Metudemga Pro Agreed! The ACX approval time is atrocious lately. As for Authors Republic, you only get 2 avenues beyond what you get through Findaway Voices. And, it’s all or nothing. You can either publish to Findaway Voices and collect all your royalties, or publish to AR and collect part of your FV royalties plus get 2 avenues you don’t get through FV. Full disclosure: those avenues aren’t noteworthy. I believe AR needs to loosen up their all or nothing stance. Or, stand to lose authors who would otherwise use them for the 2 avenues. For now, don’t have a positive view of AR.
@@DaleLRoberts Hi Dale, I publish few titles to both AR and FV after getting some tips from you. Most of the sales coming from Libraries. Getting around $0.4 per rent from Hoopla despite the length or retail price of the book.
Great information. I have an audiobook company who wants to publish my audio for 20% fee, so I decided to do some research myself to see if I could do it on my own. I realize there is work to be done on my part but dang! I can save a lot of money doing it on my own so THANK YOU! Question- do all 3 platforms accept mp3 file uploads?
@@DaleLRoberts And correction, its an ongoing 20% fee of all sales moving forward. I see the value in possibly paying someone to help with the intial upload to make sure it's all done correctly with the most awareness but not ongoing percentage of all sales. That's seems a bit much. Thanks again.
Great video. I didn't see anything about how or where you enter info about how you get paid. Is that because you provided that through ACX? Thinking about publishing my first children's book. It was done about a few weeks back and has had a tremendous response from the half dozen randomly selected people in my focus group. Wasn't intending to publish - but they are pushing me in this direction. Thank you for the info. Much appreciated.
I entered all the payment info for both ACX and Findaway Voices before I did this video. The process is fairly intuitive. If you get stuck, ask support for help.
Hi Dale - Just (right now) "fell" onto your channel. Great stuff. Much appreciated. Quick Question; can (you) produce and publish an audiobook without having first published (at least) an ebook?
Yes, absolutely! Avoid ACX since they require that. Findaway Voices allows you to do it. Look into other avenues like PublishDrive, Author's Republic, Lantern Audio, and Audiobooks Unleashed. I believe they function the same too, although PublishDrive does require a monthly subscription. Do your research before committing to any one platform. My opinion? Go with Findaway Voices.
Hello, Dale! Excellent and informative video! We've got an original sci-fi audio drama we'd like to release in audiobook format (more of an audio movie, really! SFX, music, an ensemble cast, etc.). Since this is a one-off project, we are leaning away from traditional podcast avenues. I know ACX advises against adding music which we have in addition to SFX. Love to hear your thoughts and recommendations. Thanks in advance!
Never compromise your artistic vision. If you believe having background music is integral to the deliver, then do it! I believe you should be safe. Contact ACX support for safety. You can always launch without music on ACX and publish elsewhere with the full soundtrack. Just my thoughts. Thanks!
Love your video and am subscribing now :) How would we do this if our narration is to animation video? We want to convert our video to audiobook to these 45 platforms. Possible?
Hnmmm, that's way outside of my wheelhouse. I'd probably hire a pro. And, the audio will need to be set to specs, so you'll need someone to strip the audio, and possibly remaster it to suit audiobook specifications (preferably ACX, since they're the strictest on audio parameters). Search around on Fiverr, maybe? Or, try it yourself with free software like Audacity. Let us know how it goes.
I guess that I can get that audiobook now 😆 But seriously, I'm glad there are more than two places that a potential audiobook could be published and that I know how to do it, now 😊
Nice! Straight to the point with this one, love it. I'm with acx and findaway voices, not publish drive..perhaps in future. Great to see who the narrator was too ;)
Good Morning Dale. Do you have a list of places where you can publish video audio books and be paid ? Where by its don like a read aloud. Hope I was clear 😃
Hmmm, I'm not sure what you're asking, but I'll take a stab at it. I believe you're asking where you can publish your audiobooks as videos. RUclips is the best first place. Beyond that, you can probably look into other platforms like Facebook Watch, Twitch, Instagram, and more. You're only limited by what you can Google search up. I plan to do the same with my audiobooks about self-publishing. It's just getting the time to produce the videos to upload to my second channel (podcast). I had a great conversation with Nick Thacker (highly recommend you subscribe to his channel) where he shared he posted an audiobook to his RUclips channel and got monetized fairly quick. So, I'm certainly intrigued. Maybe another avenue would be Spotify. But, the only way (right now) to post videos there is by way of Anchor. But, I believe they only intend that for podcasts. I could be wrong though. I hope that helps.
If it's published as an ebook or print book, use the ASIN or ISBN to search for your title on ACX. If you haven't published it, you won't see it. If you're still having problems, contact support@acx.com.
Hi Dale, thank you for this amazing summary! However, there's one thing not quite obvious to me: if Findaway can also publish to ACX automatically, why do you publish to ACX separately at the beginning? Thanks again!
Findaway Voices takes a 20% cut from your Amazon/Audible earnings at the 25% ACX non-exclusive agreement. If I'm going to be getting a lower royalty from using FV, then it's probably best to upload directly to ACX where I get the full 25%. Good question!
Apple defers to Findaway Voices over ACX and have even stated in a couple webinars I attended that "ACX is not a preferred partner." Rather than getting 25% of every sale, you'll be getting 45% from Apple. Granted, Findaway takes 20%, but it still comes out above 25%. Good question~! Glad you asked.
What if you have an audiobook that does not have an ebook or print version. I have several books that have been out of copyright for a long time and another publisher has those books in a private bookstore. I have audiobook versions and would like to post them for sale, but on ACX for example, it has to be linked to an existing title. Or, if it doesn't, I don't know how to get past that part. HOw can this be done?
Findaway Voices allows you to upload content without the ebook or print book on Amazon. I always thought that was a silly prerequisite for publishing audiobooks through ACX.
Hmmm, my book was available at the time. If it wasn't ACX wouldn't be able to process it through. Findaway Voices, you don't need to have any prior publications.
I have recorded the audio - is is possible to publish on Audible without the book being on Amazon? The books are sold in book stores and Duty free. She has sold over 1m copies in South Africa.
Dale, in Find A Way Voices diselect Audible only? or Amazon and iTunes too? Since Im choosing Non-Exclusive in ACX... is that really much better than normal 40 % exclusive royalty in ACX? Thanks
Yes, deselect Amazon/Audible, but leave Apple alone. I explain why here: ruclips.net/video/AwUP7pJYWGI/видео.html You get only 40% of the 25% payout from Apple when exclusive to ACX. When you go nonexclusive, you only get 25% of the 25% payout from Apple. Yeah, did you notice how ACX failed to tell you how much you ACTUALLY get from Apple? Findaway Voices gives you 80% of the 45% payout from Apple. And, the nice thing is Apple actually defers to Findaway Voices over ACX. So, don't sweat duplicate publishing. I believe we talked about it more in this interview: ruclips.net/video/7lypQWgP2Co/видео.html
Dale this is a great video and thank you for doing it directly and quickly. I do have a question. I'm an indie writer, and don't have the deep pockets to get my books narrated. I'm doing it myself. I've cloned my own voice and am using an AI service to create the narrated book. Can I still publish this way?
ACX and Findaway Voices won't accept AI-narrated audiobooks. Well...they're not supposed to, but for some reason they let a LOT slip through the cracks.
Okay thank you so much, So I'm the beginning of the acx proccess of your video You have to log in and then click add your title, then the next step is claiming your book, this is the part I've been stuck on for over a year and a half, How do I add my book to Acx's system so I can claim it? This is all I was curious about, because if I look up my book it's of course not there because I haven't been able to put it there somehow, Once again thank you so much
This was a great video, very informative but a little over my head. I don’t know how to make the actual audio book yet. Do you hire actors? Sound effects? How do you record it? I mean to you do wav files or use another formats? Do you do only one chapter at a time? What are the typical costs? So many questions lol.
Hey there, I really appreciated this video but have one issue I think you should be aware of. Find away voices and ACX both distributed to iTunes. So there ended up being two listings for the book on iTunes. I ended up calling acx and having them remove their version from iTunes.
Interesting. Apple is supposed to do that automatically. Was metadata at all different from ACX to Findaway Voices. Any small change could make Apple believe it's a different audiobook. That's just a guess, because it should be automatic. Apple defers to Findaway Voices because they're a "preferred partner" (Apple's words).
Oh, and 1 more question... Do you have any videos on picking the correct Category? My book is an autobiography but I discuss overcoming extreme adversity(abuse, drugs, single parenting-rock bottom places) so I believe it belongs in the Self-Help/Personal Development category as well. I was told I can only choose 1 category on Amazon and 2 sub categories from there. I'm a little confused on this process so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
For audiobooks, it's a different process altogether. You can have up to three categories for your audiobook through Audible. I have a video in my backlog covering it.
Thanks for this great step by step video. I just published my second audiobook, Through Dust and Darkness, following your guidelines. (Except I only use ACX and Findaway.) My first book, Motorcycle Therapy, was distributed through Open Book Audio. Recently, I got an email stating that they are disbanding and moving all of their titles over to Findaway Voices. Do you have a video that covers that transition? I'm curious about my options: 1. Allow my title to move over as is. 2. Take my title back, publish to ACX separately, and Findaway Voices, like in your video.
Sure thing, Jeremy. I'm glad to know this. While Findaway will probably handle this transition fine, if it were me, I'd probably unpublish and republish it the same way you did with your second book. That way, everything is standardized and you're not having to deal with any weird glitches.
Dale. Thank you for your much-appreciated help. Now a question. When I export to create mp3's My chapters do not properly align numerically. I have tried everything I know to fix this but to no avail. Have you encountered this?
No, I haven't encountered that. My audio engineer titles the files according to chapter. Then, I just upload and re-arrange according to the right order.
awesome video... Hey, i’m super green here.. If i use Find A Way, do i have to go thru ACX, (they offer the 3 that acx does) (physical copy is currently available on amazon)
Can you upload an audiobook from any country? I tried on ACX but they said that it doesn't include my country yet? is it the same on the other platforms?
ACX is extremely limited. Try Findaway Voices. They are available in every country. You should find this content helpful - ruclips.net/video/AwUP7pJYWGI/видео.html
I narrated my book but didn't do chapter breaks. It's the first installment of a seriel novel, only an hour long, give or take a couple of minutes. Now I am wondering if I have to redo it to include chapter breaks 🤔
Hey Dale, I love your videos man, you provide excellent value on a regular basis and I thank you. I have a question. I hear people saying they have used the audio from their ACX book-narrator and then reused it on Find away voices or Arthurs republic. My concern though is, is that allowed on ACX? If your non-exclusive and you can download the finished audio, do you have rights to use that audio on other audiobook distributors platforms?
Yes, absolutely! So long as you paid the narrator and it's not a royalty split deal on ACX, you are free to publish your title elsewhere. That's what this video demonstrated.
i built a ghostwriter that chooses cover, voice tone, and non fiction books of 75 pages to 200 pages. I can produce a pdf or epub but not sure about amazon accepting the file as a link and I have never seen audible
Hi Dale, just came across this vid (and your channel) and it's been a tremendous help, this video is great. So I want to get into the Audiobook publishing 'market' and at the moment I'm registering my ACX account (bear in mind im 15). During registration, it asks for a company name but I don't own a company, do i just make up a name and put ltd or llc after it? Also, will I be an Author or a Publisher? I'm not writing the original book, just making a manuscript of a book then getting it narrated and then publishing it, so would that make me a Publisher? Lastly, I don't have a valid UK tax ID, is there a way i can continue without one?. Once again, great vid and wish you the best of luck in your career!!!
Hey, thanks for the great questions. An official business name isn't required. You can simply use your name. I'd say that qualifies you as a publisher. In the US, you can use your social security number as the tax ID. I'm not sure what the UK equivalent would be. If you are still having trouble, reach out to ACX. Best of luck to you as well!
Enjoyed your video, can you refer someone to me to do exactly what you describe in your video? I am anxious to get my book(s) in the market. I write books, but, I am not a computer geek. Thanx in advance
One more question about uploading everything to Amazon... Is there a way to save it as a "draft"? Can I start with uploading everything now and keyword search, etc and save it until I'm ready to publish it or do I have to do it all at once?
You rock Dale! Quick question, I uploaded on ACX then when I am about to hit “I am Done” I get there a message about selecting title. I emailed them and now I am waiting. By any chance do you know to edit title problems. I saw that I accidentally misspelled a word but I wasn’t able to go back to make my correction. When I tried logging back then to project to look for my book, it didn’t pop up. Thanks
Going direct to ACX, you get more money. If you go through Findaway Voices to fulfill ACX (Audible/Amazon), then you're losing 20% of net profit. That's why I go non-exclusive to ACX and fulfill the rest through FV.
I am a narrator sharing royalties with authors on ACX. If I want to help my authors and myself expand their income streams, should I end the exclusive with ACX and republish the book under my publishing company so that we can still share royalties? What suggestions do you have to get around FV's anti-narrator stance? thanks,
That's completely your call. I disagree with your stance on Findaway Voices being anti-narrator. Considering they protect the narrators agreed PFH and don't allow for negotiation indicates a company invested in your interests more than the rights holders. If you're referring to the royalty share agreement, from the side of the rights holders, it's a more fair agreement for us. On ACX, we essentially are at the whim of the narrator should we want to end the 50/50 royalty split. I've had narrators pitch unreasonable rates to sever a contract. While that might not be fair for you on Findaway Voices, it certainly is more suitable for the rights holders. Meanwhile, the narrator gets 150% their PFH as well as any split earnings BEFORE the buyout. I know some of the Findaway Voices team personally and feel they're in it to make EVERYONE happy. Sadly, that means a few people may NOT like what they offer. But, should you want to use FV, it's simple. Arrange an agreement with the rights holder ahead of time. Then, upload the project as DIY. Then, you and the rights holder can make royalty arrangements.
You got my attention, no need to ask in order to ask. Just a heads up, RUclips only notifies me on new comments, so I probably won't see your reply. Start a new comment thread or better yet, join me in our Discord community: DaleLinks.com/Discord. I'm on Discord a lot more and get all notifications.
Yes, just reach out to support@acx.com and ask to remove your audiobook from exclusivity after 90 days of being on the market. BUT...big but here...once you get out of exclusivity, you technically can't get back in. It's in their fine print. I had a friend who sweet talked them into letting him come back to exclusive, but that was after a LOT of coaxing.
On all these platforms, do you have to have a written audiobook already? I have just audio files I narrated myself and cover art, not a written book. Does anyone know? Thanks
Yes, you can publish an audiobook without the ebook or print book published. Use any platform but ACX. ACX is the only one who requires the book published in advance.

I realize there is work to be done on my part but dang! I can save a lot of money doing it on my own so THANK YOU! Question- do all 3 platforms accept mp3 file uploads?
Yes, in fact, the major audiobook distributors prefer mp3 files.
Thank you for the education Dale.
My pleasure!
Hi Dale -
Just (right now) "fell" onto your channel.
Thanks!
This was really helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
this was an amazing video - thank you so much.
You are so welcome!
@@DaleLRoberts is there some place I could submit a sample of my recordings to see if they are in compliance w ACX, w/o sending the files to them first? And - I'm assuming I'm not supposed to read the inside fore matter like ©info and inside title page, right?
Love your video and am subscribing now :) How would we do this if our narration is to animation video? We want to convert our video to audiobook to these 45 platforms. Possible?
Hnmmm, that's way outside of my wheelhouse. I'd probably hire a pro. And, the audio will need to be set to specs, so you'll need someone to strip the audio, and possibly remaster it to suit audiobook specifications (preferably ACX, since they're the strictest on audio parameters). Search around on Fiverr, maybe? Or, try it yourself with free software like Audacity. Let us know how it goes.
I guess that I can get that audiobook now 😆 But seriously, I'm glad there are more than two places that a potential audiobook could be published and that I know how to do it, now 😊
Nice! We gotta get you on one of those ASAP. Let me know what I can do to help.
I like so much the way how you explain
Nice! Thanks for the praise. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
Can't wait to get started.
Wishing you all the best, Doug!
Nice! Straight to the point with this one, love it. I'm with acx and findaway voices, not publish drive..perhaps in future. Great to see who the narrator was too ;)
Andy W haha Kevin’s a great narrator! Thanks for the kudos, buddy.
@@DaleLRoberts Hi yes you nailed it 😃🎉. Thank you for responding to my question.

Amazing video keep up the amazing work.

Very informative, thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for your comment.
When we search for title. my book is only audiobook. How do I get my title to show up there in acx?
Do you deselect iTunes as well when you are preparing the distribution list? It says that ACX covers, Amazon, Audible, and iTunes.
Thank you!
Thankyou, this was very helpful
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!
Love the vid Dale. One quick question though, if the book had never been available for purchase how did ACX have it in their system at 2:30 ?
Hmmm, my book was available at the time. If it wasn't ACX wouldn't be able to process it through. Findaway Voices, you don't need to have any prior publications.
I love this channel!! Such a tremendous help!
Glad you think so! Thanks for being a subscriber for the past month. Stay tuned for more!
Great content Dale - Thanks - My wife has a series of around 15 Children's books. Can you sell them as a series?
Absolutely.
@@DaleLRoberts Thanks for taking the time to respond, very cool of you
I have recorded the audio - is is possible to publish on Audible without the book being on Amazon? The books are sold in book stores and Duty free. She has sold over 1m copies in South Africa.
@@Brettflorens one doesn’t come without the other. In fact, if you distribute through Findaway Voices, you’ll notice the selection is Audible/Amazon.
I see you saying it will find your book. What if you haven't published it previously? Thanks. Super helpful here...
For ACX, you’ll need to have published the content first. Use your ISBN or ASIN.
Awesome. Thank you. What if you chose to go the audiobook route first. What audiobook platform would you recommend? 🙂
Findaway Voices.
Thank you Dale. Much appreciated.
Right on! I’m happy to help. Stay tuned for more.
I explain why here: ruclips.net/video/AwUP7pJYWGI/видео.html
You get only 40% of the 25% payout from Apple when exclusive to ACX.
Okay thank you so much,
So I'm the beginning of the acx proccess of your video You have to log in and then click add your title, then the next step is claiming your book, this is the part I've been stuck on for over a year and a half,
How do I add my book to Acx's system so I can claim it?
This is all I was curious about, because if I look up my book it's of course not there because I haven't been able to put it there somehow,
Once again thank you so much
Reach out to them at support@acx.com and ask them. They'll know better than I would.
This was a great video, very informative but a little over my head. I don’t know how to make the actual audio book yet. Do you hire actors? Sound effects? How do you record it? I mean to you do wav files or use another formats? Do you do only one chapter at a time? What are the typical costs? So many questions lol.
I have a free course for beginners at diypublishing.biz/free. You’ll learn there.
Self-Publishing with Dale that is great, I will definitely be checking that out.
Awesome! 😀👍👏
Um...wow!! This guy rocks!
Um, thanks!
Great video. I love audio books.
kazzuo The Great awesome! Me too.
@@DaleLRoberts Thanks. I found it.
Hello!
Can we use publish audiobooks on spotify??
I don't think so.
If i use Find A Way, do i have to go thru ACX, (they offer the 3 that acx does)
(physical copy is currently available on amazon)
You can do either or. If you use Findaway (all one word) and ACX, then deselect Audible/Amazon in your Findaway dashboard. Easy peezy.
That'll be a good idea since most platforms won't allow for that long for a single track.

Thx for the reply 👌👌
I have no idea what you’re asking here. Or if you’re asking anything. Could you restate the question?
Hey Dale, Im sorry if its a silly question but how do I get my ebook on amazon? so i can access it in the search thanks in advance
So, this is what my entire channel is literally about. Try this playlist - ruclips.net/video/u76Mm2K5LmI/видео.html
Can our audiobooks include sound effects?
Absolutely!
I'm already distributing with ACX. is there any way to leave them and go to Findaway?
Yes, just send a request to remove your title from ACX when you contact support@acx.com.
Enjoyed your video, can you refer someone to me to do exactly what you describe in your video? I am anxious to get my book(s) in the market. I write books, but, I am not a computer geek. Thanx in advance
Nope, most people just take care of this themselves. Two-factor authentication makes it really hard to have someone else do this for you.
One more question about uploading everything to Amazon... Is there a way to save it as a "draft"? Can I start with uploading everything now and keyword search, etc and save it until I'm ready to publish it or do I have to do it all at once?
Yep, you can save it as a draft and publish when you’re ready.
Thanks
You did the right thing. Contact support.
Great video 👍
Thanks 👍
if I'm ticking out anyway audible on find voices than why did i have to make non exclusive?
Hey Dale, if I ask a question about uploading my book on acx will you answer it?
I'd like to ask you a question
You got my attention, no need to ask in order to ask. Just a heads up, RUclips only notifies me on new comments, so I probably won't see your reply. Start a new comment thread or better yet, join me in our Discord community: DaleLinks.com/Discord. I'm on Discord a lot more and get all notifications.

Any time.
Do I have to go all places to see earnings for each audiobooks I upload on find away ?
Findaway Voices handles all that for you. Pretty cool, right?
What if I am already on ACX and selected Exclusive, is there a way to change that option?
I'm an author and infamous record producer with my own studio. Do you record each chapter separately to upload in order?
Yep.
this now works for Argentina
