@@stadleroux the best way to alleviate the challenge of insufficient availability of interpreters is one common language. @@nalankosi, I know that's the policy in some other African countries, but even there practice doesn't always follow theory. There are many people in Namibia, for instance, who still don't understand a word of English. I believe we need a balance between all 11 languages and only English, but it's not an easy target to hit and it won't always be the same target. It could even be a moving target, because language usage is never static. Nationally I believe all 11 languages should be recognised and actively promoted, and they are in Parliament as a rule, but it's not practical or even necessary to have facilities for all 11 in all nine provinces, as not all of them are spoken in all nine provinces. With technology and the right kind of infrastructure the odd person speaking only a language "foreign" to one province could very easily be accommodated by remote linkage to another province where that language is commonly spoken. There's the fourth industrial revolution for you! ;-)
@@stadleroux I believe achieving balance between 11 languages can only happen if everyone speaks all 11 languages. However in situations like SA, 11 languages is a hopeful illusion that often leads to a few languages being dominant (Afrikaans & English) which means nothing has changed from the apartheid regime. In SA we need to agree on 1 business language and people can speak all other languages at home or with their friends.
@@nalankosi, hmmm, no, I was referring to a balance between the unrealistic ideal of all 11 languages being treated absolutely equal everywhere in the country and the expediency, for those who can speak it, and financial sense of only having English as an official language. Or is the obvious solution that we enlist several more interpreters at state expense?
@@ofentsejay while I agree with your underlying sentiment, I do hesitate to enforce policy which we should be forced to abandon after a few years of infeasibility.
There are far too many African languages in South Africa alone, perhaps if we were to summate the Nguni languages into one cohesive dialect we could, by sheer numbers, force an instantiation of the creation.
Facts -there are different people speaking different languages .What do you expect talk afrikaans or English when I may not know the both. Be fair guys
"Ngok'khulu ukuhlonipha.......njengomuntu ozihloniphelayo sdalwa"
sthandwa not sdalwa..sdalwa cant be parliamentary
Good point Mam'Khawula! How about 11 official languages? Does 11 official languages =English & Afrikaans? In SA we should just go English
There are interpreters for all 11 languages, but when there are as many meetings taking place simultaneously as in these past two weeks there aren't always enough of them to go around.
@@stadleroux the best way to alleviate the challenge of insufficient availability of interpreters is one common language. Because as citizens we demand immediate availability of all 11 languages in all 9 provinces. All official documents must immediately be available in all 11 languages in all 9 provinces. Official signs such as road and office signs in all 11 languages in all 9 provinces.
There are too many people who don't and never will speak English. I can't blame Ms Khawla for not being able to speak English, she probably never had enough exposure to it when growing up.
I do blame the politicians for not having the political will to budget for and promote the development of languages. Every year in the debate on the Arts & Culture budget they repeat the same old stories about how important the development of languages is and then nothing happens. Politicians have a lot to say about many things, but in general they don't get a lot done...
Mama Makhawula😍😍😍...
Hello dear,
How are you doing today and how's the weather over there
Honourable member, order, order, honourable member, order, order....is this for real?
Yes she wants her right to be translated in Isizulu.
The problem runs deep. Why is the Parliament channel only on DSTv?
All language must speak in parliament
there is nothing 'chaotic' lana hau they are enforcing their right to language as guaranteed in the Constitution.
Philile Mtetwa. It is childish, toddler mentality. They should be discussing important matters in Parliament like on how to get the country back to being civilized with functional services. Waste of tax payers money.
@Carmen Fox they were demanding that there should be an interpreter since they couldnt hear what the speaker was saying. so i do not see anything wrong with that
@@juliusmaehlich3138 I agree with you entirely. But they just wanted to hear what the speaker was saying so thst they can work as well
Omg fighting about language instead of concentrating on real life issues
Atleast 1 requirement.. A language.. But the county must be on hold because this person does not have 1 simple requirement.. Shame and this is who people want to run a county.. Damn
