      @@diamond_rd well hes at least morally bankrupt for his actions. like leaking unsubstantiated rumors about nbc wanting carson gone before his contract ended, which ultimately forced him out the door. lying to letterman about his interest in the job and listening to what execs what were telling him to use that as foothold to get in. and then of course forcing conan out the door by demanding legal action if nbc didnt do something with him while his contract wasnt up once he had promised to give the slot up. then theres the rumors of him literally hiding in closets to listen to nbc execs and paying money to people to get info about the nbc executives wanted. those last ones are just rumors as i said tho. and we cant hold those against him.

    I saw this when it first aired. My room mate and I tuned in in the middle of it, and we just sat there dumbfounded. All I could figure was that Conan was being cancelled and decided to go out in an blaze of don't-give-a-shit defiance. It's a classic and I'm so glad you guys uploaded this.

      @@BlackWave54 Please learn history. I was a kid at the time and I remember they said pretty much the same about kids back then, can't sit still, no patience, short attention span etc. The difference now is that adults (so called) act that way too.

      @@unfortunatebeam No, the difference now is that everyone has a phone in their face, kids and adults. Kids are much easier to keep quiet these days because little to no effort is required to entertain them. Adults these days are much harder to please because they also have phones, but think they've seen everything (online), so real life isn't interesting enough for them.

    this was a LEGENDARY taping. the irony is that kids shows come on during the day. but this episode was going to come on late at night when there supposed to be sleep. brilliant. i bechu all of them are going to remember that day. this is why conan is the best. NOBODY has ever done something like this.

    Oh my God... I remember this. I watched this one live in 1997. I was still in High School (I was about 15... 37 now). I have not seen it in over 20 years. I love this one... Damn, I wish my mom was still alive to see this!!

      I was 14 at the time, and watched it when it first aired lol. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I would stay up late behind my parents back to watch Conan lol.

    My god-- I finally found it. This was the first episode of Late Night I ever watched. I remember seeing the parade of sick exotic birds and feeling seen comedically for the first time. I had no idea it who Conan was, but eventually re-discovered it again.

    I’m so happy this was finally uploaded. I remember when this originally aired. This was during that time on Late Night where the network was threatening to pull the plug on the show every week. Conan and the writers just got more willing to try anything because they just wanted to have fun on TV. I liked the novelty and originality but it was honestly a disaster. There were so many moments when the kids got antsy and they had to pull out distractions to keep them interested. I can tell a lot of those moments are edited out. Now when I tell people he did this, few find it hard to believe.

    I was the same age as many of those kids in the audience at that time. Now most of us are in our thirties. To be fair I would sneak out into the living room to watch late night talk shows, and Conan was definitely my favorite. 🤫

      Douglas Jorgensen him being on another show is a relevant, Dave is a member of kids in the hall and the entire idea of a talk show with an audience of children as an idea they would have written the schedule about.
