Yeah think the same. One of my favourite character of Band of brothers.
Honestly, just like how Lipton was the glue that held Easy together, being its first sergeant for most of the war, being the bridge between the various COs and the men, Wahlberg was the glue that held the show together. He's in A LOT Of scenes, and while he might not have had as prominent a role as say Lewis' Winters, he's in just about ALL the episodes and most scenes, in some small way. Lipton would always be hanging in the background asking if anyone needs help or giving peptalks or trying to comfort someone, and through all the scenes, however small, you can see Wahlberg acting his heart out with every little nod or smile or glance.
Honestly he's mesmerizing in anything, but just a look from Lipton in BofB says a thousand words. That's amazing acting
I got to meet Lipton. He retired to Southern Pines, NC, and sometimes went down to the local Howard Johnsons where the local coffee drinkers gathered. My dad was one of those coffee drinkers. Dad introduced me to Lipton when I joined them, once. I remember him as a soft-spoken, dignified gentleman. Daddy was a veteran from the S. Pacific, and he'd been so delighted to meet another WWII veteran. I didn't appreciate who Lipton was, or what either of them had gone through until I saw Band of Brothers. Dad died in '91 and I never got to share this movie with him. He'd have absolutely loved it.

That's a lovely story and no matter that your father didn't get to see it, you did and you carry him in your heart.
You are so lucky. I know what you mean. My grandfather and I were very close. He was in the S. Pacific in WWII like your dad. He would never talk about it. I asked him few times and he just said he didn’t like talking about it. After he had passed away I found out where he actually was and couldn’t believe what those men went through. God bleed our Vets, God bless your dad. Thanks for sharing.
Did you watch The Pacific? If you haven't, you HAVE to. It's seriously ALMOST as good as BoB
he had such a natural gentleness and modesty about him, he really nailed the character, i dont think anyone couldve done better.
I LOVE the scene inside the church with the choir singing, OH MAN, they sing it so beautifully and the dialog with Spiers talking about how Lip is the leader of Easy after Winters promotion is just so emotional for me!
Yup, that's my favourite scene in the entire series. I especially love how Lipton is so humble of a person that he honestly doesn't realize the great leader Spiers is talking about is him. I felt that one moment summed up with character more than anything.
That scene gets me every time. And that's a lot of times at this point.
This was my favourite interview with a cast member. While he mightn't have looked like Carwood Lipton, I got the feeling that he absolutely behaved and carried himself like the man himself...great acting.
The part where Luz hands Lipton a cigarette after the dud shell lands, is cinema gold!

What a fantastic series, this podcast is. The love of the host for the series, the love and respect of every actor for the people they represented. This episode is so hard to watch as you see your friends in the crucible of relentless fire and then there is Donnie Wahlberg as Lipton, with his eyes paying attention being empathetic, a true leader, as Winters and Spears were. I cannot explain why I find myself watching this series 3 times a year, can never get enough, it never gets old. we get old but not this. Bravo.
I never met Carwood Lipton, so I can't say how close to him Donnies portrayal was. I can say I completely enjoyed what he did on the screen. I don't think I can complain about any of the cast really, it was just a superb ensemble and a great job by all. I've lost track of how many times I've watched it. I own the box set so I watch it at least once a year, then if it happens to be on tv, I'll watch that too.
I know what you mean.. I've watched the series more than I can remember.. also The Pacific is a good WW2 series about the Marines fighting the Japanese..same producer and director I think.but Dale Dye did the technical work.
@@johnjeffries1340 What I loved about The Pacific was that it wasn't just BoB in the Pacific, it felt like a unique creation and I really hope they can pull the same trick with the upcoming Masters of the Air.

I, too, was amazed by his performance. After Winters, he was my favorite character.
If Carwood Lipton was cool with Donnie Wahlberg, that's a compliment indeed.
I have loved Donnie since my teenage years but his acting career has added a whole new level to him. This role is the perfect role for him. He did such a beautiful job of bringing Carwood Lipton to life for the viewer and this is the one episode that always makes me cry. His scenes at the end where he is going down the roster of men and when Spiers tells him that he was the leader that got the men through that month in Bastogne and the attack on Foy. His humbleness is just so touching. Such a great episode!! Donnie was just amazing!
There are three scenes in BoB that always brings tears to my eyes every single time. The first is the scene with Spiers and Lipton in the church. The second is episode 10 when the German officer is addressing his men before Winters and Nixon while Liebgott translates, and the last is the final clip of the entire series when the real Winters gives that "I served in a Company of Heroes" line. That last one gets me misty eyed just thinking about it.
We need a Pacific podcast after this one... please 😁
These truly remarkable podcast are so filled with meaning, truth and beauty that they gather power the more you listen to them just as the series does to more you watch it. Honestly, don't think there has ever been anything more beautiful and powerful made. I did not see the series when it first aired, but I bought the boxed set in Ontario, Canada in November of 2002 when I was on the set of a movie I wrote called Fallen Angel, that starred Gary Sinise and Joely Richardson. At night, alone in my hotel room I watched and was utterly swept away. When I returned home i began watching them with my young son. In time we knew every line of every episode by heart. And whenever something major happens in his life, like having his first baby, he'll say to me, "Day of Days, Dad."

Another brilliant episode with a very humble Donny Lipton or is it Carwood Wahlberg! The boundary between fact and fiction is nicely blurred. The fact that the cast did such a good job means that even if they might not be good soldiers they are great actors.....Currahee!!!
Donnie Wakberg did a really good job. Even in the french version, the first thing on my mind seeing him as Carwood Lipton, was stoicism, humilty, a man of duty and responsability. It still on of favourite serie and character.
Donnie is a very solid actor. Really enjoy his work.

These just keep getting better and better. I was so happy with the Shane Taylor Eugene Roe one but now Lipton? This is awesome. Lipton and Roe were my absolute favorites besides Winters of course. Donnie was amazing and did an excellent job.

The NCO's are responsible for training and readiness of the men, the officers are responsible for tactical leadership... hence the intentional difference between leadership styles and presentation on screen... but BoB perfectly gets this difference. Awesome performance from Donnie!
He stood out in that movie as one of my favorite in terms of performance.. I still marvel at Donnies performance every time I watch this serious.
Forgive me, as this might be a little petty of me, but Being from Ky and having family from Huntington WV, where Lipton is from, The Real Carl Lipton had a very well defined WV accent, and I really wish Donnie he had mastered that WV accent. I can’t do a Boston accent, so I can only imagine that being from Boston, doing a WV accent is probably just as challenging. Anyway… he was one of the top three actors in that series.
Ha,. if he would have spoken in a real Appalachian accent, practically no one would have been able to understand him. I served with the 2nd BN, 19th SFGA, (WV Army National Guard) where most of the unit was from WV and Eastern KY. When we were packing up to go home from Afghanistan, a Military Police detachment from the Reserves, did our Customs inspection. After listening to us talk amongst arselves for most of the morning, one of the MP's asked "Don't take this the wrong way, but where the hell are you guys from? " Which took a lot of nerve, since the MP unit was a bunch of Southies from Boston.

A really First Class Commentary by Donnie, really well Produced by HBO Max. A Brilliant Insight to so many Factors. My Personal view with the Luger? I know Malarky was Devastated but the Weapon had been responsible for Hoob's Horrible Death? not sure I could have done what CL did? I might have Blagged that one and offered it further down the line. When Malarky gave the Luger to his Brother He's having to Blag it? It shifted the responsibility, just my thought. But ten out of ten to all who produced this, Brilliant Series and Superbly Portrayed.
Rick Schroeder was FANTASTIC in the WWI flick "The Lost Battalion." I'm surprised he wasn't cast in BOB in some capacity.

During the war Carwood Lipton was always Hanging Tough because he had The Right Stuff.
I loved the scene where Lipton tells of how the replacements worry about dying but the experienced vets, while knowing the next patrol could be their last, do not worry about it.
God, I love this series of podcasts, Donnie was brilliant I had no idea he was in New Kids 😂 amazing!
I tell you what…I’m not a big fan of New Kids on the Block (although my wife was like the president of her Queens, NY fan club chapter). I’m not a big fan of Mr Wahlberg’s public persona.
BUT….
That man was absolutely spectacular in Band of Brothers! (Also, even though a small role, he was amazing in Sixth Sense. Actually made me seek out the credits to see who played the role. Blew my mind!). Total new-found respect for him.
Donnie! The best NKOTB (there's a flashback for ya), and the perfect actor for Lip!
