I own both the FT-817 and FT-100D. In my opinion, both radios are junk. I bought the FT-817 new when it first came out, used it briefly, put it in storage for many years without batteries, and when I pull it back out then it lasted barely a month before the power output went to near zero. These units have a history of blowing the PA, so I replaced it with a fresh one from Yaesu with no joy. The FT-100D (also purchased new) shows high SWR when running SSB in the HF bands. There are mods to fix this, but I have to ask why Yaesu appears to release radios before they are fully tested in the field. I don’t ever plan to buy another Yaesu radio ever again. I have a couple of Icom radios that I really like, and a Lab599 TX-500 that I absolutely love.
Nice setup!
