What an AMAZING song.. from Writing to Delivery.. Right? King Crimson was BRILLIANT from the START (1968) but THIS 1980s INCARNATION OF KC is an AWESOME Human Experience. Nothing else like it. Good to see these Brilliant Talents on TOUR (2024) so many years from THEN.. when these young lads held the World by the Tail.
Can't really hear it, but it looks like he was doing it near the end. It's ~10 notes/second. There are faster guitarists than Fripp for sure, but he is uniquely brilliant.
I love Vai's performance but I think maybe Al Di Meola might have slightly better picking chops to pull it off. That said, this type of music is far removed from what Di Meola typically performs.
honestly, i think the same. he double-picks those pentatonic notes, he doesn't play the pattern up and down like should be done. he could have done a mix of picking and legato without changing the notes, it sounds a bit like "cheating" to me how he plays that part, but he's Steve Vai, i'm here in my bedroom writing with the pc ;)
All top notch, but it lacks an element of precision that made those songs work. Not sloppy, it's missing the rigid spine on which everything else hangs. Vai's a virtuoso to be sure, and isn't there to imitate Robert, but this music is an ill-fitting pair of shoes for him, so he seems constricted. That said, I'm glad they're doing this and Adrian's voice is angelic, along with the perfection of Tony Levin.
I'm trying to like this but I kinda don't. While i appericiate Vai's efforts to spice up the composition, I'm not sure it fits the mood very well. On top of that he's using distorted tone on Fripp's parts which should be almost totally clean.
As a 45 year fan I definitely understand your point. And your point is valid insofar as it is subjective but fact-based. That said, I'm personally happy with it. For me, I just find it really interesting to see what spice Vai brings to the stew. It's different than Fripp, but there's no denying he's an absolute virtuoso. And what he's bringing, IMHO, is different, not inferior. I'm glad he's not copying or trying to outdo Fripp. He seems to be just applying his own distinct and impressive skills to extremely complex music. And that's an interesting sonic experience for me even if others don't feel the same. In the end, I hope we can all enjoy this powerful music.
@@DKStanford The way you explained it, is kinda making it seem more reasonable. And of course I would have to hear it live or on a live record to make the final conclusion. Still I must add that these compositions, atleast for me, are almost comparable to lets say a piece by Steve Reich or John Cage. If you change something, it doesn't only sound wrong but it causes a clitch to the composition. Oh well, maybe I'm just too narrow minded and I agree we should atleast enjoy it for what it's worth.
@@1banez 100%.I share your love & interest in Reich and Cage too and completely understand and respect what you're saying. Fripp's style is so complex and precise that it belies imitation. I don't even think Fripp himself could change it up without fans questioning the choice. But ultimately KC is also a rock band only speaking for myself I think it's pretty cool to hear 2 Zappa proteges just rocking out on this music. I've still got the original vinyl and even a VHS of the Frejus concert for when I need a pure fix. I've never really followed Vai's career but he's been really respectful of the music in all the interviews I've seen and there's no denying he's got tremendous skill. As long as everybody on that stage is having fun I'll be happy that they're breathing new life into music nearly half a century old. ♥️
Guys, seriously, all of you who are disappointed need help.. Adrian is 70, it's a while he has no the same voice, not the same precision on guitar, he doesnt play scales.., Steve is completely new to the music.. there is something wrong with you, not with them..
Can't believe Belew's voice! Incredible
Smooth as ever...
It's so wonderful to have a renewed love fest with all of these tunes! 🎉
Con cuánto respeto el maestro Vai interpreta al maestro Fripp, grande Steve y grandiosos todos. Vengan a Chile!!!!!
subí historias etiquetandolos a mi insta, hay q hacer de todo pa que se haga posible que vengan a chile jajsjasn saludos
Vai is always on top. Play a lot always and forever, always seeking new blends, special man, seems to be humble too. Nice project!
Vai does Fripp, nice!
Nice performance! One of my favourite KC songs.
Fripp's rapidly and exhaustingly played part is matter for John McLaughlin
Good voice!
Holy shit this is great.
Wonder if the beginning is a bit familiar with Danny since his band Tool has a similar riff for their song 7empest.

was a little tiny bit disappointed that Vai didn't play the picking line at full speed like Fripp did, but that's alright
Fripp hit 9-11 notes/second. Nobody else I know of can do that and Vai is an amazing guitarist in his own right.

He could do it with hammering

Thank you! Looking forward to seeing them at the Ryman
I wonder if Fripp will get out there and check out a show
people seem to forget this is cell phone audio
King Crimson did a lot.
46&2 Tool's inspiration for this song
This came first by over a decade.

You don't have to like it.
@@drewbacsi Of course I don't have to like. But it's a bit of a missed opportunity in my opinion.

2:32 to 3:14 is gonna take alot of getting used to for me ..
How was the sound? Was it comparable with the usual awesome KC sound? What I hear from the recordings, it doesn’t sound too good.
iPhone 11!

Sounds awesome but looks awful, they need to sack off their lighting designer.
very dissapointing .... Belew sounds tired ... and Vai guitar sound is NOT for Crimson songs ....
Belew sounds like he is in his 70s which he is.... Vai was told by Robert he should put his own spin on it and not just try to copy him.
