  • Meal-must-ia, is a community kitchen initiative in Afghanistan, and is making a significant impact in the wake of extreme food insecurity. Meal-must-ia is combating hunger and building resilient communities through integrated support systems while stimulating local economic development. The initiative is also creating jobs for women, who make up 75% of the workforce, and promoting gender equality and economic independence. After the earthquake in Herat, these kitchens played a crucial role in providing over 193,000 nutritious hot meals to displaced families. These community-level informal social safety nets eradicate hunger and are hubs of social interaction for women. Meal-must-ia, through a bottom-up localised approach, is creating a social entrepreneurial ecosystem, to ensure that no one sleeps hungry. The initiative is implemented by UNDP in partnership with Care Afghanistan. Watch and share this inspiring video to support Meal-must-ia!
