With mine the Anko one I give it 2.30 on one side then flip it and 1.30 on the other and mine is toasted very nice even better than the electric one and the filling is hot too. My old Microwave is around 850 Watts so I don't have to reduce power, and it still works well considering it is nearly 30 years old used every day.
branch? You didn't cook the 1st lone enough or on high enough of a power setting for the plate to get hot enough to singe the bread. What you did do with the lower heat settings was basically dehydrate the bread, which is a good way to toast bread in a microwave without marking it.
