    I’m from the South, we were on the trifecta… Polo, Tommy, Nautica. But my generation mentality was different. We loved Black people, so if your man wasn’t fly.. he didn’t need to rob nobody, we would all rotate gear so he had something to wear to represent the friendgroup properly. Now my old brothers / cousin generation was a lil wilder. Starter Jackets especially was getting people hit up. Always thought that shxt was stupid. We could all have one if we pool our shxt together as a squad

    Okay y'all mean Spanglish as far as in the hip hop culture and rap. Because Spanglish has been around since the 30s or 40s when Puerto Ricans would speak it back then because they didn't know much English Just as Spanglish was used in the west/southwest for Mexicans out there and the Cubans in Miami. So this whole spanglish thing has been around Longer than hip hop itself. No disrespect to anyone

I just wanna say good interview bro but now that the world got to hear from a Brownsville Lo Life let's keep it fair by hearing from a CROWN HEIGHTS Lo Life where LO Life's was originally started not in Manhattan 42 st. Crazy my boy vic-lo is saying half of the things he been saying lately!! LO - Life's was straight Fashion Rebell's, Robin Hoods it had nothing to do with hip hop and we never worship the designer RALPH LAUREN at no time back in the day like these new dudes is doing nowadays crazy.. let's keep the communication going if you don't mind. Mecca crazy saying Ralph Lauren owes a check. I get it and yes Lo Lives marketed the brand for “free” but Hoffa right, lot of clothes were racked up, long security KOd, others got stripped, during those times Lo Lives were considered well dressed thugs, some thought of them as Decepts dressed fly. Ralph wasn’t associating with that and wouldn’t, especially back then. Its easier to acknowledge now as people are older times changed etc but just like Timberland, these companies didn’t want the association with thugs or urban communities even though they made lot of $$$ off of them. But either way, Polo was going to be successful with or without Lo Lifes n same with Timbs. So I respect Mecca opinion but definitely agree with Hoff on this one. Acknowledgement is HUGE considering all that background noise history. And at end of day, there’s nothing like ‘Lo!

    I thought the movie microphone check ended the debate. I mean there’s actual pioneers who were there speaking on this. Let it go! Black American culture created hip hop. There were others around but no one knew they weren’t black which means they were blending in with Black Americans! 💯✌🏾

      It’s just a big captious semantic argument of creation versus development though. Yeah ok people who looked like me started it at the beginning, so what? It looked reeeeallll different then at the beginning than what it would become, and by the time it evolved to how we come to know it? Well shit by that time Puerto Ricans was most definitely involved
      This whole argument only seems to matter to people like Tariq who wanna claim ownership for something he wasn’t even alive for, while dismissing our Puerto Rican brothers & sisters for the sake of some FBA supremacy

      The so-called pioneers don't agree with each other about the formation of hip-hop. Caz would say one thing, then in another video say something contrary, depending on who the interviewer is.

      @@joojoobaw Tariq is goofy, he does this to keep his fan base, as he is dividing black Americans from black immigrants.
      You don't know where he's going to go next. He started selling pimp books, to black consciousness and Pan-Africanism, to this FBA crap.

      I just love Lord Jamar’s involvement in this. By the FBA/ADOS standard, Lord Jamar ain’t shit. He’s Guyanese and he’s from New York- he’s not valid according to FBA/ADOS but he simps for this cause. It’s comical.

      They did steal clothes but they also purchased a ton as well. And their influence inspired people to buy Polo. So there is a cultural impact. For instance, they brought up Japan. The Japanese are mostly buying and trading clothes. I got into Polo because of Thirstin’s influence and I’m no thief. Ralph recognized that and included Thirstin in a Polo campaign, Polo documentary, brought him to events.

      @@toneriggz So the clothes you worked for, bought, paid for and didn't steal was robbed or stolen from you, you would want them to be recognized and rewarded? They said they robbed people, their words not mine.

      @toneriggz 2 месяца назад

      @@melvinjohnson2218 it doesn’t matter what I think. Ralph Lauren himself already acknowledged Thirstin. It’s done. Whether he should’ve done it or not, makes no difference, he already did it. Whatever money he lost from boosting, he more than made up for it from Hip Hop heads buying Polo. As well as the boosters themselves. A lot of the OG Lo Lifes are dudes in their 50s and 60s now. They’re not boosting anymore. They probably haven’t boosted in years. Stick Up kids come in all shapes and forms. The Lo Lifes were primarily stealing from stores. They robbed people too but a lot of non Lo Lifes did that as well.

      That's the thing about HIP HOP. Where you sit, how you think and what's your environment will project how you embrace HIP HOP. It's a culture, good, bad and indifferent.
