    I am working on some very noisy radio broadcast of our old band from the 1970s. I’m using both RX and Spectralayers... I am finding denoise is best with RX, then after that, unmixing the vocal stem with Spectralayers is the best workflow. Why am I taking out the vocal? Well to try some melodyne magic so our singer, now an oldie like me, can enjoy his efforts as he always thought his contribution was not quite right. Great fun. Thanks for the video, it puts things in perspective that some bits are best done with different manufacturers...

      @whitenoisestudio  3 года назад +3

      Hey Jonathan, great to hear! You're dropping some thruthbombs here.
      Yeah it really differs from manufacturer to manufacturer and when you have acces to more tools then one, just picks what works best.

  • @DJBBBOSS
    @DJBBBOSS 3 года назад +10

    Cubase Pro 11 now includes Spectralayers One ( Much the same as Elements ) So if you upgrade to 11 you also get this basic version that can separate vocals and works very well with many tacks I've tried..... Thanks for your review. Think I might buy Spectralayers Pro 7 as I like the extra tools and ability to separate drum tacks as well as other sounds

    • @whitenoisestudio
      @whitenoisestudio  3 года назад +3

      Yeah Spectralayers One has some functions less then Elements, but the vocal separating is exactly the same. The pro version has the denoising options and better and more tools for a faster workflow. And of course you can do more separating with pro, drums, piano, transients and noise. So for me the Pro version is excellent in mastering etc. But the One version is a really good starting point. I haven’t seen an upgrade from One to Pro on the Steinberg Site, usually that will be available too. Saves a few bucks.

    • @DJBBBOSS
      @DJBBBOSS 3 года назад +1

      @@whitenoisestudio The denoising option is something I would find very useful as well as the ability to separate drums & other sounds. As the Spectralayers One is included in Cubase Pro I don't think they would offer an upgrade option but they may add extra options in Cubase pro 11.5 in a years time. They might have an offer price for Black Friday or when they have a sale but I'm not sure I will be able to wait that long lol..... I will get the full version by the weekend I'm sure ..... I think, i go with Spectral Layers Pro. Rx7 dont feel mature and not good enough and Demix Pro is an only online solution, which makes no sense for me, if I am somewhere else with my Laptop or have no Internetconnection at s specific moment. So, why only online processing demix offer is strange.

      Demix Pro is handy when you have limited cpu usage and have to do some bulk without taxing your own cpu.
      It also has had some upgrades since this video, I have to revisit that software to check on the current state of affairs ;-)
      RX8 is now upgraded to RX8 which does it's job considerably better and I totally agree on spectralayers 7 , it's my fav.

This person should first buy a faster cpu (which is not expensive) or do resource-managment and dont run multiple programs, where RAM can be more the bottle-neck, instad CPU. • @whitenoisestudio
      @whitenoisestudio  4 года назад +2

      He Erwin! Just some smart analytics of the programs. If you look closer at these 3 you'll notice they target the same things.
      Bass, vocal, drums and a form of "the rest" because these can be analyzed the best. With vocal they detect the root note of a voice with it's harmonics and higher frequency stuff like sibilants (t's and esses) and extract only those frequencies at the right spot. Sometimes it's hard for an algorithm to hear the right parts, so that's why for instance the attack of the bass get's removed at times.

      @@erwinvanoostenbrugge Nah, the important musical content happens in the low and mid of the frequency spectrum.
      Higher samplerates dont change that.
      I dont understand that quote. It's bot the most difficult thing to create, the excecution is a different story.
      You take for instance a transient which you can detect, look if there's a big low end happening at the same time, you offset a few models / general set of rules against it, look if it matches and extract. - Bassdrum extracted. This is very simplified but not undoable at all.
