      Because the game implied that "the anger might KILL her". It's pretty easy to see that many people wouldn't want Ethan to be alone. Yes, taking her anger may not be a great choice, but it's a choice that implies that she wouldn't die of the anger.

      you'd ordinarily be right... you gotta let people go through grief, push them through the 5 stages and let the emotions cycle through, but the game implied that charlotte was finna clock all the way out. i agree that emotions shouldn't be repressed but at a certain point there's a line that gets crossed yk? it isn't any healthier to let her die due to what's essentially inability to cope versus taking away her anger. situation was just entirely unfortunate rs

Her heart was in the right place, but snatching someone’s feelings without their consent and not giving them the chance to work through it is wrong. Regardless of the risk that would have been posed by letting them work through it. She was grieving just as much as Alex was. Why take away her ability to do that?

  • @im.rihito
    @im.rihito 3 года назад +545

    In my eyes, the option to take Charlotte's pain away was actually more detrimental than good in the long run. When you struggle through something in life, you go through the worst, but usually come out stronger in the end. If people weren't able to go through struggles in life, it would of course be a utopia, but they also wouldn't be able to grow as people. Since Alex now took away that pain away from Charlotte, it wouldn't let her grow emotionally in how to deal with her own emotions in the future but additionally with Ethan's emotion as he is only a kid, who knows nothing. Without that growth, she wouldn't be the greatest mom to Ethan and be the best version of herself. I know this game isn't that deep with lore and such, but if I were to look at this through Alex's POV, I would have let her sort it out in her head, but secretly check on her to make sure she's ok since Alex's power of empathy lets her do that.

      as someone who also picked taking her anger on the first playthrough, i think it's just a curveball that most people would take. like they technically introduced a new power which a player would think is the best thing to use in the situation especially since alex said before making the decision "the anger could kill her", when in reality it wasn't in hindsight. i'm not sure if that's why he picked that, but i think that might be why that decision was so split in percentages.

Taking that experience away from them they won’t get over that pain that they were feeling. This could also effect the way Alex feels about people, I think letting things take their natural course is probably a better option than flat out removing an emotion.

    So, I watched Jazzy's playthrough of this game and this is what I commented on her video about that Charlotte scene: I think it's best to leave her with her anger, because grief is a process and she should feel everything she's feeling to get through it. That's the only way out. It's like in the beginning trying to talk Ryan off that ledge - I noticed that most people offered forgiveness on behalf of Gabe. You CANNOT offer forgiveness on behalf of someone else, and also Ryan didn't need Alex's forgiveness either. He needed to forgive HIMSELF, that was the only way forward. Same situation with Charlotte. I know what she's feeling is f'd up, it's uncomfortable, but she needs to be trusted to feel what she's feeling and see it through. Taking people's emotions is not the answer because feeling emotions is what helps us release what we're going through or identify something we need to change. Powerful scene.

But in the actual moment, some players get caught up on the idea of Charlotte's anger killing her, or her possibly hurting herself or Ethan. It did cross my mind when I played this scene, but her character seems to be good at keeping things together despite what she's feeling. She held everything in right up until that moment and what we saw was a culmination of the anger and grief she's been hiding being released. 56:44 I love this scene and even as I was watching people go through this scene, I knew that I would leave Charlotte and let her keep her anger. As stated before, feelings MATTER. Especially since they can drive your actions. I disliked how everyone was calling Charlotte crazy for the things she said. Charlotte is harboring a lot of grief and was seemingly trying to do it alone, which caused her to outburst, and tell Alex she wanted to leave with Gabe. Anger is a part of Grief. So is depression. Her claims while "crazy" make sense with what she's going through. And with what Berlin said, she needs to go through the emotions to accept Gabe's passing.

  • @MLamar0612
    @MLamar0612 2 года назад +2

    Yeah.... It's clear that Charlotte is sort of an "empty shell" with Alex taking away an entire emotion from her. Charlotte didn't even know what she was feeling when looking at the entire room and wondering what had happened. She also couldn't recall her memories associated with her anger.
    Alex can't fix everything, even with her amazing abilities. Sometimes the "easy" way out isn't the healthy/beneficial way out💯

    As far as the Alex & Charlotte situation @46:00, I feel like in this situation, Alex was kinda overstepping boundaries, only because she didn't know Charlotte like that to keep pressing her like that, though, people really suffer in silence like this, and Charlotte obviously didnt have anyone to speak to, so I would imagine she would be grateful in hindsight

    Charlotte was trying to hold all together for Ethan because she didn’t want him feeling even more guilty for Gabe’s death though she loves her son she resents him for it. You definitely can’t tell your child that they’re the reason someone’s dead to their face without traumatizing them for life. So she shoved it all down for everyone’s sake. Charlotte seeing Alex is a daily reminder that Gabe is gone what was originally supposed to be a new beginning to Gabe was unfortunately his ending.

Alex knows what is on a person's mind before they are even ready to put them into words and discuss with a person they trust... it is best to let them process things on their own and at their own pace, regardless of the outcome.
