Some people says it’s not worth fixing. But if you can fix old tech and give it life again with someone who needs it. It’s a win win. Plus I like watching you restore things.
I’ve done screen replacements on my SE, and I’ve always just bought screens made for the 5S. I’ve found it easy so long as I’m patient, although that one screw that’s holds the Touch ID flex cable to the screen is super annoying, and takes forever to get right. Any tips on how to make that easier?
Aiden Bagshaw it seems it’s just using the right pair of tweezers. The little bracket for Touch ID doesn’t seem necessary anyways, and I haven’t put mine back in. I know I should, but I can’t be bothered.
Logan Fike hey Logan where do you sell your iPhones I recently started and I few a few fixed iPhones already and I can’t sell on eBay because my account was closed for that.
Hi Hugh, I was inspired to have a go at restoring an iPhone 5s for the first time after watching this video, how many different screws!! Could you help me with an "Unexpected error occurred (error 40)" when trying to re-install software on an eBay purchased iPhone 5S It will connect to iTunes, then says needs restoring then error 40 Any advise would be appreciated thank you in advance kind regards
This could be my old iPhone 5s. Still have it, but it has exactly the same problems and color and storage and everything else. Perfect video because I was looking for repairing it!
Got a pair of beats x off of eBay listed as is for parts for $10. All I had to do was desolder the battery, charge it using an external battery charger, and resolder it. Everything works perfectly! They even came with the original box, and all the accessories!
I’m still using the iPhone 5s and currently it is in great condition, except when I press down on the top right hand side of the screen it pushes inward as if there is a gap. Any recommendations on how to fix this. Other than my ocd it’s causing no real problems.
Nice OEM housing! It looks like you missed a component when reassembling; at 4:45 you can see that the washer that was floating around under the Wi-Fi antenna connector at 2:39 is missing. It's meant to go underneath the logic board right where the bigger of the two screws affixing the "small little bracket" is.
Also at 3:05, both charging flex cables are original parts. On the charging flex removed from the new housing, you can see that it has features that wouldn't be found on an aftermarket flex: 1.There is evidence of it originating from what was once a fully assembled iPhone around the headphone and Lightning ports; notice how your old one and the new one both have remnants of the black grommet that ensures a snug fit of the ports against the unibody housing 2. The top of the Lightning receptacle's exterior has a black sticker on it 3. The back of the FPC connector already has the foam padding on it That metal bracket underneath the headphone port is actually part of the antenna system. It looks like that on the A1530 model iPhone6,2 5s, but IIRC the one found in the iPhone6,1 5s is much smaller.
Still rocking my Iphone 6s one replacement battery later and its still kicking had it since new. Updated it to IOS 13 a couple of months back and it works like a charm.
Shaun McMillan The 6s are bullet proof despite their age. I had 2 of them. One I bought used from eBay for about $200 USD. After a few months of using it daily the phone swelled due to a bad battery. I took it too the Apple store and the Gave me a new one ( it wasn’t brand new. I believe it was Apple refurbished ) for $50 and then it was dropped in water. Their one weakness. Water.
Hi Hugh, nice video again. It's always nice to watch you giving older/broken phones a new life. By the way. Which is your favorite brand for screen protectors? I've tried a few but it's always a pain to install them. Do you have a recommendation?
These phones are beautiful in design and ease or repair. Only the Touch ID is coded to the logic board. So if it gets damaged you loose Touch ID.
