    Thanks for this one. Great choice of guest. He seemed genuinely surprised at the high esteem he's held in.

    The best bit is when Gary describes aeroplanes in the most Ballardian way ever ❤

    I saw Gary last night in Boston,he is better than ever. I've seen him throughout his career starting around 1980,which may have been his first American tour behind the Replicas album.He was totally original, still is.

    Ironic that Trent Reznor of all people was the source of the epiphany about not despising one's back catalogue - Nine Inch Nails avoids playing the greatest hits like the plague!

    I know Gary always slags off the Machine & Soul album but I much prefer that to the formulaic stuff he does now, the songs are heavy gothic drum beat, whispered bit, quiet bit, big shouty bit, plod plod same bpm...end. Sounds like the same song over and over again.
    I've been a fan since first hearing 'Complex' in 1979 and I was one of the people that went to see him when he couldn't give the tickets away. Just don't get this new stuff at all.

    • @mightyV444
      @mightyV444 11 дней назад

      Yeah, I feel the same way. His more recent stuff is far from being bad, but it's just a tad too dark and too heavy for my taste.
      I do totally understand that artists usually evolve over time and don't want to just stick to their old styles, though.
      I actually haven't heard 'Machine & Soul' yet and will change this fact 🙂👍

    You were awful about Numan back in the day Gary K. The New Romantic scene ignored Numan, hated him in fact. I went to Billy’s, Blitz, Studio 21 etc, Never did Rusty or Stevo play Numan. We considered ourselves Futurists, not Bew Romantics. I also was the year below you at Back Hill London College of Printing. I think I said ‘ you were mad to leave a job for life..’ I was wrong about that but not about the Genius of Numan. I appreciate you now respecting him. Don’t forget yes Numan went to the Blitz but was turned away….. Great stuff Mr Numan!! You still have it in droves, what ever it is …👌

    Machine & Soul is better musically, has better lyrics, and much better melodies than anything he has done with Ade Fenton.

  • @santasboyfriend4813

    I wish Gary would be more creative in the studio instead of relying on Ade Fenton (he only got the gig of producer because he was Gemma's friend), but even if Gary wanted to do something non industrial or NIN influenced, and he could easily do so but Gemma would not allow it, she even tells Gary how to dress!

    Come on guys (and Guy), this is ridiculous. Thirty podcasts and only one female guest. I know you're old-school, but give me a break. Time to get yourselves in tune with the times.
