She makes it look so easy and pain free. I’m on day 7 of my partial knee replacement and my knee is so stiff. I’ve been walking around and trying to flex my knee when I walk but it’s just so stiff
It’s 3 weeks since my total knee replacement, and my knee is so stiff as well. My knee healed so fast and scar tissue followed, which makes my knee feel like it’s incased in a block of cement, it’s not flexing. It looks like I have to get a knee manipulation, and better aggressive therapy. Very stressful.
I had bilateral knee (at the same time) replacement at San Francis Hospital in Puyallup, Wa. I spent 10 days in their care. I am very grateful that I received the best treatment possible including physical therapy.
I just finished my second knee replacement. Week 6 now walking w a cane unless I get shakey ( lumbar Hc.) Up to 93 on pulling my knee kack w PT training still. After all the severe pain is home its worth it. I could barely walk before surgery. I get hate your new knee's I now have 2. Yep ! They click zometimes, different joints were put in. I had two total knee replacements then 20 some years later had to have two total knee revisions since everything wore out. 4 weeks after surgery now and walking without a cane. I am up to 105 on pulling the knee back. And yes, there IS severe pain after surgery
So excited to share- My PT has me on the same exact exercise program I'm in my 4th-wk. from 2-total knee replacements. It's truly effective & I'm doing great- just a little more work on straightening my knee & I'm good to go- Thank you for sharing this easy to follow video for other's to achieve their goals for a better pain free life- ;)
So many great videos on how to get that artificial knee working as good maybe better than the one you had.. science has come a long way in the past twenty years
Great video! Clear and easy to follow. I would suggest practising these exercises well before your knee replacement surgery so that you are familiar with them and know what you are expected to do. This knowledge and practice will enhance your post-op recovery.
This is very helpful and very well done. However, some of it refers to hip replacements rather than knee replacement. I would also like to see some reference to those of us who have had bilateral single stage replacements,
I just had a full knee replacement in Canada, and I as well have gone through pure hell in regards to pain, so much hard to complete my excersices , I am week three and have 95 degrees in my knee bend,
@@AmeriMission it’s good, I found a stationary bike helps huge. Keep seat high and keep lowering as you get the knee to bend. I did not use any painkillers, it took 3 months before I noticed it better than before surgery, now a year later it’s working great, it does make grinding noises when I bend it, freaks out wife
This is the last video I'l watch, so many folks report how well its going. The replacement is the 19th op on my knee, I'd had septic arthritis, nearly lost my leg and absolutely everything has scar tissue on it in the knee area, I'm at about 105 degrees after 4 months and I'm told I'm making amazing progress. Looking at how badly I am doing in comparison gets me down even though I know mine is different. It normally makes me smile to see others doing well but there is so much pain still its getting difficult. I can walk for miles, have been doing stairs properly since week 4 and not used walking aids since week 3 but, oh boy! the pain has been off the charts. I'm only posting this for others who have also had even more complicated replacements, it's ok, keep going and keep your spirits up. Remember, we all have different situations and it's ok if you are doing differerntly as long as you are doing the work. To those who are doing better than I, good luck going forward and keep up the good work, I know from previous operations I've had, like ACL reconstructions, that reading others doing well is inspiring. I'll sign off with this, I'm struggling but I'm winning, I'm upset but working and, I'm able to walk on sand, mud, grass without it giving way, I walked 12 miles last week in one day and today I cycled on my static cycle till my muscles didn't work..not my joint ;-)
For most people how fast you recover is up to you. Strecthing and exercise is the only way you will get back on your feet again and get rid of the pain. I know I had replacement surgery. If your physical therepist tells you to take it easy then you better get a different one.
For the doctors, its all about extracting money from the patients. When I had my knee replacement, I slept all night. Physical Therapy began the first morning and again at night for 2-3 days. Once you leave the hospital, you begin go to Physical therapy everyday for the next 30 days except for the weekend. I reached my goal in 2 weeks. I wanted to leave therapy because i met my goal, but they chewed me out and coerced me to keep coming. The woman pressured me to finish the last 2 weeks of PT. She insisted I still needed to go. (Why would a person still need to attend PT when they already met their goal? ) I'll tell you why. Because if you don't keep coming for the 30 days, they lose big money. Its all about MONEY.
Hello all new knee replacements ! Doing afollow up on how you are doing. I see from my last statements I made some wording errors. Oooops....! Drugs gotta have them post- op. Not taking any at " all" now not even a Tyenol. Yes , I have been sore but I get that joint swinging. Movement of new joint does that w some swelling. Here it is Feb. 2020, 13th. I feel good walking w a my own two legs. Love it no pain sure I get sore, steps...boy keep going. This lady talking is very correct, remember everbody heals differently....go at your best pace to wellness. We are all different our energy levels drop. Don' t give in to it I was tempted. Happy Valentines day and know double knees are pulling for you.💜🕊
This me a better understanding What to spect I'm scheduled for my knee with placement April 19th 2021. I think mine's gonna last 30 years Samsung retired don't work anymore. I had to retire early Age 61 Because of my knee I used to be a custodian at the University Can I do desk work Cause I have a development disability . Now I'm almost 65. I just don't like it did governor shut everything down where I couldn't get my surgery until now.
It cracks me up how they perfect this unique new language to soften the blow of getting knee replacement surgery. First of all, you don't get a day or two - to rest and recover from the surgery & anesthesia. They practically haul your buttes straight to Physical therapy after a couple hours sleep. I think PT is in the morning and night .... maybe even afternoon. At least it seemed like it. They tend to give you Tramadol (a placebo) for pain. Good luck. You can forget about an opiate ... that's only for doctors, nurses and rich people. Then around 2-3 days in, you get taken to a room to sit in a chair that looks like a toilet seat and the nurse washes you. Everywhere! So make sure you lose weight before surgery. If you think it would help, watch a knee replacement surgery on You Tube. Its riveting.
Tramadol is a powerful painkiller but I won’t take it as I get spaced out with it. I have paracetamol and Codeine to sleep . During the day I take paracetamol on its own for pain. Something non codeine and non nonsaids would be great. I am day 5 post op. I can manage stairs, sit down and get out of a chair, walk to the loo and back . I use ice pack on my knee 4 times a day. Next trip out is for Doppler test on my leg on day 10.
Susie, This was not my experience at all. I just had knee replacement surgery and it was the best experience ever. I do have oxycodone for pain which is a narcotic. (I am not rich, and I am not a doctor). You have to be very careful not to become addicted. I went home a couple hours after my surgery. I showered on my own the very next day. Physical therapy right away is essential because you are in a race against scar tissue so if you don’t want to have a limp for the rest of your life, you have to do the exercises. They are painful but necessary
@@deannajevas5042: Thank you for your very sensible comment. I am having TKR next week, after years of bone-on-bone pain so am very happy to have it done. They told me I'll be going home as well the day of the operation and my first rehab is the next day at 3PM. The motto at my doctor's office is, "Keep life in motion!"
@@lindaeads7536 There’s a video on RUclips I believe it’s called the 10 most common mistakes people make with total knee replacement surgery, read it it’s true. I still have pain today I overdid it I was on my feet all day and now my muscles in my legs are so sore it’s crazy you have to really listen to everything your doctor says and do the exercises as painful as they are you have to do them, That’s my advice to you
Appreciate seeing how these exercises should be performed however the chair she is sitting in is way to close to the floor. The whole chair is collapsing down to about a foot off the floor. You have to be seated in a chair that's 2 to 4 inches higher than an average dining room chair or you will have terrible pain in the knee. Actress obviously hasn't had surgery and makes it look easy. Swelling in the knee wouldn't allow this movement from this type of chair.
Most protocol is ambulation/walking the day of surgery and exercises the next day. The amount and/or "intensity" of exercises vary according to the individual. But the key is not to remain immobile since it's essentially "a race against scar tissue". (As scar tissue begins forming as soon as the surgery is completed, since that is the body's natural response.) Hope this helps. 😊
My rehab post knee replacement was pure hell - there's no reason to put someone through this horrific pain - I need to have another replacement done, but I'm scared to death about going through this again.
+Susan Marcotte hi Susan, i'm Susan, also. i just had total k.r. done on Mr 16th. pure hell, because my surgery involved putting reebar on top and bottom of the implant, because i didnt have enough bone to connect to. my surgery took over 3 hours. the most painful thing i have ever done and now, i need my other one done, but honestly, I am cringing at the thought... Guess its time for a follow-up.. i developed a staph infection, which came from the hosp. where i had the t.k.r. done. I went to my local ER at Sacred Heart Hospital and within four hours I was opened back up to cut out the staph. The dr. thinks he got it all out of the fatty tissue and felt that it had not gone beyond it... Hopefully! I am on a heavy duty course of IV antibiotics, Vancamycin, because I am allergic to so many antibiotics. Everybody reading this please pray for me. thank you
Susan Marcotte: I had both knees done 5 years apart because it took me 5 years to get up the courage to repeat the horribly painful experience of the first knee replacement. Now several years past, I am happy I did the second one, but I did tell my surgeon that I was happy I wasn't an elephant because NO WAY could I have done this a third or fourth time. Take your time. You'll know when you are ready to do the second knee.
I had my Franciscanhealth knee replacement sugary 3 months ago in Morresville IN and am still in constant pain & cannot sleep at all. If I had been informed of the pain involved I would have NEVER have had the operation. If the pain continues in the next months I will consider amputation of the leg to get rid of the pain. Life is not worth it if you are ALWAYS in pain.
Thank you for your concern. The knee movement and range is great. I still have some pain but not great pain. I just thought I would be pain free but now I think it will always have some pain at times. God bless.
+Bob Dillow ....Bob I am so sorry to hear that you still are having knee pain after your replacement surgery. I too, THINK that my knee pain will disappear if I have knee replacement. My problem is that I can not find a doctor willing to take a chance on doing the surgery. You see, I have extreme knock-knees, and I suffer from MS. My knees are so crooked that I might be in worse shape after the replacement than I am right now. There is no guarantee that surgery will be successful on ANY knee. Also, it would be impossible for me to rehabilitate as I can not lift my legs because of muscle atrophy. My MS and knee deformity have doomed me to pain. But after the experience that you're going through, I may just accept my fake and consider my blessings. Although very slowly, I can still walk. I keep being told that I might be in a wheelchair if I have the knee surgery. In a wheelchair with brand new knees is real cute, ain't it! I hope you are not still thinking about amputating your leg. You thinking about doing that tells me the level of your pain was damn near unbearable!!! You are not alone. There are those of us who can relate to what you're going through. Getting old is a b***h! We have to consider the alternatives, try to focus on our blessings and stay strong.
Hang in there I had both knees replaced at the same time. I had pain off and on for about four months after my surgery. I wanted amputation and had regrets. Now here it is nine months later and I'm pain free. I'm told that it could take almost a year before you're healed. I was trying to rush myself. It's gonna get better.
The person in the video obviously didn't have TKR. This video is informative, but it didn't mention all the pain that is involved with TKR. And how a lot of people have trouble sleeping after TKR, due to not being able to get comfortable. This video makes it look way too easy when indeed the pain and suffering is excruciating.
For sure this woman has NOT had knee replacement surgery - NO INCISIONS OR SCARS! I've had both replaced - 5 years apart. Unable to take any pain pills. NOT fun. Extremely painful. NO WAY could I have done these exercises with that degree of mobility until I was at least a couple of months out. This video would have been SO MUCH BETTER if a REAL patient had been used. AND the HIP exercises should have been left out completely for knee replacement recovery.
At 18 min. this video is talking about the "hip"? So please explain is this one or two surgeries...another thing, I've seen knee surgeries with a fine line down the center of the knee cap, and this person doesn't have that...are there different knee procedures, sorry this is my first video I see...
Yea i think they made a mistake there. Knee replacements don't have the hip flexion precaution. Only hip replacements do. Also this person doesnt have a scar because they have just used an actor for demonstration purposes it seems
He seemed to switch at the end. Yes there is a long scar down the centre as you’ve seen. I had my surgery a while ago but still found these helpful but not too aggressive. 👍
There are total knee replacements where you will have a scar. Then there is arthroscopic (minimally invasive) surgery where only a small cut is made so the scar is much less noticeable and depending on what needs to be corrected the scar may even be on the side of your knee instead of on front.
No it is not , it is for knee surgery. He said hip surgery for a couple of exercises but he probably meant to say knee (or they work for both) because after my mom had knee surgery they gave us a paper with these EXACT SAME EXERCISES on it.
katy kayy you correct. I am asking myself question. The person is tights you only use loose pants even one more size. Your knee is swollen for more than 4 weeks with a physical therapist at homen then after Your doctor see you he will send to a physical therapist. I am in more than 2 months 2 weeks and my swollen knee is lest swollen but still not complete and in less pain not bedding the leg. I have 5 week more to go. Do you exercises at home my doctor told sometime swollen still for one year and some people still experience pain. Good luck to you.
I understand, I'm 57 female from Australia, I finally asked my sister when my relationship was strained, but thankfully did, she stayed with me the first week, it was so helpful. In America care might be different. Advice I can give, you need ice packs, shower & toilet chairs, pre-made meals, help with monitoring you showering, for first week, and help with meals.
Sorry to hear that for you, as I have both knees bone on bone & am going in this month to talk with the Dr. about having one knee replaced, I do not want to have to do this at all, I have heard too many bad stories about surgeries failing and such so I am really scared to get this done, also I am 74 so I think my age may be a factor.
TY, but the book is about knee arthritis, not knee replacements. The video is tagged for knee replacements. There is a huge difference. I know. Both my knees were replaced in Oct, and neither hip is involved, nor do the phys therapists concern themselves with them. Therefore, it appears this guy has either tagged his video incorrectly or he has chosen to show rehabbing two completely different joints - KNEES and HIPS!
Is it just me, or is everyone needing to lose excess weight? Doctors should be honest and frank with their patients, and explain cause-and-effect, "you carry extra weight for 20-30 years and parts wear out", especially load-bearing parts. Moderation in all things ... oh hell why bother. No one wants to think or reason.
I had knee replacement and really appreciated this exercises thanks

Susan Marcotte: I had both knees done 5 years apart because it took me 5 years to get up the courage to repeat the horribly painful experience of the first knee replacement. Now several years past, I am happy I did the second one, but I did tell my surgeon that I was happy I wasn't an elephant because NO WAY could I have done this a third or fourth time. Take your time. You'll know when you are ready to do the second knee.
Recommended exercise in this video: Ankle pumps, quad sets, hamestrings sets, short arc quads, gluteal squeezes, straight leg raise, heel slide + knee flexion, knee extension (stretching)

The title of this video say for knee replacement but he keeps saying hip replacement!! Which is this? Very confusing!
I’m only 19 with a left knee replacement I’m not doing to well...
I hope you have recovered more in these past 3 months.
Bob, how are you doing now with your knee recovery?

Hang in there
I had both knees replaced at the same time. I had pain off and on for about four months after my surgery. I wanted amputation and had regrets. Now here it is nine months later and I'm pain free. I'm told that it could take almost a year before you're healed. I was trying to rush myself. It's gonna get better.
Where is her scar?????
I noticed the same thing. Looks like she's acting the part and not an actual surgical patient.
You mention "hip precautions" in the part about inspecting the wound.
Total mistake on video's part. No hip precautions needed with KNEE replacement, only with HIP replacements.

These people obviously didn't exerercise much before surgery and now they are playing catch up with a severe handicap.
Have you had knee replacement surgery? Share your experience at www.patientshare.io/p/knee-replacement-surgery
My Therapists say twice a day for my exercises I am two weeks out of surgery and people are thinking I am at four weeks
At 17.24 PT mentions "hip surgery"....
MartinFrederick Graafland that confuses me to.
This would be more believable if the person actually HAD knee replacement surgery, there is no scaring whats so ever!
Kat Justice *whatsoever* is one word brah.
Gary Barnfield w⚡️
exactly what I was going to say!
Too many of these videos are acted out by someone that has not had surgery so not very reliable and offer false picture of surgery recovery.
Sorry on some words below this phone talks for me sometimes....grrrrrrr.u get my message below. ⬇️⬇️
Is this a real patient? Because it would help to know what sort of expectations one should have during the first, second, third week and so on.

AND the HIP exercises should have been left out completely for knee replacement recovery.
veena sterling doesn't look like ut. Check the scarless knees
is that a wig?
very nicely done..

At 18 min. this video is talking about the "hip"?
THIS IS ACTUALLY FOR HIP SURGERY. TITLE SAYS IT'SFOR KNEESURGERY!!!
My advise was for Total knee replacement surgery
No it is not , it is for knee surgery. He said hip surgery for a couple of exercises but he probably meant to say knee (or they work for both) because after my mom had knee surgery they gave us a paper with these EXACT SAME EXERCISES on it.
Why don’t any of these videos ever show someone that actually had the surgery? Just curious!
katy kayy you correct.
They don't want to scare people...
You're absolutely right. The model has no scar.

3000 ankle pumps a day. seriously????
Knee replacement is scary, I live alone. No help.
I am in same boat
I understand, I'm 57 female from Australia, I finally asked my sister when my relationship was strained, but thankfully did, she stayed with me the first week, it was so helpful. In America care might be different. Advice I can give, you need ice packs, shower & toilet chairs, pre-made meals, help with monitoring you showering, for first week, and help with meals.
Don't use a cushioned chair!!!!!!!
I hate my new knee!

Who says she has done knee replacement
not me !!
Knee replacement robotic surgery

To Linda.... Ha ha
Recovery is hard and that is an actor not someone who is actually recovering from knee replacement surgery!!!
Oh my that's such a poor made chair, she may as well be on the floor. Not good, too low, too soft.
WHY is this guy concerned about hip precautions with knee replacement surgeries? This is quite confusing pathetic

Typical arrogant asshole
