I’m just now watching this VERY informative video and I just want to say you have such a lovely way of explaining things ❤. You are such a wonderful gardening teacher. Thank you so much for sharing.
This was helpful. I planted rose shrubs last year and this is the first time i’ve pruned after blooming (NE Ohio). Hearing “you dictate how it grows” is exactly what i needed to hear! I also find the plant tells you when it needs maintenance.
I have been watching your videos on rose care. I so envy your beautiful David Austin roses. Every year my poor roses suffer from black spot. I remove the spotted foliage to the point that I fear the roses will not survive, but year after year they return. I clean up the fallen, diseased leaves but still the problem returns every year. Now that I've retired I will try harder to help my roses (I only have 2 David Austin roses, as well as 1 hybrid tea and quite a few shrub roses) to be healthier. Your videos give me hope that I can someday have luxurious healthy plants like yours. l so covet your Lady of Shalott and hope that maybe someday I will be able to add that rose to my garden.
I love your good- nature. Humorous but not silly. And very good information. Thank you for the time line of rose care. Love your videos. Please keep on recording...
I'm so glad that I discovered your channel! I'm an expat living in Germany who decided to use Covid lockdowns to tackle the overgrown garden. After a lot of work and even more money, it's starting to look the way I want. I have bought over 20 different roses, including my first David Austien (A Shropshire Lad). I have watched many gardening channels, but most presenters are too perfect. I'd rather take advice from a passionate amateur.
Watching your videos with this lady of shallot Rose gets me so excited and anxious to receive my rose in the spring. It is just so gorgeous!❤️ You have to show us your method of composting too!
That red one is going out, it is Dr. Huey. I should have taken it out long time ago. I inherited it with the house. Dr. Huey is one tough Rose, sick as anything, most roses for cold US are grafted on it. The minute it starts blooming, it gets black spot and in 2 weeks is completely defoliated, and then has all the strength to regrow again…So, after this guy is out, no more hot reds…
Just found your channel! Thank you for the information. I am wondering if generous gardener will give you a second flush on that arbor? I am also zone 6b
@@OlgaCarmody thank you! I have two of them and am having a hard time cutting the flowers off they are so pretty 😍 Im enjoying your videos as I binge watch them!
Olga! Thanks for this. I just checked and it looks like Connecticut is in zones 5-7? Which zone are you? I'm in 5B so if you're in the same zone, you can be my mentor! LOL Thanks again! 💖💖💖
I am just on the border between zone 6 and 7. So warmer than you, I am on coastal CT and ocean breathes bring warm weather. literally 10 miles inland and it is almost zone 5. My weather can be very unpredictable in spring…
Can you please tell me how old your lady of shallot is? And it's so interesting that how care can be so different in different parts of the world for the same plants. Like in NE India, here in zone 10-11 my roses never "sleep" and they're always in full bloom, but our major flush of blooms is in the cooler "winter" months. The roses just struggle a bit in the heat and humidity 😅
Hi, my rose is approx. 7 years old. And you are so right, care of roses is so different even here in US! I am amazed that your roses never go into dormancy and blossom well!
What kind of bag you use for making compost? Can I put grass clippings and leaves, twigs in a black trash bag and store in our shed for a year and become compost?
Thanks for sharing your quick way of deadheading , is it only one Lady of shallot bush at the one you're deadheading ? I ordered one for the next spring shipment. Do you like Boscobel rose ?
I am growing 2 bushes together approx 18 inches from each other. Good luck with your new Lady of Shalott next year! I am growing Boscobel in the front of my house. It is just its first year in my garden and I am very impressed with the bloom color! I like it. I am going to show that new baby in one of my next videos. Happy gardening!
@@OlgaCarmody .I am going to add another Lady of shallot, Boscobel is out if stock now , in your experience, it will become available in few months or need to order next year ? Thanks Olga !
@@user-ww9uf7tv6y Oh, I was told that any rose out of stock for this year will only be available to ship next spring if you order bare root. So go ahead and place your order soon. Everyone is gardening now after COVID!

When should I trim my roses since I live in Texas zone 9 and it’s hardly never cold and basically they bloom all year around here and to feed them??
