Yes, it's a preamp added after passive pickups and most people either don't know the difference or don't care. However series/parallel option isn't a split as in humbuckers but a simple wiring mod.
Schecter makes great basses for the money without question. But my money is on the Sire Marcus Miller V7. I have a V7 5 string and it is one of the best basses that I've ever played, regardless of price!
Keith Copeland in this price range they outsource the production, the specs. read "Country of origin: South Korea", and so they must be made by World Musical Instruments Co. or Cort or other companies, so they DO NOT make them, just grab some profit from the making, that is why Sire, Cort etc. have to my mind way better quality/price ratios -- less parties making profit
Can't argue with facts. However, another fact is, despite the profit-sharing angle, this Schecter bass--along with a similarly-impressive Stiletto Studio 4 or 5--is a superior instrument, especially for the price. Love the stock SD pups, too.
This video made me buy a Schecter Diamond-J plus 4 string. I got the Aged Natural color. No regrets buying it! coming from a 4 string Musicman Stingray Standard.
Excellent demo , bro . Not just a master player and wizard . You explained EVERY feature extremely well . You make it easy for anyone to understand . But mainly .... I now really love that bass and need to have one ! Super great job , bro .... with every video , you get an A-1 + from me .
I picked up a Schecter Diamond Omen-4 about a year ago brand new. I have to say, I'm totally impressed having heard almost nothing about Schecter in the past. I'm definitely going to look for more of their stuff in the future.
Sire V 7 Bass and Tech 21 Pedals for review? Thank you for doing the Schecter Bass, I am interesting in purchasing one in the near future after this review. Thanks again for your videos !
I just got my brand new Schecter Stiletto Extreme 4 in the See through Black yesterday... I'm freaking in LOVE! I live near Drum City Guitarland... Jason Kae took 3 days to order my bass from Schecter. Ross Lawson set it up..it plays beautifully. Still think Schecters are on top of the line.
Oh, it has an "out of phase" feature. First time I see this on a bass. It's quite seldom on guitars too. It can produce some really angry, biting, wicked sounds together with overdrive or be interesting with modulation effects. Single coils are wired in series in humbucking pickups. It generates a higher output and the thicker sound we know from humbuckers.
THANKYOU Marcelo for one of the BEST reviews on a musical instrument I ever watched and listened to!! I mean that from the heart too... Great DEMO, and DETAILED information to boot!...AWESOME review!! The only question I will ask however is HOW MUCH do they retail for? Thanks again sir! 👍😎👍
This looks PRECISELY like my Squier 1960's Jazz bass that is turquoise. I may have to pick up one of these. I love Schecter for their quality and price.
Man you just sold me on this. Schecter is one of the few companies that make a 35” scale length 5 string, left handed bass! Gonna have to order this one soon! Great review as always!
just a brief comment to fellow subscribers about my personal favorite budget priced bass , try the epiphone viola bass...beautiful & sounds like a CANNON!
Appreciate the review. Good info. I actually found it at a store and was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. Now comes the challenge of saving up enough money to buy one.
Solid review. Love the Series and Parallel options this bass has. That might be what I've always found lacking on Fender Js. Always a sucker for Active Preamps, as a Stingray guy, mainly.
Great sounding, gorgeous looking bass! If I owned one I'd install a pickup blend pan pot (where the 4 way is) and series/parallel switch instead of the out of phase push/pull option. Excellent review though!
Sire V7, matches this bass feature for feature, sounds better and is much less expensive, it's active/passive and the Sire V7 pickups sound much better than the Quarter Pounders in the Diamond J Plus.
How important is a powerful/quality backline when the sound guy would love a clean (silent) stage. How can you work and maintain the groove with a drummer? Does everyone need in-ears and personal mix?
That would be a good bass to play old school power metal with. Stuff like Omen,Liege Lord,(old)Fates Warning), Cirith Ungol,Crimson Glory and of course Iron Maiden’s 80-88 material.
Marcelo! Man, you do excellent, honest, thorough bass reviews. Excellent musicianship too! I have a Marcus Miller Sire V7. Love it. Been thinking about getting a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5.
Theres one of these at my local guitar store and its a bright classic turquoise and it sells for $799.99 Hefty price. Almost as much as an actual fender.
It would be cool for your opinion of number of strings and why? 4,5,6,7? Also it would be cool to get your opinion of the sire. Your an amazing player and we value your opinion.
Thanks for the review, I am looking for a J-style and almost bought the older passive version of the Diamond J last weekend. I like the edgy tone on it. I am just trying do decided if I should spend the extra money for the newer version, I don't thin I can go wrong either way, But there are some really nice pugrades on the new one, You made the decision a little tougher for me!
Hi Marcello, I'm looking for a bass. Many years ago I had a Fender Jazz Bass that I bought in very poor condition. Now I'm looking for a bass to learn music on and enjoy. That Schecter Diamond J Plus looks good, the Fender Player Plus Active Jazz Base, and the Sire Marcus MillerV7 or V8 look good as well. I am told I should start with a four string. Any advice? Thanks, Steve
HI I'm going to buy a bass guitar. I really like your Schecter Diamond J Plus. It sounds and looks cosmic. I'm also thinking about the Fender Player Jezz Bass (Pasiv). Can you record a video and compare these guitars please?
You should try to get MTB, not the Gibson style, the custom stuff. They have so many wood choices that could provide pretty cools sounds. Bass Mod bass would be cool review also.
I got my first Schecter back in 1980 i New York, a telecaster model. I don´t think this bass sounds better than the Sire v7, wich i own one, even this bass got the SD pickups
I just ordered one with a natural finish. Can't wait for it! Thanks for the great review:) I'm actually wondering what (if anything) you don't like about this bass except for phase switch?
ah, finally the review I've been waiting for. Thanks a lot for the great video. More Basses review please. If possible - a musicman stingray with humbucker+sigle coil setup
Do you know anywhere I can get this whether it's used or not since both Amazon and Guitar Center don't have them? I really love everything about this bass and want to pick it up somewhere.
Squier makes very nice affordable instruments especially their vintage modified and classic vibe lines. Doesn't matter what name is on the headstock if it sounds good and plays well.
Nice review-! Schecter makes some of the best stuff for the money- I love the necks on them- what is the body made of? P.S. The out of phase thing used to come on old peaveys- you can use it in the studio to imitate a baritone for octave doubling, or eq in frequencies from a plug in/ outboard to make up for the lack of power and imitate other bass sounds ( pretty involved, but interesting )
man this is an awesome review. I like all the different options creating the changing sounds. Is this your go to base overall? Compared to your Music man, I know it's a 5 string, which do you prefer?
They are so different that it's hard to say which one I prefer over the other... I like them both in different ways and for different things. This one is definitely more comfortable to travel with and to play on stage though due to the lighter weight.
While I don't have this particular bass, I love the two Schecters I have. I'm a newbie, but have played around with Fenders, Ibenze, and I just love the sound the Schecters put out. I'm mostly learning metal, with some goth'y stuff, but all Japanese music. Thanks for reviewing Schecters...I think those and the ESP (sister company) are highly underrated and underappreciated... I hope I'm wrong, just haven't seen a lot of reviews on either Company.
I've yet to be able to hold/play one, but I'd love to ! I'd love to own one, and thankfully I'm near the largest retailer of Schecter's, Drum City Guitarland in Colorado. If I ask for one, those guys will get it! How do you like it compared to other brands?
Denise Mobers Well I am not the best person to compare as I have only owned a Yamaha 174 before. However I have played a few Fender P. and I like the Ltd better. It sounds great with the pjx pickups and plays easily.
If you're just practicing at home or rehearsing with a band, its not a big deal. If it dies, just change it. If you're about to go on a tour or have a big performance coming up and you've played a lot since you last changed it, just change it ahead of time to be safe. I always have a backup bass on stage, so if something were to happen, I could switch out my bass while my tech replaces the battery for me.
What should I review next??
Hey. considering that you are saying that this is a great j bass in the range what about sire j basses?
Džiugas Jasukaitis I was gonna say the same thing. Or the new Cort GB JJ 74
I would love to hear your thoughts on composite fret boards, like the modulus q5.
Tech21 effects pedal
Sire Marcus Miller P7! Or the V7!
As a note: The SD pickups are passive, it's the EQ that makes it active. If they were active, you couldn't do a series/parallel split
Yep!
Yes, it's a preamp added after passive pickups and most people either don't know the difference or don't care. However series/parallel option isn't a split as in humbuckers but a simple wiring mod.

The Sire V7 is good when it comes to sound, but the bridge and machine heads are unacceptable on a bass in this price range
Yep - Sire are better
I agree. V7 is the best value that I've found
This was perhaps the best bass review I've seen on RUclips. Keep it up man!
I have both the Sire 7 and this very bass.......I prefer the Schecter....just cuts through the mix better. Both are worthy basses...
I own this bass! And four other Schecter basses. By far and hands down the best bang for the buck on bass the market.
hearing you bro!
This video made me buy a Schecter Diamond-J plus 4 string. I got the Aged Natural color. No regrets buying it! coming from a 4 string Musicman Stingray Standard.
Anyone else seriously pissed that these were discontinued?
Shane Pettie seriously?! Glad I bought mine three years ago
Excellent demo , bro . Not just a master player and wizard . You explained EVERY feature extremely well . You make it easy for anyone to understand . But mainly .... I now really love that bass and need to have one ! Super great job , bro .... with every video , you get an A-1 + from me .

Great comment about playing down and up strokes contrasted to one direction only...
Sire V 7 Bass and Tech 21 Pedals for review? Thank you for doing the Schecter Bass, I am interesting in purchasing one in the near future after this review. Thanks again for your videos !

Thanks for all the tutorials. Question, how this bass compared vs Sires bass jazz from Marcus Miller?
A lot of people have been asking that... I haven't tried a Sire yet, but let me see if I can get my hands on one for a review!
just a brief comment to fellow subscribers about my personal favorite budget priced bass , try the epiphone viola bass...beautiful & sounds like a CANNON!
man that pickup selector is just what I need for my bass. I always go 100% for all my pickup blends.
Appreciate the review. Good info. I actually found it at a store and was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. Now comes the challenge of saving up enough money to buy one.
Hmm. Possibly the next bass... (I love the way Schecter's necks feel, 4 and 5 string.)
Solid review. Love the Series and Parallel options this bass has. That might be what I've always found lacking on Fender Js. Always a sucker for Active Preamps, as a Stingray guy, mainly.
Those are not true single coils, right? If they were, there would be hum when you play on either the bridge pickup alone or the neck pickup alone.
I have a V7 while its sound is good, the hardware is incredibly shitty
How important is a powerful/quality backline when the sound guy would love a clean (silent) stage. How can you work and maintain the groove with a drummer? Does everyone need in-ears and personal mix?
I have the 5 String version of this bass and I use the volume phase out feature on the verses of Lenny Kravitz “Fly Away”. Good review!
Also that thin tone you’re not too fond of would actually work for old school power metal sounding stuff. It’d be like a 2nd guitar.
That would be a good bass to play old school power metal with. Stuff like Omen,Liege Lord,(old)Fates Warning), Cirith Ungol,Crimson Glory and of course Iron Maiden’s 80-88 material.
Thanks for the down-down vs. down-up strokes demo 😀
Marcelo! Man, you do excellent, honest, thorough bass reviews. Excellent musicianship too! I have a Marcus Miller Sire V7. Love it. Been thinking about getting a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5.
Theres one of these at my local guitar store and its a bright classic turquoise and it sells for $799.99
Hefty price. Almost as much as an actual fender.
Love how when you play with a pick you’re playing Slither by Velvet Revolver
It would be awesome if you do some more lessons: Gig stuff but also dubble thumbing
It would be cool for your opinion of number of strings and why? 4,5,6,7?
Also it would be cool to get your opinion of the sire. Your an amazing player and we value your opinion.

HI
I'm going to buy a bass guitar.
I really like your Schecter Diamond J Plus. It sounds and looks cosmic. I'm also thinking about the Fender Player Jezz Bass (Pasiv).
Can you record a video and compare these guitars please?
That series setting sounds great, easily my favorite
Just my luck. I thought about getting one then see they were discontinued! 😤
I look at you and for some reason, all i can think if is nuno bettencourt!!! lol. From what i remember of him, he is very similar in looks.
I was impressed with Marcus Miller's blast. What you played was very attractive, could you give me a lecture on it?
Marc, I own this bass and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! I’m looking forward to progressing through the Bass Beginners Mastery Course with it...
Awesome to hear Robert!! Let me know how you do with it!
“this bass”
Sucks
What do you think one of these bass are worth used today?
Sire V7 is the answer
John Bell it is
Muy muy buen video hermano!! Se puede apreciar muy bien el sonido del bajo! Tengo 2 inquietudes.. ah, finally the review I've been waiting for. Thanks a lot for the great video. More Basses review please. If possible - a musicman stingray with humbucker+sigle coil setup
I would say, review what you think would be good for us. You are the expert. Sometime what we want is not what we need !
I think the push/pull is an active/passive cut
What do you think about the tuners and bridge? Good or bad?
I love you shecter diamond j plus
Hmmm is it as good as the marcus miller V7?
Thanks Marcelo,I have the schector honey satin studio 4,,I love ir.
Do you know anywhere I can get this whether it's used or not since both Amazon and Guitar Center don't have them? I really love everything about this bass and want to pick it up somewhere.
Great review man! , very nice bass, and loved that Vedder story ! Subscribed
for the price?the fender squire vintage modified (don't laugh) jazz bass...$399.00!
Frank Juster I've got and I love it
Squier makes very nice affordable instruments especially their vintage modified and classic vibe lines. Doesn't matter what name is on the headstock if it sounds good and plays well.
Yeah man great basses
I would really love to hear your thoughts on a VR series Fbass.
Schecter bass are brutal 🖖🤘👍💪
Been looking for one of this, i cannot find one 😞
Nice review-! Schecter makes some of the best stuff for the money- I love the necks on them- what is the body made of?
P.S. The out of phase thing used to come on old peaveys- you can use it in the studio to imitate a baritone for octave doubling, or eq in frequencies from a plug in/ outboard to make up for the lack of power and imitate other bass sounds ( pretty involved, but interesting )
loving the reviews man!
I know this is old video but will you use it to second bass?
That bass vs sire Marcus Miller?
Review the Sire Marcus Miller bass collection. The best basses out for the price.
Schecter actually stared out modifying fenders (like Charvel, ESP, and Jackson) in the early 80's.
man this is an awesome review. I like all the different options creating the changing sounds. Is this your go to base overall? Compared to your Music man, I know it's a 5 string, which do you prefer?

Denise Mobers I love my ESP LTD FB4.
I like ibenze too
Great job. Thanks. Cheers !
Gorgeous bass.
Amazing sound. What strings were used in this video?
Any issue with the string action thing?
You are an excellent teacher. Thank you.
It's my "go to" bass.........love it.
Test Sire V7 :D
if the bridge pickup is humbucker,I even want it more.
Even though I'm not a bass player.
What about Sire Marcus Miller's?
I want play maximum metal. Can this bass play maximum metal?
Thanks Marcelo ✌️🎸
what are your thoughs about the fact that this bass use a 18 volts battery and is not active passive system?
If you're just practicing at home or rehearsing with a band, its not a big deal. If it dies, just change it. If you're about to go on a tour or have a big performance coming up and you've played a lot since you last changed it, just change it ahead of time to be safe.
I always have a backup bass on stage, so if something were to happen, I could switch out my bass while my tech replaces the battery for me.
The Bass Wizard what brand of batteries is the best for active basses in your opinion and why?
Is it available as 5 string ?
Good review very helpful
Marc how does the neck feel is it thicker or thinner ,
I like it
It's definitely on the thin side like most jazz basses!
thanks Marc some of the old Fenders have a beefy neck
Nice and balanced sound :) What kind of strings do you prefer?
Vitaly Alyokhin I'm fairly sure he plays DR Hi-Beams
Correct! :)
sire v3 5 string please
Good review!
For everyone disappointed this bass was discontinued
Cort has released a jazz bass that is even better.
The seymour Duncans are humbuckers. So The works Just like your sr5
ok this bass vs sire v7?
Out of phase sounds like a Rickenbacker and also a hollow body bass.
Still havent found one💯🎸🖤🤠
Nikki sixx has one he posts it on Instagram
Get a Sandberg Electra tt4 ja bass
Why palm mute? The range of the note you’re trying to showcase is….well muted 😣
So, what you're saying is that the EQ is 18 volts of nothing?
best bass for the money is squier vintage modified
