I see that you're more of a V:TM channel, and I'm more of a M:As guy, so I was wondering whether I should sub :D (I don't mind the vampire content, on the contrary, but my main drive is mage, hence the question. Please don't see it as a demand or smth, make content that you enjoy).
Thank you for the question, and don't worry I'm happy you want to see more! I will preliminarily be doing 3 videos, counting this one, as I intend to run this alongside the Onyx Path kickstarter for Technocracy: Reloaded, which is an overhaul of Technocracy rules and its own corebook, basically. But if the response remains as positive as it's been for this video, I'll definitely consider putting out more Mage content :D
Thank you for your encouraging words! I'm actually ashamed because for this specifically I was lazy and looked at the 1d4chan explanation for Marauders, Nephandi and Threat Null. I cut Threat Null since it seemed very specific (and rarely mentioned in anything else I was reading), but I should have done my homework on the Nephandi better.
I love Mage so much. It’s the only line that has true gray morality where no side is really the “right” one and whoever wins the Ascension War will make as many things horrible as they make things glorious.
I know right? In some regards, I absolutely side with the Technocracy. When I first encountered Mage, it was the 3rd edition and I really couldn't decide on any of the Traditions because they didn't appeal to me I was around 15 at the time), but all the Conventions catch my attention now. :P I think I'm just a Technocrat by heart, but then they're also conducting some pretty horrible shit so I agree with you, it really is a battle between different gray moralities.

I've always felt that Mage was the best of the Classic World of Darkness. It has always been my favorite. I'd love to see more videos on this game line.
It was my personal favorite too but I never managed to get a game going in my group. I think they were intimidated by the daunting magic system. The open-endedness of creating your own Effects based on your character's knowledge of the spheres is a double edged sword: there's so much freedom and potential but it's also more mentally demanding.
i will never forget the first day i laid hands on the hard cover book...i flipped thru the first several pages and became enthralled with it...i immediately purchased it and dove straight into it's lore and factions...i was completely blown away and as i type this i am looking over lovingly at my first and second edition copies that sit on my shelf...unfortunately i was surrounded by minds unable to grasp it's implications and meaning so it had remained a private treasure...then i came across this vid and jumped in to hear what you had to say...and you nailed it bro...can't wait for more vids....peace
So happy to hear about your memories with this game, and that I was able capture some of its amazing spark. I really love Mage too, it's an amazing setting!
Definitely a great introduction to Mage! I hope that you decide to make faction videos lore videos consistently for Mage. There's so many Traditions and so many different ideas to explore in Mage that it should be a lot of great content! I hope you can do a video about the Cult of Ecstasy soon. One of their founders was instrumental in gathering the nine traditions and making an alliance during the Sorcerer's Crusade era, so I feel like they're one of the traditions it would make sense to start with.

My only problem with this explanation is that you posted it right *after* I gave out Mage introduction material to a group of prospective players! Seriously, this is spot-on and brilliantly succinct.
@@ThePrimogen My players opted for Changeling instead, for now. They're definitely into Mage, but they felt like they needed more escapism for the time being.
I could see a shy librarian being an interesting character concept for an Order of Hermes mage. They awakened after reading an entire book of magical mathematics and understanding all of it without training.
I know the Art in these books is astounding, I remember using color pencils to color them before adult coloring was a thing. My P.E. coach in school saw me coloring once before health class and flipped through the book finding a illustration of a built, shaved headed, cyborg guy and requested to color it. I let him color it one of the days we had a health film to watch. Yeah I have heard a lot of things about Revised Edition. Back when I first encountered Mage, I read Revised (I was 15 or so at the time) and while I liked the setting, I don't think I found a single one of the Traditions interesting. Now I kind of know why :P
@@ThePrimogen I'd say of Revised that it did a nice job continuing the exploration of the real-world diversity of magickal cultures that Brucato started. Maybe it even improved on that in some ways. Some of the metaplot developments weren't even so bad in and of themselves. What hurt it, to my mind, was the fact that the Revised changes were imposed from outside, based on the perceptions of the marketing people, rather than by the internal logic of setting or story.
Well I see where the idea of achieving "CHIM" in The Elder Scrolls came from. CHIM is the final stage of the Psijic Endeavor, which can only be achieved by viewing the Tower, which encompasses the universe, while keeping one's own individuality in its presence.[UL 5] Failing to keep one's individuality in the presence of the Tower will result in the erasure of its viewer from the universe, an occurrence known as a "Zero Sum."[UL 6] Once CHIM is achieved, people experience a state in which time is bent both inward and outward into "a shape that is always new" as well as an incomprehensible sense of the Godhead. One who achieves CHIM is able to observe the Tower without fear and reside within it.[UL 2]
Yeboi! Love mage, recently started on it my storyteller is pretty amazing! Looking forward to the series if you are doing one (And don't worry I make the mage the awakening mistake a LOT... They are both MTA haha)

But if the response continues to be as positive as it's been so far, I wouldn't mind deep-diving even more into Mage :D
It's extremely difficult to distill Mage down into a 15 minute video... but you did it! How many dots do you have in the Time sphere? I can't help but wonder what Mage 5th edition will be like. We Know V5 has the hunger dice and it's reasonable to assume Werewolf 5 will have rage dice. Will Mage 5 have paradox dice? Will we roll a "paradox check" instead of a rouse check? And will Paradox Interactive be ok with the "bad" thing in the game sharing their name?
Thank you! Yeah it was a bit of a struggle getting as much in as I managed, and I had to cut some corners, but I'm glad I managed to give enough space to explaining magic, which I think is the hardest part of this setting to be honest. M5 will definitely be interesting; I think the fact that we live in a time of "Fake News" is going to play big into it; I mean, the world Kojima predicted in MGS2 is already here, but worse. :P
Mage is my third favorite after VTM, and WTA. I know it would be a huge undertaking in terms of having to adapt it, but I'd love a mage single-player computer RPG in the lines of VTMB. Same with WTA (which would probably be far easier to adapt. I know we're getting Earthblood as a WTA game...but I prefer games where you can create your own character).
Of all the game lines in WoD, Mage probably intrigues me the most. I’ve not played a proper game yet, but I’ve flipped through the lore and it sounds bloody insane. Currently I’ve got no time on my hands to start up a game, but with people leaving DnD in droves and my LGS willing to help me find a group, I’m hoping it’s not gonna be as hard as I expected
This is fantastic! I’m really new to the world of darkness and I picked up VTM V5 books and getting into those, but I’m a huge fan of Mage and Werewolf lore and the alike. Do you think we will be getting newer source books for these too or should I try to get my hands on the old ones? Sorry to be a bother.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thank you for stopping by! Right now there is a Kickstarter for Technocracy: Reloaded, which I believe will be the essential sourcebook to playing Technocrats. I think it's highly unlikely there will be a 5th edition of Mage anytime soon, Werewolf is scheduled for 2021 after all, so I think it's a safe bet to go for the M20 books. I have heard mixed things about Revised, 2nd edition seems very popular, but I think most anything after 1st edition keep things roughly the same; 1st edition didn't paint the Technocracy in a very positive light at all.
I got Mage 20th anniversary edition for free last year, just because it was free, & have only now started to get into it because I have possible players. This helped me so much!
