The load I'm carrying is a base game load. It's either the heavy cargo DLC or the special transport DLC. I'm not sure which one it is.

Yes, you have to find a heavy haul load. It will have a caution symbol next to it in the menu. When you are searching for a job just do a broad search and change the search criteria to heavy loads at the top.
