      @michaelpopkins3002 Thank you so much brother! I can't tell you how much your constant support has motivated me. Seriously I was planning on heading off to bed but I wanted to wait as long as I could, just in case you'd comment so I could reply asap 🙂 it was your Q&A question that made me realize I should revisit this topic!
      It's been surreal man, especially on Instagram. I'll log on and see 5 posts from guys lifting sandbags saying I motivated them to start, I couldn't be more honored! A friend of mine Cory Rockwell (aka mooseville strong) told me a while back something along the lines of, "Those who can't do, teach!" Referring to me. I always thought I should probably be mad about that haha, even though he's a great guy and meant well, but honestly I never was, and it ended up being the best motivator. I'm not the strongest guy, but I've figured out how to make myself much stronger, and getting to share how I did it with so many people is a dream come true. Seeing guys pass my PRs using my advice is like getting a PR myself haha, I couldn't be more proud of this sandbag community

    I did a job a few months ago unloading a semi trailer full of 150lb bags of coffee beans by hand. For whatever reason they couldn't get a lift in the trailer. I thought I would impress everyone by effortlessly throwing them onto my shoulder and walking out of the trailer while other people were busy fumbling around trying to figure out how to best work in pairs to carry them.
    I was wrong. These bags were so underfilled that what should have been an easy shoulder turned into a battle with the bag. After working way too hard to carry out that first sand bag I resigned myself to work with another guy to get it done quicker, but I always wanted to be able to go back to that place and move a whole pallet of them myself.

    Great video! 👍 12:16 I just noticed, that what you said about the Ironmind bags also holds true for my now retired 220lb DIY sandbag Floppy: "With proper maintenance between sets you can keep them tighly packed, but left to do as they will, they tend to spread out, acting more like underfilled sandbags". I still remember how much easier it immediately became to shoulder Floppy, once I had discovered the hack of forcing it into a more stable shape by strapping several resistance bands around it.

    i am a pretty experienced lifter, and pretty far along with calisthenics. i can deadlift 405, do handstand pushups and tuck planche, and have a solid physique, but i find that the gym feels vapid and sterile nowadays.

    I use an adjustable bag. Currently it's about 36kg, which is plenty challenging for turkish getups. By definition it's always underfilled. It's always a little bit floppy, and sometimes the strap comes loose and unravels a little bit, though it hasn't too bad lately.

    Love the football story. This is kind of stuff is why I enjoy watching "good" youtube videos (and sometimes making them). Anyway, I’ve been working with a 100kg (220 pounds) Cerberus sandbag, but I’ve only filled it up to 75kg (165). I figured it’d be an easier progression to start with since, well, less weight means easier, right? Right? Not always. The weight shifts unpredictably, and it’s incredibly awkward to shoulder, as the former sandbag-shaped object turns into an expanded mess of shifting sand. Now, imagine being tired and doing a fourth set of carries, only for you to mess up the lift to your chest. Suddenly, all the weight sinks lower in the bag, completely changing the dynamic. It feels like an entirely different exercise. Long story short: Sandbags don’t care about your plans. The awkward weight, shifting balance, and unpredictability turn even lighter loads into a brutal challenge... And that’s why they’re so effective. I will keep working with the loose bag before jumping up to the full 100kg!

      @thestonecircle  18 дней назад +1

      Thanks man! I feel that completely haha, when the sand all shifts to the bottom randomly and now your lifting this weirdly shaped thing, it's so tough :D

  • @MSHNKTRL

    I was concerned about this type of training since Cerberus bags go in sizes of 172, then 220 lbs, and I'm trying to go in 50lb increments up from 100. I was thinking that there would be some disadvantage with having a too-empty bag.

    • @thestonecircle
      @thestonecircle  18 дней назад +1

      Definitely has it's ups and downs! My recommendation if you jump up to a heavier partly filled sandbag is to keep working on improving your strength off the ground with the lighter tightly packed bag in addition to the new bag, practicing things like rows, and the one motion lift from the ground to the chest

    I’ve gotten into sandbags about 6 months ago. I pretty much have been watching your videos exclusively. I’ve got one problem, when lifting my heavier sandbags to shoulder I almost start to blackout. It usually happens when I’m trying to get the sandbag to my shoulder. Just wondering if you’ve heard of this or have had any problems like this.. I’ve tried different things with breathing/bracing and it doesn’t seem to help. Not sure what to do.

      Hey that's awesome you've been training with sandbags too!!
      I had a 250 fall on my head from that one time actually, learned my lesson QUICK.
      1. If you move the sandbag from the lap to the shoulder in one breath, make sure to let out a bit of air making a 'tss' sound every time the sandbag moves into a new position.
      2. If you always 'push' the sandbag to the shoulder for that final bit, it can add to that a lot. I've had more success 'throwing' it up there rather than pushing it.
      3. Actual meal 1-2 hours before the workout no matter what.
      4. Something small like a fig bar or fruit directly before the workout.
      All of this stuff has gotten rid of that for me I hope it helps you too!

    • @justinkral7931
      @justinkral7931 16 дней назад +3

      @@thestonecircle thanks for the reply. Yeah thinking about it, with the heavier sandbags I’m pushing it up. I’ll try more throwing it up. Also I do lift a lot of times fasted, I’ll need to try eating before to see if that helps. I’ve trained with kettlebells for many years so I think I have the breathing part down. It has just been kind of scary thinking I might pass out lol. Keep up your channel, it’s all good stuff.

    I just started the video, but my bags underfilled because I bought one I wouldn't really be able to handle so I could add sand as I progress:) Also I have things set up so I adjust the weight by scooping sand to or from construction sand bags, it's been the most convenient way so far to have one bag and make it "adjustable"

    I've gotten a 225 to shoulder for reps, but both the 250 and 265 we have at the club are underfilled and floppy as hell. I can carry both, I can put both over a 54" bar, but can't quite get them to shoulder. Keep getting hung up at chest. I WILL conquer them at some point. Maybe I'll try knocking 10 lbs out of my 200 as you suggest.
