    Hello Brian and Mrs Megan aka camera crew. Always picking up tips and tricks for plane setups. Programming 636 rx is a task i have done 1 and used the phone app. Its better on a pc. But it did work. Air marshal has a good set of videos on setting up the 636 rx. As always well done from you guys. We had a spa competition at our air field this weekend good turn out for the times. I posted a few pics of some of the planes on fb under Johnson city radio controllers. Thank you for your video keep flying you guys. Thank you for your video. Just having fun RC'n with friends and family members.

      Thanks for the heads up. I watched Air Marshal for some help...later realized I just needed to revert back to old firmware, but wasn't really excited to fiddle with it any more. These Rx'es are crazy powerfull, but HH doesn't make it "easy" to setup - that's for sure!!!

    Followed your video instructions and they worked fantastic,we were having trouble getting off grass with our t-birds at our local club field,now we are up in half the distance,we are using the stock AR631 specktrum recievers that came with the t birds,no matter what we did in the past we could not get in the air unless we hand tossed, but now with the flaperons no issues,we did havt to take safe off to use channel 6 for one side,can the safe channel be moved if say i went with a 8 channel rec with safe to have the bailout option(safe)

    Just used your link to pick up an F-16. With the 637T, I'm going to setup Flaperons and maintain AS3X. Thanks for sharing how to split and crimp the Y connector without taking the plane apart.
    Do you think the plane would provide more output with the 80A SMART ESC over the stock EFL 70A? Considering the upgrade, but unsure about space for it without cutting foam. The fit on the stock ESC already looked a little snug in your Gooniac Booty install video. The additional weight might help pull the CG back.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      First off, thank you for buying from the links ;)
      To answer your question...10 additional Amps for a pretty decent LOAD of cash might not be worth it, BUT if the money is secondary, the weight might be kinda nice to help move the CG back a bit. I do think you'll have a really fun time fitting it ;) You can always just RAM it in and see how it fits - that's usually half the fun ;)

      Felt like not a huge improvement. What this plane and many other EDF jet NEEDS...to be more tail heavy. This way you can slow down into a high alpha configuration and just PLOP it down in feet ;)
      I wanted SO badly for these Flapperons to work well...but they just basically didn't.
      I wonder about Leading Edge Slaps on this platform. I wonder if that would work, and might be fun to try. I want to slow down without HAVING to be in alpha...then I could land it more realistically looking, not that alpha doesn't look cool, it's just to intense a plop down.
      Maybe we can try this soon.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      YEAH. That's totally true...since you'd keep some roll authority with flapperons deployed. I'd like to setup that, but with the AR636B, with retracts, and with tailevons, if you're using AS3X, I don't think there's a way to do all of that at the same time.

    Hey mr phillips... I must say... I am greatly appreciated of your vids on youtube... you do a wonderful job, and I am very thankful for your informative vids... I am interested in doing some (maybe a little bit unorthodox mods to this 70mm thunderbird that was a gift from my mother for last xmas... (she wanted to do something nice for me as I have always been OBSESSED with absolutely everything about the F-16... I love its instability per design, and she surprised me with this plane). Her health is deteriorating and am blessed to have been lucky enough to recieve this gift from my dear mother... (I figure you might appreciate that)....Ive been speaking with a few fellow hobby enthusiasts that are well known, and speak very highly of you...
    I am interested in doing the "Ali" mod for 8s and the flapperon mod....
    If at all possible, do you think that you might be able to either make a vid with alternative options to modding the flapperons with an 8ch rx in order to keep as3x on both wings with basically the same thing as "Ali" did with his flapperon/elevator mix with his 8s upgrade.(or at least, please help me out)
    I used to fly planes when I was alot younger and just within the past 2 1/2 years, I have become active in the hobby...
    I can fly.... no problem... The issue that is at hand is I am new to the technology that is available now-a-days....
    I have had help from some wonderful people that make alot of spektrum tx vids that is from the mid part of the U.S.A.....(I just dont wanna name-drop).... but im sure you know who Im refering to....
    Again, I thank you a whole bunch for your informative vids that have helped me tremendously...

How do you feel about adding an air brake servo/switch activated pop-up panel just behind your hatch, and using an interior panel cover to keep drag and wires protected if you activate it at landing for getting the f16 to slow it down when the wheels touch down and prevent running out of druveway room....

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      You should...but since it's a BNF you will need this tool to set up the AVIAN and then just assign a channel you wan to make the setup work - Avian ESC Programmer bit.ly/3PFWmZY

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      I'm not 100% sure if the AVIAN ESC programming screen shows up on planes when you ADD the Avian ESC....but I KNOW that you can use the programming tool to set one up and then make the assignment, provided you're using a compatible SMART Rx.

    Hey brain. I wanted to share my flaperons experience on the clipped wing cub 1.2m. I also got mine to work using channel 6 and flaperons setting on transmitter. Ch6 would not respond to as3x or safe. I decided to go in the ar636A with the program cable couldn’t change wing type to flaperons. In the process killed ch 5 and 6. They will not run a servo anymore. The bind n fly receivers don’t seem to like getting messed with I’m finding out. :(

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 года назад

      yeah, I think the only way to do it is the revert the firmware back to PRE-SAFE level, then you can setup flapperons with the click of a box...only issue, I'm not 100% sure you CAN do it with all AR636B's....

    • @jeffg8672
      @jeffg8672 4 года назад

      Brian Phillips I didn’t see the value in a pnp vs bnf being usually a $20 difference. Now that it seems the receivers in bnf are locked or prioritized to that plane I can see why a bnf might interest some. Unfortunately I don’t think I can get my ch 6 back. I was so close. May get a lemon rx. Thanks for your good content.

    Hey Brian, wanted to put flaperons on my E-flite 70mm F-16. I called Horizon & the tech told me that if I wanted AS3X on the ailerons I could not used channel 6 on the receiver. That only channels 2, 3 & 4 had AS3X control. Is this correct?? If so, why would they give you the option to have individual servos for each aileron if the AR636 receiver does not support AS3X on channel 6 & no where in the manual do they say that AS3X is not supported on channel 6? I really appreciate any support that you can give on this as I want to have flaperons on my 70mm F-16. I fly off a grass runway & right now it takes forever for my F-16 to take of without flaps. (Brian, I put this message on your 80mm F-16 & then found this review. Thanks for any clarification you can help me with on this! Ron)

    ADDED SERVO CABLE W/O CUTTING AILERON CABLE: I was able to "fish" thru a new 12" servo cable thru the hull my F-16 airplane from the receiver/cockpit area to the wing/aileron opening and connect it to the wing.
    STEPS:c1st I had to cut out the ASX receiver out and velco'd back when done. ( I used X-acto knife to cut underneath the white glue). This also makes it so much easier to connect servos to receiver since it is so tight as originally installed/glued down and I could move battery back another 1/2" to help with CG.
    Then I made small hole in the wall where the original Y aileron servo wire goes from the wing in the airplane cavity. I made a hole in the wing body by using dental picks and a small X-acto knifes in the wall to in order ro make ready to "grab" new servo wire thru. NOTE: The servo wires for the Y ailerons can be pulled/moved a little bit back and forth with a little tugging etc (I watched that Brian had a tough time trying to "free' up the Y -aileron servo wires but they can be freed) Once the original Y-servos are freed/loose they make room for the "cavity".
    NOTE : You will be taking a different path thru the airplane body then the original servo line since the original servo line seems to go down 1st and then to the receiver. I followed the same path as the gear servo lines (Brian noted that he could see the gear servo lines from the aileron wind opening in his video)
    From the cockpit area, I ran a string by 1st by attaching it to the tip of a wood skewer (large toothpick!) and pushing the skewer tip from the receiver/cockpit area down the interior channel of the plane. (I darken the room and had a flashlight shine thru the wing/aileron opening to guide me). Once the tip of the skewer with the string attached was visible in the aileron/wind opening that I made, I used a long needle nose grasp tool (like Brian has in video) to grab the string and pull thru the aileron opening. I then tied the new 12" servo wire to the other end of string and continued to pull the string/servo thu the plane/hull channel (pretty open, not so bad or tight) and out thru/to the aileron to then connect to wing and connected.
    This all took about 1hr.

    NOTE: The original Y aileron connector can be tucked into the opening.
    The you can then program the new aileron like Brian does it the video. (Thanks again Brian!!)
    ***As Always Brian, love your professionally done videos and your insight/knowledge is well appreciated.

    What would I need to do to setup flaperons on my Habu SS?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 года назад +1

      It's a totally different beast. I'd start by watching my F-16 80mm - Way closer analog to what you're trying to do.
      Then if you want to do it, you can start by DEFAULTING The Rx, then just setup the plane from scratch, OR you'll lose one aileron worth of AS3X and SAFE (if you're using them).
      Good luck! Totally doable, but I would WAY more encourage inboard flaps. They would be super easy to install, and almost no work (comparably) to flapperons, and they would be 3-4 times more effective.

    Will as3x work with flaperons?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 года назад

      This is from the V1 F-16, so no, without reprogramming the Rx.
      With the V2, you can setup flapperons much more easily with AS3X and SAFE, if you wish. The AR631 is WAY easier to program from scratch, but you have to factory default the Rx before you can change it from the BNF that's loaded in it from the factory...if you got it as a BNF (vs PNP without Rx)

    Hi Brian and All, I am looking for a little help in repairing my nose wheel on my F-16 as i bent it a little bit on a hard landing. While I see there is a replacement pin (Retract Strut Pins: F-16 70mm EDF Part # EFL7822) for this, I have tried to remove the original strut/pin out but to no avail. (It is wedged in good) Does anyone know of a video or other instructions I could review/refer to for help and guidance. THANKS FOR LOOKING..

      Scott - I'd be lying if I said you'll have an easy time taking those parts apart from one another... You will have to get creative!!! I know from experience, you may have to drill it and thread a screw into it to pull it out. It's a pain, as those aluminum pieces will get practically welded together.
      As for a video, I haven't heard of anything like that. Sorry Scott!

      Roll authority is good stock, and where the Y cable splits makes a big difference for me ;) If it were up front, that would be pretty easy, but since it's not, it's just a lot more work. To all their own. I think it would be a worthy effort, if you wanted to give it a shot.

    I’m on it. I just continued to land this EDF like crap. I think at least once I flipped to SAFE on approach to see if it would help and it was still less than stellar. (Carrier Landing style, nothing smooth and gradual)
    The choice is easy- Make the Flaperon mod, or pay $50.00 for the front landing gear pin after every crummy/hard landing.
    Thanks for putting this together. I would’ve never attempted it without this video.

    As many variety of aircraft as you fly you’re still struggling with a slow flight. People often don’t like slow flight not because it’s boring but because it’s hard but not impossible to master.

      Gavstreet 13 yep high alpha landings are the way with this plane. A couple guys at my field can hardly get it on the ground when they come in fast because it has so much unnecessary lift. However when the bring it in nose high they’re only going about 15mph and have it stopped within 50 feet.

    Does SAFE still work with the flaperons?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 года назад

      Not on this plane. If you want SAFE, you will be on the NEW firmware, if you want FLAPPERONS, you will be on OLD FIRMWARE. Annoying, as annoying gets, but it is possible to have either or...I think on the AR637T you can do BOTH, simultaneously...but don't hold me to that..it's a preliminary educated guess.
      I found the Air brakes to work better than the flapperons anyway! ;)

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Hey Brian.. great vid's btw. I have been down the same journey as you regarding F16 and no flaps. Removed Y lead from Ailerons and wired direct to LH & RH ailerons channel 2 and 6. But no AS3X on channel 6. grrr... considered buying a HH programming cable to re-programme the AR636 receiver.. but rather nervous about changing the stock set up on the receiver!
      So focused on landing approach setup. Had to replace soft material retracts 3mm pins (on all 3 retracts) with 4mm piano wire which really strengthened the retracts, but if you get set up on finals in ‘high alpha mode’ you can really slow the F16 down. The battery has to be all the way back to the receiver (I use a 2 x 3S 4000 Roaring Top wired with series cable - get 5 mins flight time) which really suits this plane and now I can ‘high alpha’ this F16 onto the run way with rear wheels touching first. Getting the speed right on approach is critical. If you cannot see the underside of the F16 on approach your coming in too fast. Mastering the ‘high alpha’ removes the needs for flaps (and yes Brian I love flaps too 😊). Afterburner fitted after your Gooniac video too = awesome!
      But it has been good to join you on your F16 journey. What an EDF.. love it! Thanks Brian.
