Hello everyone! Whose Turn here with a video showing how to play the board game Power Grid. This is one of our favorite board games to play, and while a little on the complicated side, is also an amazing time.
In Power Grid, you play as a power company trying to expand their power grid to power more cities to earn more money. You have to purchase power plants, fuel then with the specific kind of fuel, and make connections through the cities.
It sounds easy enough, but it has a constant issue of analysis paralysis during the game as you have to figure out what is the best purchase with your very limited funds. Should you stock up on resources when they're cheap? Or buy them as you need them for more later? Do you connect 1 more cities so you can power them all, just to have no funds the next round to buy potentially better power plants? There is a ton of things that you need to keep track of in this game, and money management is key.
One of the best things of this game is the catch up mechanic on it. You go first for buying power plants, meaning you have the best chance for the better ones, but then you purchase the resources last. So you might get the best plant, but have to pay the most to power it. Likewise, you go last on connections, and when you're able to have more than one player in the city you're in then it gets expensive.
Like we've said in our review of the game, it's one of our absolute favorites and in all of top 5 games for now. Let us know in the comments if you've played it, if you like it, and if you have other ones we should check out that are like it!
Thank you for watching, and hope you enjoyed the video!

I like the German and have never played with the American one. Yes one of our players takes soooooo long to work things out. I am playing it tonight and someone is bringing the expansion map so looking forward to that.

We said we would try the German map next time, only because we've never played it on that side. How was playing with the expansion map!?

in my game there is a green wooden 1 which I read you should have on the lowest powerplant in the market. Then that one costs 1 electro. But I haven't seen it in any of these walkthroughs

That is in the "second edition" of the game. It goes on the lowest numbered power plant on the market, and makes it so it starts out the bidding at 1 electro instead of the number on the plant. It's intended to make the lowest plant more appealing, and I've only heard about it AFTER we made this video. Was a few quality of life items they added that sounds like it made the game a little more rounded.
