  • Aithre Aviation has been cranking out a wide variety of products sharply focused on cockpit health monitoring and it came to AirVenture 2023 with a new Bluetooth multi-function sensor that attaches to the headset for full-time biometric monitoring. Aviation Consumer Editor Larry Anglisano took a look at the Illyrian II with Aithre's Dr James Runnels.

was very skeptical but after seeing all of the features here this is pretty great. Would be cool to see it built into headsets in future.

Very nice to see companies like this continuing to innovate.

I like the idea, but I think it’s cumbersome which will make it less appealing for people to use. Selling the tech to Bose where they can incorporate that seamlessly into the ear cup would be your winning ticket. Or create your own ear cup that will fit the Bose

Or make your own headset and put bose on their back foot. Although their headsets probably account for 0.2% of their business...if it was a money maker, sony would have gotten in the business and blown them out of the water a decade ago...

having that breaking my headphone seal would drive me crazy.

How accurate is SpO2 that doesn't transfuse directly across the skin?

Any other way to attach the sensor besides sliding it between the headset and pilot’s head?

If it interrupts the headset seal it'll cause a loud thrumming in the headset. I wear a pulse/ox ring that constantly monitors my O2 sat and has an adjustable haptic alert if your O2 level goes below your set spot.

@@johnfriend862 I was more interested in the accelerometer detecting non movement/sleep to be honest.

Yuck, enough noise sneaks in between my (thin) glasses and Bose A20 already. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Curious, have you ever thought of contacts (I assume you're referring to prescription lens glasses)?

I sure hope this stuff is patented, so that they can keep manufacturers from integrating this into their headsets...Lightspeed just put a CO monitor in their latest model...that alone would put them at the top of the heap for me when considering my next headset...

Waste of $$$. Looks totally uncomfortable. Just get a finger pulse ox. It’s fine.
