Crash Nitro Kart is a racing game in which the player controls characters from the Crash Bandicoot universe, most of whom race in karts. While racing, the player can accelerate, steer, reverse, brake, hop or use weapons and power-ups with the game controller's analog stick and buttons. Four distinct types of crates are scattered throughout the tracks and arenas of Crash Nitro Kart. "Item Crates" are marked with a question mark (?) and usually come in sets of four. The player can obtain a weapon or power-up by driving through an Item Crate and breaking it apart. The player can only carry one weapon or power-up at a time. "Multiplier Crates" are marked with an "X" and are usually found in hard-to-reach spots on the tracks. These special crates contain three of a certain weapon or power-up. "Wumpa Crates" are unmarked and carry "Wumpa Fruit" that strengthens the player's weapons and power-ups if ten of them are obtained. "Activation Crates" are marked with an exclamation point (!) and don't give the player anything when they are driven through; instead, they activate either a trap that can slow down the other racers or a boost pad.
Boosting is an important part of Crash Nitro Kart's gameplay. When the player boosts, their kart will momentarily go slightly faster than its normal top speed. Boosts are achieved by driving over boost pads scattered across the tracks, pumping the gas at the starting line, and holding the gas button at the right time when being reset on the track. Another technique used for boosting is the "power slide". To execute a power slide, the player holds down one of the shoulder buttons to perform a hop and steer before the kart lands. While sliding, a curved "boost gauge" appears next to the player's kart. When the gauge goes from green to red, the player presses the opposite shoulder button to obtain a boost. The higher the boost gauge goes, the more powerful the boost will be.

2. Hearing about PS2's coming
3. Begging parents to get PS2 for christmas
4. Getting PS2 for christmas and this game.
5. Booting this game and hearing its powerful theme

With all the hate this game gets, it still has such a good feel to look back on childhood memories! This was 10/10 my favourite game when I was a 6 or 7 years old and now I am now 15 and still gaming! Going from crash turbo as my favourite to destiny in 2015 is amazing!! All in all real loved this game and fancy buying a ps2 to go see back on my memories!
im now 15, and my the best game in childhood was crash team racing on playstation 1. God i love that game so much! And playing it with my father and uncles on battle, makes it even better!

Jac - R6S i don't understand why people prefer CTR more than CNK (this game) because it was my second favorite Crash game after Twinsanity
@@ozealousstreamer899 CTR was a little more challenging due to all the cars being much faster and the race tracks had narrower roads making racing more competitive. The other racers would actually throw shit at you and you would have to dodge. Whereas CNK they would barely throw anything at you making the race less challenging. And if they did the roads were so wide you could easily dodge it.
This was my PS2 game and I remember like if it was yesterday how amazed I was by the graphics.
kynigh by the time it looked good, but today it look very plastic and N64 alike. Many Dreamcast games easily surpass this game.

I plan on purchasing the Crash Action Pack for the PlayStation 2 with all North American NTSC versions of its games to obtain this cool kart racing video game sometime. Nice gameplay video!
I got that too it got this game, twinsanity and tag team racing. Ir worth the price, 20 dollars goos choice. Still got it need to play it again.

like mentioned above, you don't need the drifting to beat the regular race cpu's. What you DO need them for are to beat n tropy's time records to unlock him.

This game did the anti-gravity before Mario Kart did. True, it isn't full-on racing on the ceiling, but the wheels still go sideways!

Also, for those who are still saying _Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed_ ripped off _Mario Kart 7_ or vice-verse, I have yet to encounter the submarine transformation in the former and the aircraft in the former are self-propelled and don't go plummeting when you get hit by something. Speaking of which, I really wish Nintendo would fix the losing-more-coins-because-you-fell-off-the-stage-before-recovering-from-being-hit-by-another-item BS.

It's everything. The graphics, the physics, the characters, the power-ups, the scenario design, the circuits, the multi-player, even the fuking story,..., everything, absolutely EVERYTHING. And I had both games, and I appreciate both games; I was blown away to see not even ps2 games nor ps3 games, were better than Nintendo games from the 90's...
I bought this game today, I used to play it on ps2. I appreciate that they have the option to use the old graphics looking carts! Ahhh the nostalgia! ❤️

Funny fact: Got weapon crate. When the weapon crate randomly switches weapons pause the game on right timing and you see voodoo doll. :D
I never realized how this was similar to Mario kart, but I think it's WAAAY better.
I remembered this game so fondly and especially that intro which always gotta riled up.
Fast forward to now and I regularly play CTR:NF and boy as much as I hate to admit it CNK feels slower than a snail in comparison.

Back in 2010 when i was 3 or 4 years old I had this on ps2 slim, and the disc of this I had barely worked and froze a lot. I have so many memories of playing this game with my dad, mom, and both of my sisters. Now I'm 13 and I regret saying I wanted a brand new ps4 in 2016. (I still have the ps4 and it's 3 years old now and doesn't work anymore.
