I never paid close enough attention to those z-clips. Your explanation made so much sense! Great video man, thanks!
I initially wondered what I would learn from a project I won't ever do personally, then the z-clip detail and explanation came up, and it is confirmed that I should just watch all Jay Bates videos end to end, because you never know what little tip you'll learn.
I see lots of tea dates for you in the future......
GREAT JOB!
What I love about watching you use these magnificent tools in your amazing shop Jay is where you have progressed from when you was working in the apartment, you deserve this success from such a great work ethic. Great channel mate.
Great project, Jay! As someone that is starting to get grandkids, this is something that I’ll definitely want to build.
Love the pic in the background of you and your daughter.
Great project, thank you for showing in great detail the hold down clips I have been doing it wrong, now I can fix some projects and avoid problems going forward. Also I’m glad you picked Rockler as a sponsor, with out them I think it would be hard to consistently deliver the great content that you do. You have me in so many ways on my projects over the years. Ray
Your attention to dust collection is amazing.I love the stand and hood setup you used with your circular saw. That's brilliant
PS It's been really fun following your woodworking progression and growth from back in the days of the apartment complex shop.
I love the talking to yourself humor, especially answering with exasperation! ... Love your vid style.
Love it when you actually make stuff. Great background music on this post.
Rofl!!!
"Team Jay for the win"
My kids need a table like this. Awesome build and video as usual.
Cool video jay, cool music, excellent build. Your daughter is super lucky having you for her dad. Get well 🇮🇪
Your editing skills are awesome. The whole overlay conversations you do are perfect representation of what is constantly happening in my brain! So glad I’m not the only crazy one! 🤣
Wishing all of your family a quick recovery ,great video
OMG your editing and humor are FANTASTIC!!! Not to mention the quality build. Mad skills there my friend. You are where people dream to be.
Gorgeous! You're always an inspiration and I love the back and fourth with your "twin"...
Great video Jay. Thank you for taking the time to educate on the clips. I always learn something from your videos. I hope you and your family get better soon.
Making things for others is always rewarding, but making things for your kids it's always the best!
My wife and I are both in our seventies and have underlaying medical problems. Therefore we have been house bound for the last two weeks. Get tired of sitting and watching TV. Caught your project when it first came out and thought what a great idea for the grand kids. Picked up all the material just before the weather took a dump. Too cold for this old guy to work in the garage. Finally got to it. Used 3/4 S4S Douglas fir. And not having a domino machine and mortice and tendon being too much, I went with pocket screws. Turned out great. Major difference: Had to make three chairs for three kids. Now only have too wait until we can get out of the house and go the 900 miles to the grand kids house.
Glad you're making the best of these times :)
When my granddaughter was 1 I made a maple table and two chairs for her. When her little brother came along a couple years later, I made two more chairs. She is 6 now and he is 4 and they use that table and the chairs every day. They will be family heirlooms. This is a build you will really enjoy.
The video was so well done!
That's awesome. Hope your little girl gets better soon. I remember making a desk for my girl. Very satisfying. Keep well mate
Wow that's a big ass belt sander!
Great build, Jay! Hope you all are feeling better soon!!
What beautiful grain! Very nice Jay!
Jay, enjoyed the video. Hope it is enjoyed a lot by your little one. B
Ahh you are bringing back the Super MARIO Bro’s sound effects, love it 😆🤪. Great looking little table set. Excellent explanation of the use and proper installation of the z clips. I hope you and your family get better soon.
Holy belt sander Batman!
Fantastic choice on the Ash... looks great Jay!!!
Thank you for sharing this with us Mr. Bates. 👍👏🏼
Looking good without the hat bud! Something was off the whole time and I couldnt put my finger on it! Love your videos man! They always get me motivated to get out into the shop and create something
beautiful project
Everything you make looks like so easy, you're the best!
I'm not sure which I enjoy more...the builds themselves or your video editing skills! Great work!
Very slick and informative video Jay. Hope you and the family feel better soon.
Jay, wanted to drop a quick comment and say congratulations on your success. I've been watching your videos since the beginning and have had the pleasure of witnessing your progress over the years from the apartment shop to your new shop, it's quite an impressive journey. Wishing you many more years of continued success!
Hi!
Beautiful set and very useful. Indispensable for children.
A year ago I did very similar for two girls.
I painted roses and daisies on the backs of the chairs. All furniture legs have "extensions" tied to domino (in 2 years I will put them on so that the table and chairs last longer).
Greetings from Poland!
Bravo Jay! This was the best produced/edited RUclips woodworking video I've ever seen. Fun watch!
Great explanation of the tabletop hold-down clips! Thanks for that.
That looks brilliant fair play.
Give me some inspiration to maybe build something like this for my son.
Good job Jay
Great video Jay. You take talking to yourself to a whole new level. LOL!! I love it!!
Beautiful table and chair set for children. I am a total newbie to woodworking...my only concern is...Personal Protective Equipment...I watched a couple of videos about table saws. Including a blade to prevent kickback, a guard, and a push stick. Please be safe!
great build and the video is edited so well! thanks for sharing!
That figure is amazing! Great project, Jay
My grandpa SchoenBauer built Chairs and Lego tables for every one of his grandchildren.
I love your videos, informative and entertaining all at the same time, kudos Jay!
Craftsmanship is on another level.
Thank you so much for the detailed z-clips explanation! So much value you bring with those types of details.
Should we leave a gap when installing them or push them all the way into the slot?
If you live in a really humid environment leave a tiny gap. If you live in a really dry environment you're ok to push them in all the way.
Thank you sir for the exhaustive explanation regarding the table clips! Informative as always!
Glad it was helpful!

the "Team Jay" was awesome! Nice bit of humor.
The editing is brilliant. The chairs are too!

Love the project and really love the video editing techniques.
Great build, and always impressive editing! Man your shop is looking sweet! That belt sander and woodpecker wall with all the clamps... tool porn! Keep up the awesome videos and hope the family and you get well soon!
Loved the self banter
I didnt know you had a twin who works super fast
Great Video! Not only the build but also the editing of the video. I build also a set for my kid but it is no so sophisticated
Nicely done, Jay!!
Team Jay all the way 😊 Awesome build as always- one lucky litttle girl
Great Carpentry your a legend Jay
Awesome work Jay! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Beautiful project!
I've been watching you for years. You have gotten to be a very accomplish builder of many very nice items. Have you considered opening a woodworking school? If not, you should. You and "your twin" can really demonstrate in a fashion that the common builder can understand. I see you have gotten some real nice machinery. Good for you!!! I am a totally disabled veteran and can only spend so much time in my shop, but while I'm there I do enjoy every moment of it. I built my 1st table this past year for my son and I have another one in the works for my neighbor. The 1st one was built out of pine, for that is what my son wanted, but the next one is being built out of Sepele that has a lot of ribbons. 40" x 80" are the size of both tables. You use Sketch-Up quite a bit and I would like to learn how to use Sketch-up, but I don't think it is available for my Mac. I bought a DVD from the WWGOA and haven't looked at it yet, but with most of George's DVD's I'm confident it will be easy to understand. I guess I will need to buy a PC. May you have continued success on the web and truthfully, consider that school. YOU ARE GOOD!!!
Great video Jay! I think this is the first race against yourself overlaying I have seen. Your videographer and editing skills have come a long way. Keep it up.
I have a three and a two-year-old and have yet to do something like this for them. This looks amazing thank you for the inspiration.
One more quick question Jay, Have you ever done a dry assembly and found it just didn’t work. It seems like every time I’ve done one everything turns out just right, but I know the moment I don’t something will go wrong.
Fantastic video, as always!
Team J for the win!!! Yeah!
Great video. I always love your editing skills. That said, I thought the pseudo-western/California relax music was unexpected! Hehe. Cheers!
Great explanation on the table top clips. I have not used them yet but I surely would have created the grooves incorrectly.
Ha. I had watched this before. Still laughed at 4:54. "Woo. Team Jay for the win" lol! Love it! Only thing better than Jay Bates is TWO.
Anyhow. Thanks for sharing this so I could check out the z clip explanation. Super helpful.
Bravo!!
#TeamJay
gizanked #TeamBates all the way
Hilarious and awesome build
C'est tres beau !
I just got recommended your channel and you've earned yourself another sub, fantastic video, fantastic explanation and fantastic work. I'd love to see more of the sketchup side of things going forward.
Thanks. Check out jayscustomcreations.com/sketchup as I have a lot of stuff already published.
Looks amazing!
Very nice project!
6:40 Great explanation and important to know 💡
Job well dome as usual. On thing that stuck out and am curious about. Don’t the gloves at the tablesaw negate any safety benefit from the Sawstop?
Team Jay for the win! Lol
First in depth explanation of how the Z clips should actually work!
Well done 👍
That is about the prettiest ash I have ever seen. Short of winning the lottery I know I will never be able to afford a giant table type belt sander like that. This fact makes me hate you just a wee tiny bit right now. LOL Great stuff as usual.
Love, love, love!!
Love the editing haha! Look great
Really nice set Jay. That ash looks sharp! I hope your family gets over flu quickly.
How do you like your Hammer belt sander?
Awesome videos! New subscriber. Thbxs for the videos!
awesome job as always, was that shellac you sprayed on the project
Great job
wooo! team Jay for the win.... just about lost my mind laughing so hard!
Awesome vid Jay. Great project for me to try for my kids. Z-clips allowing for sideways expansion/contraction on the width of the panels makes great sense. Is there any thing to consider for the expansion on the length of the panel or is that negligible?
Beautiful! One question: How do you ensure the tabletop and chair seats will not move around? If you have enough play in the fasteners to allow for seasonal movement wouldn't the top be loose?
Rather smart I would say!
When finishing in your shop are you not worried about over spray?
No. Shellac atomizes so fast and the HVLP setup does a good job of not having too much overspray. A light dusting does happen sometimes if I spray heavy but it's no concern at all.
Great video, Jay. The explanation of the height to cut the mortise for the table top fasteners was one of those eye opening “omg why didn’t I realize that before” moments. Plans purchased. 👍
Question: why the green nitrile gloves for some of the milling shots? Ash allergy?
Jay, thanks for the maker video. Love watching the projects come together. Love your shop too. When did you get the horizontal belt sander?
Hi Jay. See with the domino how do you get it actually centered on 18mm thick plywood when the closes preset setting is 20mm? I know centering doesn't matter as long you reference both sides but its extra work. Any pointers welcomed. Keep up the nice work!
Senica (spelling?) and Woodpeckers makes an offset plate for common plywood thicknesses. But I just get it close by eye and keep track of reference faces.
Nice idea on the fixed Domino. Do you have a plan for the bracket or a video of how you set it up. It went by too fast for me to see the details.
Never mind - I found the reference on your website.
Awesome build. Your shop is amazing and so is your camera work. I always enjoy your videos. But I’m not so sure about that other guy you work with...
