and Country Limited are some of my favourite looking vehicles

Not a fan of wood paneling, but it looks pretty good on this. Pretty ridiculous markup though from a loaded Grand Cherokee which was pretty much identical in every other way.
Even I do not remember this particular model. More of a trim level for the grand Cherokee. I guess it's for those who wanted a grand Cherokee; but wanted to make it look like it was designed during the Kennedy administration
Yes it was just a trim package, and a ridiculously over-priced one at that. It was nothing more than a Limited Grand Cherokee with Grand Wagoneer stickers on it.
It was a slow seller. It only lasted for the 1993 model year only.
Also, I've never understood why '90s and early '00s cars came with pre-fogged, hazy headlights lol

They were not hazy or pre-fogged headlights, they were composite headlamps or frosted some call it. It is the first of its kind and lighting output was not that bad for its time btw.

You mean the sealed beam lenses? They were the standard for halogen lights back before the fancy LED/HID lights.
Clear lens headlights weren't really a thing yet in the early 90's. The only car I can think of having them in 1993 was the Honda Accord.

My favourite Jeep vehicle of the 1990s...gotta love that CD player at the 2:45 mark, which adds to the 1990s nostalgia, replacing the audio cassette format which was dwindling in popularity by that time! BTW, the Cherokee nameplate needs to be retired by Jeep due to being a name of a Native American tribe!

"Sporty 225 series tires." My dad's 2015 GC has 265 series tires and they don't looks overly wide on his bloated pig. The early 90s was the sweet sport for Jeep. Earlier ones are rust buckets and horrifically unreliable and thirsty. Later ones are just horrifically unreliable and thirsty. Note: I own a 1977 Wagoneer with a four barrel carbed 360. It goes through ignition control modules so often we keep one in the glove box.
Adjusted for inflation: this bad boy would've cost 60k today! Phew! But I tell ya what, I would kill to have one and those seats look like lazy boys!
I'd go with the regular cherokee with 4.0/manual ...

I consider myself lucky, I have the 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 limited, and a 1990 Grand Wagoneer, im not rich enough for the new 100k Grand Wagoneer, I do see alot of things brought to it from the original that people keep missing, they overlook alot of stuff brought over, and just complain about the lack of wood paneling. Im sure there will be 3rd parties out there that can add wood paneling to it. If oyu have the money to spend 100k im sure you can spend money to get some vinyl put on.
But yea the new wagoneers arent that great looking, they might have added some things from the original but they missed out on alot of other features i would have implemented as the designer.
org gw was 108.7"wb 186.4 L. . 75.6 wide not full size ,it didn't have 3 rows, as lot of us have no need for a 7-8 pass family car .new one need s rib roof and the same rear 1/4 panel windows hate the new ones d panel / rear side 1/4 window up tick look s like all the rest
@@youtubecarspottersguide1 original is fullsized. Compared to cars of ITS TIME it was massive. Hense why its called a Fsj fullsized Jeep.
Also its got 90 cubic feet of cargo room when the bench seat is taken out and 75 with it in. A modern Grand cherokee has only 63 i believe.
I own one lol. Compared to modern suvs its about average. But to say it isnt a fullsized Jeep based on modern standards is silly. It was massivly bigger than any Jeep of its time for 30 years. And still bigger than its replacement the ZJ Grand Cherokee.

Yeah and when that stuff breaks it’s frightfully expensive to repair. The screen on my sister’s Range Rover went out which is how the AC and Radio are controlled, the dealership wanted almost $5,000 to replace it!
NikateeN - That’s nuts. In my opinion, the vast majority of new cars today won’t make it 20+ years like so many ‘90s cars already have.
Why?
With all the tech features being so integrated into vehicles today, they, like any other device, will become outdated and obsolete within a few years. Once the “big” things start to break (like in your sister’s Range Rover), why bother fixing them? Who’s even going to WANT to fix them?
The cars will simply be discarded. Hopefully I’m wrong.
Drive DB7 Cars have sadly become appliances. Toss them out when they break...they all look the same nowadays too
langer24106 - Can’t say I disagree. They’re all so similar in every way now. To be truly honest, I can’t really think of ANY new car on the market today that really “does it” for me. Nothing really stands out as exceptional anymore. Maybe I’m just getting old and hard to please...

The 318 was about 25 years old when the ZJ came out, so it doesn't surprise me. It did get a huge torque bump in '96 tho to 330.

I own a grand cherokee laredo from this generation (ZJ) and granted, it doesn't have the leather, heated seats, or sunroof, I cannot see one of these being worth that much new. You could get a lot of cars for the same price that I would much rather have (as would a lot of other people as I have never seen one of these on the road)
