I can't belive Emily Rohm learned how to fly just for this musical, she's so dedicated to her work.
since you only saw this clip out of context, fun fact is that jane doe’s head is her dolls head 😭she carries around this little headless doll at the start of the show
Dude this comment actually blew my mind! It makes complete sense because in all the flashback videos we see that Jane’s hair is long, brown, and straight however, when she’s revealed she has short curly blonde hair! So it’s like her neck gave Jane her dolls head because she didn’t have one 🤯🤯🤯
@@Rileyann130 Did di did uhhh did you actually not put that together?
@@Shooting..St4r okay Please be respectful, some people are just slower to understand thing 👌
@@Rileyann130 those aren't flashbacks I believe, they're her future life, She most likely got reborn into a new body. we don't know what Jane use to look like
@lethe_beloved they mean the beginning i believe where she's covering her face her hair is brown
For some context on the show, you basically got the plot correct, but there is a fortune telling machine called Karnak who is giving the dead teenagers a chance for one of them to come back to life, and they all sing about why they should be chosen.
its like cats but the opposite
@@15two thats what I thought!!!!
It reminds of six where each queen sings their time with Henry lol
@@15twothats what my parents said lol!
That’s the character I play in my theatre’s production of RTC :)
The actress who played Jane Doe actually revealed on TikTok that it’s not a wire system that they’re using to make her fly it’s actually an axle and leverage system. Basically a rod is attached to a harness underneath her costume and people back stage are pulling her up and down and spinning her around with it! Ugh it’s so good!! ❤❤❤
This is awesome info! Thank you for sharing. Also makes sense why she never turns her back to the audience during this scene and the one after.
Yes! You can see this in some BTS footage!!
Omg I didn't know that!! Thats even more impressive.
And when she first walks on stage? Her one foot's pointed the "wrong" way, because the performer has a birth defect that allows her to rotate her foot 180º
She gets hooked to it during the umbrella thing right?
Every number from Ride the Cyclone is Oops: All Bangers. While The Ballad of Jane Doe is absolutely the show stealer, there isn't a BAD song. I'd also highly recommend Noel's Lament and the number that came just before this, Space Age Bachelor Man. The audience in the proshot is *tragically* lackluster, this show absolutely deserves a cult following and a Broadway run. Edited to Include: The official cast album is also well worth a listen for Karnak's snarky fourthwalling!
My second favorite song is Noels Lament. I love it!
I believe in space age bachelor man supremacy
Y'all pls stop dragging the audience this is a pro-shot not a bootleg, it's a small audience and they use a noise dampener so the audience doesn't cover the acting/music
I dunno, I think "I Love You Guys" might be a weak link, songwise. :P
@@juliacalhoun9491 "I Love You Guys" was a masterpiece! The lyrics, the choreography, the ending... It portrays so well Ocean desperately trying to claim there's a connection between her and the other choir members so that she's beloved by them even though it's clearly forced!! Definitely my top 1!
A fun fact that I learned from the Jane Doe Actor! When she does the descending notes originally those notes were only meant for the piano, but when she sang the notes along side the piano the directors and author liked it so much that they kept it!
There is a few group numbers! But yes, it is SUPER wild, the emotions are a rollercoaster all on their own! There is gay representation, tons of different styles of music, it's so funny and yet so emotional, the ending is great, watch the entire thing please!!! We need ride the cyclone reactions!!!
I just love the ROLLERCOASTER of emotions throughout the entire musical ❤
Emily Rohm is the actress playing Jane in that and she has some incredible vocal control. Like, all that flipping, and even upside down, and she doesn't waver, even once. I'm completely obsessed with this musical and I hope you do more reactions to it. It's phenomenal!
And she still does opera performances now! She just performed in "The Magic Flute" as the queen of the night
This is one of those shows were every song has a very different vibe and you wouldn't expect really any of them except the opening and finale to be from the same show. Every character is wildly different and gets a solo song but there's a couple groups (such as the opening and finale, and a few short ones in between, but every solo is supported by the whole group so everyone is always involved).
For some reason the audience of this particular taping of the show wasn't very active throughout. But the show is absolutely comedic so don't feel bad about laughing. It's a wild ride.
A wild ride huh? Like the roller coaster that killed them all
@@fiery1223 As they say in the final song, it’s just a ride
Some notes about the character which I think are neat, at the start she's flipping a lever to play her memories but none appear. She carries around a headless doll with her and I can't remember if its stated but it's heavily implied that she's using the dolls head in this limbo as her's didn't come with her, probably explaining her odd baby bird/animated doll mannerisms, part of her was lost not just her memories. Then the high notes are implied to be her screaming and the "melody through the air" as she falls that's cut short
also, when she says “and from the ground beneath my feet, i hear the anguish of the streets” i believe that’s a reference to her head on the ground, hearing everything until she can’t anymore (seeing how they say hearing is the last sense to leave after you die)
Hers* No apostrophe in possessive pronouns.
The musical "Ride the Cyclone" is a dark humor musical. It's a very adult oriented musical as there is a lot of vulgarity but it's an incredible musical going through the stages of grief. It's not Broadway, as it started in Toronto, but it is travelling in the States.
Everyone who loves the things Starkid makes, you will love Ride the Cyclone!
It's very reminiscent of their more serious pieces, where there's silly bits but it's overall taken very seriously!
YES! Ride the cyclone is currently living rent free in my mind. I'm glad it's getting a bit of a resurgence!
it's kinda helping me cope with my crippling fear of death
Ride The Cyclone is an amazing show! It was off broadway for a little while I think, but they’ve toured it all over Canada and the US. It’s gaining a lot more traction now because they recently released an official cast recording. The entire show is on youtube and I love it so much.
You’d be lucky to find a recording of the full thing. Almost every video I was led to got removed.
@@maxwolf6497theres a slime tutorial still up rn
I believe the flight for Jane Doe is actually done using a lever - since a wire system would have to be very complex to pull off all of the aerial maneuvers she does, and a lever could achieve the same effect in a much more simple manner.
My kid just introduced me to this show and every single song is just as instantly gripping. This is my first time *seeing* any of it, and now I’m DESPERATE to see it on stage, instead of merely eager. I think this is a hint of what musical theatre could become, how much there still is to be explored and created. I’m incredibly glad to be around to see what happens next. 🥰
I saw the initial Chicago production (my friend Karl played Karnak, the fortune telling machine) and have loved this show ever since. Jane flying through space came after that, as she originally just walked up past the audience via a central staircase we used to get seated.
Also, you NEED to listen to "Sugar Cloud" from this show.
i would love to know more about how karnaks pupeteering works if you know more information! it's wonderful! :)
@@sophiemazal Not a puppet. Karl's wearing a costume. He can actually see out of the eyebrows, as the eyes were lights. He's holding onto wooden hands, but the physicality and movement is all Karl.
@@pcwkid76 nice! i always looked at the curtain call and assumed its a puppet but thats amazing!
You won't die if you don't hear a song, so no, he doesn't "need" to listen to it.
I ADORE THE SOUNDTRACK IT’S AMAZING. You can follow the story whilst the fortune teller breaks the forth wall like “this song won’t make sense unless you see the show so…your loss” I hope it doesn’t go to broadway honestly just cause it works so well in small intimate houses with little props and prosthetic
just to add, Jane's flying was not done by wires, but a gigantic counterweight system behind the curtain. when she backs up into the curtain a stage hand connects her hidden harness to the (basically) forklift.
ride the cyclone is FANTASTIC the songs are so catchy
There are indeed not many big group numbers, BUT it is in fact as wild as you assume it is. None of the individual songs fall in the same genre, and the general humour of the show is on point (at least for me, it really is my kind of humour). Honestly the best way to figure it out is just to watch it. Have fun!
you reacted to this the exact same way i did tbh! i stumbled upon this performance totally randomly, was absolutely stunned into silence by her ability to sing those notes whilst SPINNING UPSIDE DOWN, then immediately watched the entire musical (via slime tutorial). it's now in my top 3 musicals ever. i 500% recommend all of the other songs - each character pretty much has their own little genre
Ride the Cyclone is pretty much exactly as you guessed it is and it is absolutely as wild and whiplashy with its music genres, tone, and events as a musical about a rollercoaster disaster should be!
You got the main plot down to a tee! The only things your missing(but wasn’t really said on the song in the slightest) is the fact that, by unanimous vote from the choir, 1 member may be brought back to life. The only piece that you really only got wrong was that each song is the, singing about what they wished they were if they continued living(for the most part, some people didn’t)
I absolutely love this musical and it makes me so happy. Some of my favourite songs from it are Fall Fair Suite, What The World Needs, Noel’s Lament, Ballad Of Jane Doe and It’s Not A Game/It’s Just A Ride
I’m so glad you reacted to this! I discovered this show a couple of weeks ago and it’s already become one of my favourite, I’ve watched the bootleg like 6 times already
Theirs a BOOTLEG SHOW NEE PLEASE
@@pdtrx4900 it was up on youtube a while ago but i think it got taken down
@@pdtrx4900 look for the "roller coaster safety psa" when you search for a "ride the cyclone slime tutorial"
@@pdtrx4900 everytime it gets taken down someone reuploads it so there should be one out now
@@krakitty123 there's also a Google drive link!
I saw someone mention that her shadows on the curtain before and after the "flying" segment look like wings, and I can't unsee it now and it's beautiful.
Thank you so much for reacting to this, this is my favorite song from the show! I would also suggest you react to 'What The World Needs' because Tiffany Tatreau hits some crazy notes!
At the start there's a group number and there's one at the end and yes it is as crazy as you think it is but it's still an amazing and underated musical
Love that you’ve been introduced to this show. It is brilliant. There is another number “what the world needs” is something you should react to there’s a pro shot version on RUclips. The song is a fully different vibe from Ballad of Jane Doe.
Try and watch the show if you can. But the full thing hasn’t been released properly.
*listen!!!! i saw a comment under the bootleg i watched that theorized that jane flying around and hitting all of those incredible high notes is meant to symbolize her falling off the roller coaster and screaming! hope that clears some things up!*
I'm so glad that you reacted to this! I hope you listen to some of the other songs as well. If you want any suggestions, i suggest "What the World Needs" and "Fall Fair Suite". The entire musical is worth watching, though. Thanks again for this video.
Thank you for covering this, this show has actually been around for a long time in different forms, it’s originally a Canadian production from Atomic Vaudeville before it came State side. It’s a delightful macabre story with very distinct songs and eccentric but infinitely lovable and nuanced characters for its short run time. I’d highly recommend Noel’s Lament, as well as Sugarbowl for future discussions as they are wildly different but both sung excellently, but this is definitely the shows lynchpin moment. Have fun with Ride the Cyclone, and give Karnak a talk before your next ride!😉👍🏾
Hello! Just wanted to mention:
You said that the run gave you chills!! On the upward notes it represents the climb of the rollercoaster and the drop in notes represents the fall and crash
I did not know about this musical until I saw your reaction to this song and now I am completely obsessed. You need to react to this musical one day. Please put it on the next pole.
The hyperventilating you did upon seeing her flying around and singing while upside down seemed like an appropriate reaction! XD
I’m such a huge fan of this musical, and it’s wild to watch people react to this cold. Pure chaos.
Omg loved your reaction to this song! Emily Rohm is absolutely amazing, you're right.
Would love to see you reacting to more of this show, I feel like its something you would really enjoy. If you're interested, you can find the proshot bootleg on youtube
“Is this show really as wild as I’m assuming that it is?” Oh honey, you have NO idea
You should react to Noel's lament or what the world needs
Y’all ride the cyclone is getting more and more popular and I’m so excited
oh im so glad to see someone reacting to this on yt!! i have a feeling this show would be right up your alley.
Yes finally someone reacts to this masterpiece
Ride the Cyclone is such an amazing show. Highly recommend you check out the rest of the show. Noel's Lament and It's Not a Game/It's Just A Ride are both amazing numbers
Unrelated but 1:08 , Ricky really does look like Dennis omg I laughed so hard at that comment for like 5 minutes straight 😭
There are group numbers!! The finale number is SO SO good. The plot is all the kids competing to come back to life, absolutely watch it!!!
yes more rtc!! Talia, Noel's Lament, or What The World Needs would be great next numbers, or watching the full show
Talia 😍😍😍
I have been looking for a reaction to this for the LONGEST TIME
It's not a game, but one wild ride
When she spins in the air, I think it represented the cyclone’s track
Please please react to Noel's Lament and Talia from Ride the Cyclone. This show is dark, beautiful, weird, hilarious. The lighting design is absolutely stunning, the performers are astounding. From what we can see from the videos that exist, the set design is very minimal, but the lighting so so FREAKING GOOD. I cannot wait for you to witness more of this show
I’m in this musical at my theatre as Karnak. It is so much fun
This was such a positive reaction and I am glad I found this video. Knowing what you were getting into, I was delightfully intrigued by your reactions. Well done and thanks for this!!
This is the most mesmerizing thing I’ve ever seen in any stage show.
And no, RtC wasn’t on Broadway, but it did have an off-Broadway run.
It's a great show. One of the few shows I saw multiple times during the same run. Saw it a total of 3 times when they were in Seattle. Definitely worth going to.
YES YES YES!! I've been waiting for more reactions for this show. You really should watch the whole thing!!
PLEASE WATCH MORE! I LOVE RTC
I sang along the whole song and hit the notes I'm concerned WOW!!!!!
he should check out "the lightning thief musical"
Omg i would love to see your reaction for the rest of the musical
I discovered it early october and the full show was on here but it was taken down about 2 weeks ago. I was sold just like you - in the first few notes.
As per group numbers - its very SIX.... each has a solo song with the rest as back ups. But there are a few full group numbers including the finale which is great.
This is the exact same way I fell down the rabbit hole about two months ago. RUclips randomly recommended that video to me and I was like oh a musical I've never heard of with spooky doll vibes? It's almost Halloween let's check it out! Oh my god what what what is this beautiful singing and immaculate staging and these raw ass lyrics?? It's been consuming my mind.
I NEVER THOUGHT YOU WERE REACTING TO THIS! AHHHH!
One other comment as someone who just stumbled into the musical through this number and who watched the full show recording that the clip you saw is from a few days ago: the audience is absolutely DEAD in that recording. Plenty of lines, songs, etc that would have evoked a response got next to nothing. Enough to know the audio would be able to pick it up if there was clapping, laughter etc - they just weren't reactive.
The show toes the line between absurd and heartfelt very well, IMO. By the time we get to the Ballad of Jane Doe, we've already established that line pretty well, so the "should I laugh or cry" tone isn't out of left field.
I'm not sure if this is a theater show "type", but the show is structured like CATS in the sense that it's a bunch of individual "this is my character!" songs with a narration vaguely stringing them together, the overarcing plot being "one person gets to go to the Heaviside Layer"/"one person gets to be resurrected". Of course, it's a bunch of dead teenagers, not a bunch of living cats, but you get the idea?
The only problem is that I can't entirely decide who the Grisabella stand-in would be in RTC. In one sense, it would definitely be Jane Doe, and I think it could be argued that her song is one turning point in the show? But Jane Doe is only the second-to-last character, and I'd actually argue that the last character to sing, another girl, has the emotional catharsis of the show and ties a lot of the themes together/moves the plot to its conclusion. I saw a theory that suggested the five different kids are the five different stages of grief, and if that theory is even close to the mark, it makes sense why the last girl is the last.
But oh well, I'm rambling. This musical is fascinating and I've been enjoying the content on it. Glad to see you found it!
Hey! I love this reaction and I know you uploaded this a while ago, but you said something about wiring when she was flying. She was actualy in a costume that had a bone structure so it wouldnt fall at times like when she is upside down, and you can see her shake while she is getting attached to a large crane that drags her around the set. Very cool effects.
You need to watch the rest of the songs from this show, but especially Space age Bachlor man! The choreo’s really good :)
You should absolutely react to more songs from ride the cyclone! Yes it is as wild as you thought (possibly more so) and the songs are all so different but so good it's a wild ride
this is my top musical at the moment! you absolutely need to react to Noel's Lament (my joint favourite song with this one) - equally good but quite a different vibe
What the World Needs is a great song too
I watched a behind-the-scenes clip of how they did the floating and I believe they use a large mechanism with a pole attached to the actor's back and then moved manually behind the curtain. This is why she backs up to the curtain and stands mostly still right before "take off" so that she can be strapped in properly. They may also have wires for added safety but don't quote me on that.
Considering you didn't hear the entirety of the Karnak story or about Virgil(the rat) you really should watch the semi pro-shot this video was taken from. It's a very funny, very life-affirming musical, in its way.
loved this reaction!
I love that she moves like a doll
This clip you saw was a filmed DRESS REHERSAL of the show, hence why the applause/audience reaction was low.
You should react to another ride the cyclone song one of my personal favourites is fall fair suite
they are actually not wires. when she flew and sometimes in her shadow u can see a bar and she posted a behind the scenes on her tiktok its basically like a lose rotating gear attached to a bar and a guy controls it. it is hoisted on her back with a harness so she can turn and stuff and when she is turning to go upside down its really smooth
Someone please please please lmk where to find the full vision of this show
ruclips.net/video/79pMf8hSfA0/видео.html is a bootleg of it lol, idk if its very good quality cause i haven't actually watched this version though

Does anyone have any audio for Mischa's other show?
You should react to Noel's lament or what the world needs from ride the cyclone but I also suggest watching the whole show if you can find a good bootleg, the ones I saw have been removed
Actually there is a secret to it and it’s not wire. It’s actually a seesaw from the back.
Oh you gotta react to Fall Fair Suite. You’d love it.
Not so fun and actually really sad fact: the high notes are actually implied to be janes screams as she died on the rollercoaster
Ride the cyclone is SO WEIRD and SO GOOD
