    I wish I had found these videos when I took the FE my first time. My second time is tomorrow, and I feel even less prepared than before. However your videos are really helpful, so here's to hoping I won't have to take it a third time!

    Why isn’t fluid energy equations in the FE reference handbook ? In regards to converting frictional head loss to specific energy

    • @Genieprep
      @Genieprep  2 года назад

      Hi Phil, that's a great question and I am not really sure why they're not providing the energy equation on the reference handbook, but just make sure you add it to your cheat sheet and remember it for your FE. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      Here is a video, where bernoulli is expressed in head, ruclips.net/video/yNcCaSc7qvo/видео.html. However, I don't have videos on energy per unit mass and energy per unit volume, yet! Thank you for watching!

    why kinetic head at that point (2) is considered if it is already incorporated in total head loss as minor head loss at exit?

  • @marcelograndi5615

    I am confused when you use the continuity eq. Q=V1 x A1=V2 x A2 because based on the previous equation V1=0, so Q should be 0 if we assume V1=0. Or not?
    Thanks!

    • @joseantoniovargasbazan5058
      @joseantoniovargasbazan5058 3 года назад +1

      Actually V1 is not zero, stricto sensu. (V1/V2) is close enough to 0. So, if you had the diameter of the reservoir, you could even compute V1, and then put this value into the Bernoulli Eq. It happens that this value squared (V1²/2g) of order of magnitude, say, 1e-8 or so, is gonna end up being neglectable in the equation.

    How you choose the Datum? What if I choose the Datim at point 1? I would have a different sign, and I would get a wrong result.

    • @Genieprep
      @Genieprep  5 лет назад +1

      It doesn't matter how you choose your datum. If you use the datum at point 1, Z1 will be zero and Z2 will be -42, if you rearrange the equation, you should get the same answer as shown in the video. I hope this make sense and good luck.

      Hello Mostafizur, I hope studying is going well! I just want to let you know that I am still doing the "Problem a day series" on Patreon, www.patreon.com/enGENIEer. You can also ask me what kind of questions you would like to see next on patreon. There are already two questions that I have posted so far exclusively for my patreon supporters and a video on topics you should focus on for Geotechnical engineering. I hope you enjoy it, thank you 😊 and good luck!

    Pressure 1 is not zero, it's atmospheric. The gauge pressure at 1 is zero, and Bernoulli's eqn is based on guage pressures

    P=0 because it's exposed at the atmospheric pressure.

    • @Genieprep
      @Genieprep  5 лет назад +2

      Hello Yoona, correct! So in these problems, we usually calculate for the gage pressure. The absolute pressure P = Pg (gage pressure) + Patm. If you substitute the absolute pressure equation for P1 and P2 (at the open surfaces), the Patm cancels and that is why Patm is usually considered zero! I hope this helps, thank you for watching and good luck with your studying!
