That is too much work. I don't bother removing the small straps from the loops. I just drop down, sometimes putting on blanket on rear window. Most of the time we don't bother doing topdowns. I've been thinking of getting bikini top, but not sure if those require removal of the whole regular top. I don't want a complete replacement, but the "Thing Shop" did not respond to my question if it replaces the whole "regular" top.

If it works for you, then that's great. I've seen how it ages, and it is a 2k top to replace. For me, it's worth the extra time. Bikini top would be fun, I guess. But it gets cold in my neck of the woods (especially mornings) so and I use it in the cold as well. As long as you are enjoying the ride it's all good.

It sure does. You can NOT use any part of the original top or frame. A bikini top is it's own top and consequently has its own frame. It consists of a "header" that clips into the top of the frame, straps that go to the metal "bows".

Not undoing the straps will eventually damage the top. Damage will also occur if not properly folded down. Resist the urge to just unlatch, flop and drop. The frame will pinch and eventually cut into the top. Don't forget to release the side clips before folding back.
I have both the OEM style heavy duty frame/top from the Thing Shop as well as the Bikini. Use the Bikini during warmer months, Full top during the colder months. Takes about 20 minutes to change tops by myself. A little less is you have a helper.

Maybe you can explain why we have to take out all the rear tab. I just put my top on, and today I just lowered back like a normal convertible top.

Eventually you will damage the top, both with creasing and tearing as well as excessive rubbing wear. You can do it the way you are doing it but it really halves the life of the top.
