LOVE LOVE LOVE your video. I really appreciate that you guys kept this so real and objective. Definitely gave me information I had no idea about. Thank you so much for sharing this. You guys are lovely and your pictures are amazing. THANK YOU!
I love watching you two. We are in the states and planning to head to Germany and Austria in the fall. I really like that you share your opinions about not only the views and destinations, but also the prices.
Yayyyy! So happy to see you guys finally escaping the UK 🥳. Castle looks amazing and thank you for the tips on how to get a good angle of it, I hope we get to visit it one day 🥰
You should hike up to tegelberg turn left and hike down straight to the bridge and castle, on these slopes downwards you have plenty of photospots seeing the castle from birdseye perspective ...yes, that valley under the bridge was closed for maintenance but reopened
@@Blac9Games true, just checked the hiking app and it appears as closed again :( wanted to bring some tourists there in 3 weeks, they wanted some easy and some advanced ferrata, so tegelberg is ideal for that and on the way down wanted to show them the castle, now i need to change plans
Thanks for the nice video. If you don't mind, what is the name of the lake and the park where Jake took a swim? Look like a nice spot to visit on my next trip to the castle. (been there once before)
Lovely video footage of the Castle 🏰 👏🏻 . I visited a few years ago when the bridge was open. You still managed to get some awesome shots from that viewpoint up the top.
Hahaha I now know the reason you sometimes carry your back pack in your front 😉 handy camera rest and chocolate spread snack bar🤣🤣 loved this week's episode. That lake was magical with all those dragon flies❤️
It’s ironic because the king who built it was arrested for spending too much money building it but now it brings in so much money from visitors! It’s only 1/3 finished on the inside!
Ooh, I think this is the area where the two young women were attacked this week. 😢 they should have more security around these hikes. Like rangers or something.
Yes, we think this is the location he took them to. What a horrific event to read about. There are normally a lot of other tourist on the path to the "secret" viewpoint (that's how we found it) so I was shocked someone managed to do that to them.
The castle is totally beautiful 😍 and the walk is amazing 🤩 That’s crap you can’t take photos :( Aww that’s awful the view points are closed :( aww bless you both :) The lake is lovely 🥰 Naughty on the chocolate spread :) The lake is stunning 😍 Thank you for making a beautiful vlog ♥️
Thank you for continuing to watch our videos! We’re so excited as they’re going to become more fun and adventurous again shortly now that we are in Italy!
Thank you for this video and your great tips as well. You made many great points regarding access and tourists that we are questioning if we want to go through all that especially since we are in our 70's. We are walkers and could go the way you did from the free car park but it may just be one thing we just look at your photos. We were planning to go in May 2024 which is generally been before the tourist season begins in most of Europe but this may be the exception?
I think it is a beautiful castle but as a German I prefer and recommend other castles like castle Eltz or castle Hohenzollern(Hohenzollern goes back to 13th century but got modernized in its current state as it was a ruin a few decades before Neuschwanstein was built, so not that old as it is now but I prefer the design) over Neuschwanstein and I say that as a Bavarian, so there is no bias in my words. Anyone who wants to visit a castle with a long history, visit castle Eltz. It is owned by the same family since the 12th century. Neuschwanstein is just not a real historical German castle in my eyes, its the dream of a king from the industrial ages and not even 200 years old. In comparison my old school I went to is a castle built in the 14th century, so already several times older. Germany has so many old and historical places with rich history that I would recommend visiting more historical places that where actual architectural representations of their time and not just a replica.
To far, to expensive is teal A hype, many others castle are more beautiful with no restriction, But the walk is beautiful and for free, is it worth it coming from so far? No!
2024 update: I just spent two days there. You can totally skip the interior tour, it's about maximizing profit and hiding the fascinating history of the place. Spend that money instead on a walking tour of the exterior.
Our family of 5 ( age 5-73) toured Neuschwanstein in July 2023. It's a waste of time and money. Our tour only included 6 rooms, and we were done in 20 minutes. It's only famous because Walt Disney visited it decades ago, and hijacked the silhouette as his corporate logo. It has no historical significance and was never fully furnished. It's the first McMansion vacation home, the product of Ludwig II's delusional mind. Instead, tour Hohenschwangau, near the carpark in Schwangau. Ludwig actually lived there during his childhood. Then drive to Meersburg, on Lake Constance/Bodensee. The castle there is the oldest continuously occupied Medieval castle in Germany. The exterior isn't as picturesque as Neuschwanstein, but it's 100% The Real Deal.
Thank you for this comment, it proves our thoughts and shows that we personally would have also seen it as a waste of time and money! We were more than happy with seeing it outside. Will have the check the other you mentioned if we ever go back!
Saving the odd 17 euro means that we could stretch this once in a lifetime trip to 365 days driving all over Europe and into Asia :) it’s called budgeting 🤭
You don’t have to budget so much for a week long holiday 😊 But this is a full year trip and I’ve been travelling full time for 9 years. So I budget so I can continue this lifestyle which I love without having to work full time 😉 😊
It's unbelievable you were too cheap and stingy to pay to go inside. Neuschwantstein is truly unique and you were just 36 Euros away for both of you to experience that. You could have spent a bit less on soap and deodorant like most of you smelly van people do and saved up. You missed so much including any understanding of this castle, the marvel of it's construction, the borderline insanity and genius of King Ludwig, the magnificent interiors, the incredible views, the sheer wastefeful extravagance, the stunning detail, the conservation efforts and the skills of those involved and so much more. Everyone viewing this video should ignore you and part with the very small amount of money that offsets the maintenance. There are lots of people but there's a f'cking good reason why! Massive external cladding works have been completed over the past few years which is why it looks so new and artificial. Neuschwantstein is not an old building and has never pretended to be so why would you expect anything else? FFS even the much older Hohenschwangau Castle lower down appears relatively plain and modern. Everyone knows about the viewing points so you added nothing. They're just a bonus. It's very definitely worth visiting not just once but twice because that first visit only gives you a glimpse into the mind of it's builder, neither of you could possibly conceive something like this. A second visit, after you've learned it's history, adds so much more. It's a great shame more extensive tours aren't easily obtainable.
We prefer the great outdoors than inside places. Plus, because of budgeting we’ve been on the road for 9 entire years full time and only have to work a few hours a week so we can really enjoy every moment of our lives 😊 Very worth it I’d say! But thanks for the info!
@@OurWildHorizons It would have been worth it to validate your lifestyle in such a perfect way, not that you need it but to reflect on. You have a simple van and are happy, Ludwig spent his fortune, and more, and lost his life over his obsession with Neuschwanstein before it was completed chasing a dream. It's the antithesis of your lives and I think that's what should have made it compelling to see inside but hey, you can always go back. I never planned to visit although I'd always wanted to see this particular castle at some point. It was only by chance we were close after taking a different route back from Tuscanny. I just couldn't face driving back through the most boring roads in France again so went through Austria instead of Switzerland. I spent a lot of years working for a royal family that make ours look like paupers. I was treated almost like family but soon learned I would never want their money and lifestyle. I knew that already but experiencing it so closely just added something extra that in a way was priceless.

You guys are my ‘go to’ for advice on the area. Another really useful video. Thanks 👍
Our pleasure!
Thank you for all the info, it looks amazing! We're going in two weeks and can't wait!
Hope you have an amazing time!
The view of the lake at 4:45 is magnificent 'o)
So good!

Actually it is currently closed again, been there last weekend.
Just an Info for potential visitors ;)

Hello. Nice video! Did you need tickets to come up close you the castle?
No, you only need tickets to go inside 😃
how long can you stay inside can you visit without guide , without timed reserve entries?
I’ve no idea as we didn’t go inside
What is the address or the coordinates for the free car park?
thanks for sharing.
Very interesting...thanks for sharing this video!
Thanks for watching 😃
I LOVE THE SOUND OF THIS ENCHANTED STORY ON YOUR BACK GROUND HOW IS IT CALLED ???

Yeah we had a great time here still! Would’ve loved to see the bridge properly though 😀
My bucket list
Hope you make the visit one day! 😀
It should be noted that 2 American tourists were pushed off that cliff last year. They are closed to the public for a reason.
You are all too young to remember Chitty Chitty Bang Bang , good views of the Castle from that film
Been there 3 times now I think
I watched that many times growing up, my mum showed me all the classics and that was one of the best!
Great video! Thanks so much. :))
Thank you for watching!
Can’t believe you did not take the tour inside! 😕
We didn’t have any interest in seeing the inside and most people seem to say it isn’t worth it anyway, we saw so many other amazing things!
Does anybody know if the view points are open?
They’ve finished the works now 😀
Hahaha I now know the reason you sometimes carry your back pack in your front 😉 handy camera rest and chocolate spread snack bar🤣🤣 loved this week's episode. That lake was magical with all those dragon flies❤️
That castle looked so pristine! It's hard to believe its age. They must spend thousands on it's up keep.
It’s ironic because the king who built it was arrested for spending too much money building it but now it brings in so much money from visitors! It’s only 1/3 finished on the inside!
I’d love to go see a castle, so thank you for the up close view of this one. I really enjoy your videos :)

A very honest review of the castle and some very naught behaviour!!! 🤣
Is it that naughty if everyone is doing it? 😅
@@OurWildHorizons yes, can be.
2 Americans were pushed off that cliff last year. A view isn’t worth it.
I wish they make the interior of the castle a use like make the interior into a luxury hotel, that would make people like the castle more
Ooh yeah that would be much better!
Why should they ruin an important part of the Bavarian history and turn it into a hotel?!

How cool to have a school in a castle! Yeah I reckon we’ll visit some proper ones next time 😀
Hmm, it's kind of disappointing that the exterior is so modern looking up close like that.

Hi Kermit
Hi internet troll who has absolutely no life
I'm going to guess that Jake is a Libra and Beth is a Capricorn.
Not quite, Jake is a Virgo/Libra cusp and Beth is a fully fledged Sagittarius!
