Yes, "Spy" is one of the Super Junior members' least favorite songs. However, it's not that SuJu really hates the song, they just dread having to perform the choreography. If you notice, the choreography for "Spy" is very complicated. So they all have a very hard time remembering it, and because of that they hate to perform it off the cuff. The choreography is all about being spies, so they weave in and out and around each other, like a spy who is undercover, which makes the dance hard, especially without all the members to do it together. They have to rework and practice the choreography with a new lineup every time one or more of the members isn't there, etc. The funny thing is that almost everyone knows that SuJu hates performing "Spy," so variety show hosts and producers love to add the song into random play and 2X speed dances and try to get SuJu to perform it. However, like classic SJ, the members usually veto it and just say "pass" when that song comes on. LOL You should check out a live performance, to see just how complex the choreography is, ruclips.net/video/06qO9aloSEI/видео.html. :D Of course, "Spy" is a sexy song. LOL, when has there ever been a spy movie that wasn't sexy? ;p There are only 10 members in "Spy" because Heechul is serving in the military at this time. Heechul served in the military 2011-13 and this MV came out in 2012. :D Leeteuk enlisted a couple months after "Spy," so I don't think you will see him in the next few MVs either. And yes, these are the first few MVs were we see KangIn back after he was released from the military. KangIn served 2010-12. So he had only been back for 3 or 4 months when this MV was released.
Thank you for this info! I’ll check out their performance of SPY. I love how honest the members are about disliking it. Usually a group wouldn’t say anything. But SUJU is so genuine 😆 I love it
@@EliMarieReacts Yeah SuJu are always just themselves, they don't hide anything from anyone or pretend to be anything they're not. LOL. What you see is what you get with them.
If you like storylines, then you should watch the drama version of "Mamacita." The Drama version just focuses on the story and it will help you to understand what is happening in the MV. As you noticed, you should pay attention to the headlines on the newspaper because that tells you what is happening as well. It's really funny and classic Super Junior. They are the comedic geniuses of Kpop. Yes, Shindong's English line in "Mamacita" is unfortunately another one of SuJu's tragically funny/cringy uses of English. As you know, he says "Close your lips, shut your tongue," however, if they had a better grasp on English, they would have known that in English we would say something like, "close your lips, hold your tongue." LOL Or, they could have even said " ... stop your tongue, etc." (It's similar to the funny word choice they used in Super Junior's "Sexy Free and Single, " where they say "Sexy Free and Single and ready to, Bingo!" Which only sort of makes sense LOL. It would have made much more sense if they had said, "Sexy Free and Single and ready to mingle."" "Mingle" would have made so much more sense in the context of the song.) As you have seen, Super Junior are known for their story based MVs, their catchy choreography and their goofy fun concepts. Some of their other songs with fun storylines you should check out if you haven't already are "Motorcycle" by Super Junior-D&E; "Devil," "Magic" and "No Other" by Super Junior; and Super Junior-M's "Super Girl" and "Swing". As you can see, Siwon is playing the Sheriff. Kyuhyun is playing the "gambler," but if you watch the drama version you will see he isn't just a gambler. Sungmin was playing the owner of the bank, who was robbed. Leeteuk is playing the thief. Donghae is playing the bounty hunter. Eunhyuk is playing the bullfighter. KangIn was a fruit stand owner. (Side note: As you may know, KangIn is a stage name that means strong one, so he is known for his strength and for the fact that he is a big teddy bear. Therefore, they were playing up his being a cute, clumsy bear of a man to be extra funny in this MV.) Ryeowook was playing the barber. Shindong was playing the blacksmith and Heechul was the bartender. "Mamacita" was when Super Junior had 11 members, however, there are only 10 members in this MV. Yesung was not in "Mamacita" because he was serving in the military at this time. ("Mamacita" wasn't the last MV were you will see Sungmin in a group MV. "Mamacita" was released in September 2014. You will see Sungmin in "This is Love" and "Evanesce," which are partner songs that came out in October 2014. Sungmin got married in December 2014 and enlisted in the military in March 2015. With all the controversy surrounding Sungmin's life when he was discharged, he decided to not participate in their "Black Suit" comeback in 2017, to prevent his issues from affecting SuJu's activities. So, he has not participated in any comebacks with SuJu since then. You will also see KangIn in "This is Love" and "Evanesce," and "Devil, and "Magic," which came out in July 2015. "Magic" was the last MV that SuJu did before 7 of the members started their military service, so after their "Magic" comeback they went on a 2 year hiatus. And during this time KangIn got his second DUI and was put on hiatus. And sadly, KangIn never returned to SuJu before he decided to leave the group in 2019.) As you may be aware, Super Junior has a very big Latin fanbase and they are one of the most popular Kpop groups in Latin America. If you look at the comments on some of Super Junior's most recent videos you will see that there are almost more comments in Spanish than any other language, including Korean. SuJu started the Latin Kpop trend in 2014 with "Mamacita," but it really didn't catch on beyond that until more recently. Now, one of SuJu's recent styles of music is Latin infused Kpop, and they have been working with famous Latin artists, collaborating to combine Korean, Spanish and English to create a perfect blend of cultures. Latin America is pretty much an untapped market for Kpop, and yet, Kpop is pretty popular in Latin countries, so Super Junior has started focusing on their Latin fans by producing songs in collaboration with Latin artists and holding press tours and concerts in Latin America, specifically for their Latin fans. Once again, they are paving the way in a new direction that has never been done before until now. If you haven't already, check out "Lo Siento" Ft. Leslie Grace and "One More Time" Ft. Reik to see what I mean. SuJu know what they are doing when it comes to breaking into all different music markets. They also were the first Kpop group to ever produce songs in Mandarin for their Chinese fans and the first group to have a sub-unit that focused on the Chinese market. Super Junior has done pretty much every type of music in their career -- from hard core rock with songs like "Don't Don" to cute and funny like "Cooking Cooking" by Super Junior-H. Whatever style you are in the mood for, you can find a SuJu song that fits that genre.
Kangin was in This Is Love, Evanesce, Devil and Magic (2015) after Mamacita. Sungmin was in This Is Love and Evanesce. Kangin's second DUI was in 2016. Super Junior's long hiatus was after Magic.
I kind of love that you sing the songs, you don't ruin them, don't worry about that. We sing along too XD The thing with SPY now is that fans love it because Suju hates it. It's fun to troll them with it (variety crews do it every time they can) and they troll us back (if you haven't watch SS9' version of SPY... you'll get there XD) There's still 2 MVs with Sungmin and 4 more with Kangin
Spy song - they don't hate the song but hate performing it. They have less members now than they did in the MV and that MV has a choreo that seems dependent on the amount of members, formations, etc.
Spy is the song Elf like to use to troll SJ. It’s been an ongoing tug of war with Elf constantly voting for SJ to release a new video of the spy choreography whenever a poll comes up and with SJ blocking it every time with different tactics. Their latest move would be releasing the classical remix of spy which is currently being performed at SS9.
There's also a "drama" version of the Mamacita music video on RUclips where it is focused on the storyline. It's even more hilarious and you should check it out if you want to! I agree that Mamacita is a very catchy song. This might be kind of random, but I also loved that instrumental that played in the intro before the song started lol. As for Spy, I believe they don't like it because of the difficulty of the dance and it's probably even more complicated to do without all of the members. But I'm not entirely sure about that. However, what I AM sure of is that Spy is one of my favorite Super Junior songs! I don't see why they wouldn't like the song itself. I also don't understand why it seems like a lot of artists don't like their own songs. Apparently Taeyeon didn't like Girls' Generation's Lion Heart and Yeri didn't like Red Velvet's Rookie, but I LOVE those songs! I kind of feel guilty about loving these songs when the artists themselves don't like them, but at the same time, I love these songs so much so I keep listening to them anyways lol. But in all seriousness, I think this is why artists should have more of a say in the music they make, that way they can release music that they can truly enjoy. Anyways, thank you for making this video! I hope you are happy and healthy and I hope you are having a great week!❤️
I agree with you, I want artists and groups to have more input on their music (and choreographies too). I’m sure now GG, Red Velvet, and SUJU have more freedom in their music than they did before. Also I’ll definitely check out Mamacita drama ver 😄
Loved your reactions - thanks! "Siwon . . . ! " The words that follow for me are: tall, tanned and handsome; devoted to his Super Junior brothers and ELF; talented; kind; generous, funny - and the guy I discovered as an actor before knowing him as a member of Super Junior!
Please react to the drama version of Mamacita as well if you can.. it's such a unique concept and also so much suju type.. there are lot of funny details as well😂 Loved this reaction as well
Thanks so much for reacting to "Spy". Here's my take on it. :) Since I was a Bond fan it was actually the video that made me a fan of SuJu, and I still use the song as my ringtone! After SuJu's huge hits "Mr Simple" and "Sexy Free & Single" it ididn't do as well, I think that's why they stopped performing it after the original release, and that's why they forgot the choreography (in addition to it being a problem with lineup changes). I suspect the reason why it didn't do as well is because women are rarely Bond fans, and even though most people probably understood the visual references, I doubt that many understood the musical references: the melody is a ripoff of GET SMART, itself a Bond parody which references the Bond theme, and the brass is reminiscent of Mardi Gras music, which is a frequent setting in Bond films. I only ever heard Reyeowook say that he didn't like the song, perhaps because he didn't get the usual opportunities for high notes (only that short solo in an unusually low register instead). The style of the choreography looks a lot like Justin Timberlake. My fav part is where they almost do a striptease by taking their jackets off, esp together with that "Oooh!", more like Bond girls than Bonds, I just lose it every time! The black, white and red color scheme also reminds me of RESERVOIR DOGS. Since SuJu had become famous for wearing suits since "Sorry Sorry" this fact may have been a major reason for choosing the Bond concept. Siwon would make a serious Asian version of Bond, Kyuhyun looks a lot like Soon Tek Oh (a Korean actor) in the Bond film THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, and Shindong might be Oddjob from GOLDFINGER (played by a Japanese actor, Harold Sakata), only that he has a shotgun instead of a lethal bowler hat. The hat that Eunyhuk wears is very much like the ones Sean Connery wore in the 60s, also a brilliant touch (it's a Trilby, not a Fedora, the latter has a wider brim :)). Ironically I thought that Ryeowook would make a perfect villain, like an evil boy genius, and then he was actually made the villain in the X-Men parody VCRs in SS7! My only quibble is that the concept doesn't suit Leeteuk that well, at least not with those two hairstyles (arguably his least flattering ever). He didn't participate in SS5, which used the Spy concept for the whole, because he was in the military, but he looks great in the action concept of SS7, almost like Trinity with Siwon as Neo from THE MATRIX (in an action scene where they are all wearing black leather).
Please reaction to super Junior: “ss6 Elsa rokkugo leeteuk fancam”! This is so funny. Suju has a lot of videos with ver Elsa. In general fancam Leeteuk (short dress) funniest😂 Leeteuk makes such a chaos out there.
