Yo you’re that girl who sang the star spangled banner in 2018. You had a great voice then and it’s absolutely wild how much better you’ve gotten in 6 years. Keep going, this is incredible!!

Wow a VERY POWERFUL SONG, with an incredible backstory. Malea you did phenomenal on this. The whole world needs to hear this message today, especially young people.
Imagine the 1960s, race riots. JFK Shot Dead. RFK Shot Dead. Malcolm X Shot Dead. Dr Martin Luther King shot dead. In particular, the MLK and RFK assassinations affected Elvis Presley beyond repair and pushed him into action.
There were MANY ROADBLOCKS getting this song to the public square. Elvis was a HUGE proponent of the civil rights movement, ACTIVELY fighting for the rights of black musicians TO BE CREDITED AND PAID for their creations. AND, maybe even more importantly, if that's possible, went as far as INSISTING that black musicians WERE RESPECTED as he was AND would be let in the SAME ENTRANCES AND EXITS as he was and all the other white people, as egregation was still affecting many black Americans in America. Elvis went a LONG WAY to putting the final nail in the coffin of segregation down south.
That's BIG. NBC executives said NO. Elvis' manager Tom Parker said NO. Sponsors and advertisers over at NBC who were supporting this TV special said NO, and that they would sue Elvis if he sang it. NOONE wanted to touch the subject of racism and human unkindness, but Elvis.
In the end, Elvis won and got his chance, so he placed the song AT THE END of his show, right where they wanted him to finish with a Christmas song. Elvis had already agreed to the Christmas song. He was a deeply religious man, and would spread the Word daily. Soon as Elvis heard this song, realizing it captured all of his feelings, he changed his mind on the Christmas song, and placed THIS SONG, If I Can Dream at the end of his TV speacial, the grand finale.
Everyone was pissed. Except for Elvis. He changed the world. When it mattered, when IT REALLY MATTERED, Elvis did big things to bring people together. Typically he did these things behind the scenes, he never asked for praise for any of his generous or social deeds, which were MANY. But THIS TIME... for the first time he wanted to lend his voice PUBLICLY, because of all the hate and division he witnessed from his childhood, to that very moment in time in 1968.
The nation was in mourning and fighting. Elvis saw a vision of peace and inclusion that very, very few other people were seeing at the time (or even TODAY). We are in NEED of his voice and vision TODAY. Thank you for spreading his amazing message to the world Malea!!!!
