I started my game development journey 2 years ago. I'm still just messing around with projects and joining small jams. I feel frustrated when looking back, but I forget how far I've come. You've made me realize that there's no better time to get into game development than now.
This video serves as an intermission before I start to transition to a new style of content I want to try out bringing, potentially, weekly videos. I'm posting a lot of stuff to do with it over on my twitter so be sure to head over and leave a follow : ) twitter.com/BarjiYT
Grapple really look like a good and fun game to play, you were right, work on something you like and it will look good. Keep up the good work, you've gained a french viewer
Awesome! Cool to see how your game dev skills developed as well as your art style. Tri-to-win seems like a pretty fun game too. Here's to 2 more years! 🍻
I watched the video My mind: alright lets just close the tab and go back to doing homework my body: lets just download that grapple game he was talking about, don't worry we'll be alright. cool video, I subscribed
Happy 2 years! It's very inspiring to watch other devs and their journies in videos such as these I must say, it's incredible to see where you started and where you are now :) Though, I gotta ask, Chicken Slapper V2 coming when? And I expect that voice actor from the video to feature in it ;D
I have been interested in programming for many years now, almost 2 years ago now I started programming, a year ago I wanted to make a game and this video pushed me to design a level. Thank you
I loved grapple so much, hacked level by grappling to a tree behind me and go way beyond level so early tough, its so interesting that everything has a collider so I could easily move off the (intended) map xD
I love it! You just inspired me to try to make a game in one month. I mean - I have done that before, but I think it is time to try something new, something I am not so comfrotable with... Maybe 3d? :D
As a person then all he knows in programming is if statements and variables, this video inspired me a lot thanks bro i hope you will arrive to the top 🙏
You've inspired me, but not in game development ways. Basically, i have been toying with learning music production for a while, and its something I want to get into, but never really knew how to get started, so i gave up. Lately, ive been slapping sort of songs together, and sharing them ironically with my friends, and ive been told I need to keep going at it. Thats when i found your video randomly recommended to me, i took a look, and hey, if it worked for you, maybe it'll work for me. *I wanna play grapple now. it looks fun*
I started 2 months ago. The first game i made was just a remake of a tutorial of snake. It for some reason just stopped working saying the files were corrupt. So then I made flappy bird 3D this time saying to myself that I’m not using tutorials and I did it without them! I even made 5 backups but then they all said they were corrupt because I attached them to the same files which stopped working 🤦. Now I’m working on a piano key guessing game which is working fine! I didn’t make any backups yet so I’m kinda begging for it to stop working again lol
That’s dual wielded a fellow game dev youtuber. He made a video around the same time with me in and out a Union Jack behind me so I thought I’d return the favour - he’s from the Netherlands
Bro i have a serious question. I like making games, but a lot of people say I shouldn't choose this field because I can't make money from it. my question is can i make money by making a game?
I started 1 year ago but i have some personal problems and im driving bus to my shool and i was learning english too with programing and i started qith roblox so there wad lot of complications but i just must say that i have birthday after 3 days
you know playing 5 or so hours a day of playing games seems fun at the time, but it is not at all productive, some people realise this whereas others (like me) had to have some people knock some sense into you and I can say not playing games is far, far more productive than playing games and it is just better for your health in general and your liveliness, productivity and so many areas of your life can start improving.
About your terrible 2D platformer. I‘ve been making games in GMS2 for 3 months. And now I’m making a terrible 2D platformer rogue lite with procedural generation. Let’s see how it goes. A good idea is all it takes to get started. And although it isn’t a finished idea yet, it is enough to get started. So let’s see how it goes. I know mr scope creep is knocking on my door, but GMS2 makes it ez Bois. So let’s see how it goes (fingers crossed well). The key is to balance GDev on other stuff so the scope doesn’t burn you out. I’m not in too deep yet, and I’m trying not get attached to the game until my MVP gets positive reaction, so luckily restarting shouldn’t affect me too much yet, so time to make and test, before I’ve taken 6 months of my time making a game that might be a.) too big or b.) bad. A good sign is a retweet account retweeted my initial pitch so I’ve already gotten people interested in the idea.

Amazing job in 2 years! Love the "becoming a game developer in 22 minutes XD" Keep it up!
I just started my game dev journey a month ago. It's motivating to see this kind of videos remembering that we all start somewhere. !

Thanks For the Inspiration:). I also wanted to make games I will start trying again.
You have inspired me to start game development! I’ve been working on learning the basics and I’ve started my first ever game, wish me luck!
It did more than inspire me! I even started to make my own games now :D
I loved grapple so much, hacked level by grappling to a tree behind me and go way beyond level so early tough, its so interesting that everything has a collider so I could easily move off the (intended) map xD
This was VERY inspiring! Thanks 👍🏾

Can you make a tutorial / Video on how you made try to win? The one at 5:15
This video definitely inspired more than just one person 😃
0:17 kurzgesagt sticker, nice
Lol, I could really relate to your experience of just starting to code
Your video inspired me to become a game dev and now I'm learning Godot
I made a space invaders type of game where stuff comes at you that you need to avoid, and I failed
I’m taking that course right now
no worry. when i finished my 3000 lines project when i was still beginner i realized the project was full of if statement and variables
Honestly i'm surprised you got all that done in 2 years. should be proud.
I'm just curious, why the dutch flag at 1:16?
That’s dual wielded a fellow game dev youtuber. He made a video around the same time with me in and out a Union Jack behind me so I thought I’d return the favour - he’s from the Netherlands
@@barj Ah cool! Thanks for replying
@@barj hi barji how are u
Great video! Love seeing your journey and what you've been able to achieve over those 2 years. Also grapple looks sick😲

I really want to start game developing and I don’t know where to start since I’m also a little young and I was just wondering what I could to to start
We all started from nothing to something!! Gain knowledge on game development the more games we make :)

How old where you when you started?

really? You coded your game with just if statements and variables? Not even for loop just for fun? But seriously, good job. keep it up.
