Is it just me or when Chinese members sing in their language they are much bolder and confidence but when they sing in korean language suddenly turns into cuteness and kinda shaky
Its understandable since Korean isn’t their first / native language, they all did a great job either way though
im with you. like xia yan, she was so good in ywy, but cant do that much in gp999. but i think its good considering she sung it in korean. also i think if youre going for a kpop group, you should really learn korean. especially when the winner group is not a korean-japanese group like izone. they might just a kpop girl that partly promote at japanese and chinese (maybe).

I have no idea what the hell happened to Yaning. if you check her Weibo, she was all cutesy but then she looked different in a video wearing a white shirt and in her concert which is what she looks like now. She doesn't look or act the same at all..
@@gwennvy i guess it’s because in ywy2 she was talented but doesn’t have much screen time or attention and was eliminated early in the show, so she became eager to make herself stand out this time? Like she lowkey changed so much, other trainees in ywy2 even have praised her for being kind.
The funny thing is how ywy focused on friendship and teamwork while mnet tries to make their series seem more competitive and tense. Like sometimes a the camera will focus on a girl who is simply just watching a performance and it’ll be evil edited to look like she’s looking down at the performance or upset. Like could you imagine if you were just focusing your full attention to a performance to be polite to the others and a camera pans in your face and makes you seem like you’re salty af 😭
Edit: I like both series it’s just an observation I made. I’m proud of everyone who made it in the finals and I’m looking forward to seeing how their career progresses 🥰
what i noticed about chinese survival shows is that it's very lighthearted, it always that everyone is just friends with each other, the competition is high but still lighthearted, i watched ywy, chuang and sdc, and all are just fun.

The reason why it was so enjoyable too was because even though the competitive aspect was there you start to grow attached to the bonds and friendships made on the show and it made you root for the girls even more. Girls planet is still a really good show but they really need to chill out with some of the evil editing lol.

I followed Youth With You 2 and Xia Yan was one of my faves. Her vocal range is really good (I'm in love with her voice!!!)
She was Yan Xia in ywy2. On her audition, she sang, and all the mentors praised her. I remember her saying that she's a newbie i think, or that she hasnt really properly trained, so apart from her vocals, no one really expected anything. But when Lisa asked her to dance she killed it and everyone was surprised. They said she was like a rough diamond. She never rapped there tho, and her image was different. She looks fierce here. So i was really surprised when she showed up on gp999.

FUN FACT: Cai Bing was also in ywy2 but she wasn't a participant. She did the demo, u know the vid that the trainees use as a guide to learn choreo and their parts, for the song "No company", she was the center.

I was right to expect a high level from the YWY/2 batch. The training they got was pretty top-notch, and I'm glad they get to showcase the improvement here.
Considering the fact that Mnet actually told each girl what their demo stage performance would be plus having to sing in a totally different language that they hardly have much knowledge on this is actually not strange. They were all very good on ywy because they were comfortable. Not saying they weren't comfortable on gp999 but i feel like when the episodes first aired their talents on gp999 were not properly showcased

Apparently 999 chose the audition song for the girls. I think YWY2 gave the girls more chance to be themselves and to perform the way they want.
If only the trainees have their freedom to choose their song then we would have seen a better first stages.

Tbh, I noticed a very obvious autotune too in some YWY performances.
Mnet smooth out and compress all performance(filtering the echo and other white noise and basically playing the audio that the mentors hear in their earphones) in general for maintaining a high audio quality but they leave in all the mistakes that the participants made during the performance instead of correcting them for the viewers to be able to judge the trainees for their performance. Like if someone has an unstable vocal performance or some voice cracks or being completely pitchy, they're going to leave it in for us to be able judge correctly and also understand the mentors feedback. Honestly this is a much better system compared to YWY who post produce the performances to the extreme which is very pointless bcoz it hides the actual capabilities of the participants.
@@blairwrelos1891 I agree, the YWY performances felt too edited. I believe that some trainees really where skilled, but the performances didn't feel real.
it's very selective. sometimes they put autotune on some girls, some don't (especially if it's for drama. if one girl cracked, they'd even show and repeat it with different shots)

zhang luofei kinda look like an ethereal princess with light hair but her black hair made her look so badass omg (I've never watched ywy before)
the fact that Wen Zhe, sang that Chinese Jazz songs, it's just need a less amount of power, so she can always nailed it. but when she performed Helicopter, the song was intense, it needs a full amount of power to generate the song properly. and she also singing Seung Hee's part, which is a high range main vocalist, you need more than a stable voice to reach a high range pitch, like hers. and more of this Chinese trainees was good of doing ballad and jazz, so, when it comes to the song which need to use power and stamina, they somehow catching their breaths...the only Chinese here that who can produce a safe KPOP performance was Chia Yi, which came from the KPOP girl group FANATICS.

Wow i was right. I'm a big fan of ywy, seeing roada xu in girls planet makes me happy, hope for the best for her
The biggest difference (apart from autotune) is their level of comfort singing in their own language vs singing in a foreign language they don't speak + not being able to choose their song. In PD48 they gave Japanese songs to AKB girls, but in GP999 they gave Korean songs to everyone.

I think they actually were singing live in YWY (maybe they had background vocals or their voices were edited later), because during the show one girl was caught not singing during chorus when others did. Another one was critisized for not singing stably. And the another one was praised for using proper breathing technique. They mostly had chosen better/easier songs so it counts too

I was rooting for Wen Zhe (Shirley), Xi Ziyin (Roada), and Xia Yan back in ywy2. I really loved them there. They (and Doah too hehe) were actually the reason why I decided to watch gp999. :) I really hope at least one of them (if not all) will debut.

I strongly recommend to watch ywy 2 it’s my favorite survival show by far !
The motto of ywy 2 is “We don’t define girls so we don’t define girl groups”. There are trainees who doesn’t « fit » the ideal idol image (feminine or cute, with higher tones expected) so each one of them is very unique and was free to show her true colors (we already saw in gp999 that chinese trainees have a lot of personality). Ywy don’t want to change the girls but they help them to be who they should be so diet was optional and they let them wear outfits they are comfortable with (for exemple some girls wore a short instead of a skirt for the theme song performance). They also had more freedom since they were allowed to film vlogs in the dorms. The mentors are great, we can see that they care for the girls, they have good interactions with them while teaching and have closer relationships (other than just sitting to watch and judge).
There is no evil editing and everyone gets along so well so they created a lighthearted atmosphere where they were all proud of each other’s growth. A girl said in the last eps “It’s not my first time spending time with so many other trainees but this is my first time feeling like this”. They were a family, no wonder everyone was crying when the show came to an end.
The stage decorations, cinematography, lightning and editing are so much better than in korean shows and I found the performances better too ! It was so emotional to follow their journey and I’ll remember this show for a long time. They all came out of it as stronger people without harsh psychological damage like many other idol programs.

shaking/xie keyin said that!!!! she was so genuine when she said that considering it's true that she spend with 2 programs with a lot of trainees harsh competition and discrimination finally she was able to know and find people that she will consider family since she has been lonely since her high school and university days since her father doesn't want her to be an actress and an art student because it's not a great status and it's easy to graduate she left home and never came back until she got the results that she wanted but despite graduating top of her class her family never went to visit her in uni

I watched ywy2 a year ago think? And I just watched gp999, and literally I was always like “why do I suddenly know this girl adn this girl but I’ve never seen any spoilers for gp before??” Literally just remembered they’re from ywy2 from this vid 💀 they were all super memorable too wth
From what I've seen, the problem is not the vocals (they can deffo sing well) but the fact they're struggling to do complicated choreo while singing live

I find that mnet is sometimes selective in whose vocals get polished
Mnet smooth out and compress all performance(filtering the echo and other white noise and basically playing the audio that the mentors hear in their earphones) in general for maintaining a high audio quality but they leave in all the mistakes that the participants made during the performance instead of correcting them for the viewers to be able to judge the trainees for their performance. Like if someone has an unstable vocal performance or some voice cracks or being completely pitchy, they're going to leave it in for us to be able judge correctly and also understand the mentors feedback. It isn't selective but rather the participants who didn't really make any mistakes, their overall sound just gets enhanced due to vocals being compressed (vocals sound much more centered and clearer) which is a plus for them but for participants who messed up it's not going to hide the mistake nor correct their pitch or anything.
Ywy also sings in love vocal exept in Evaluation performance which is divided in 3 categories, C-group is much confident performing and singing in their language
So this is something I've noticed with a lot of the rappers this season, and I just want to say this so no one thinks I'm necessarily cornering Fu Yaning only. She's just an example. The problem with Fu Yaning's rapping is that she always uses an aggressive, hard and low voice, which is kind of what an amateur would think good rapping sounds like. If you listen to either Vava or Yeeun (OG rappers of the songs/parts she performed), they both sound more relaxed and there's a lot more variation in their voice. A good rapper knows how to play with rhythm, tone, dynamics and pitch. Compared to them, Fu Yaning's performance just sounds kind of flat and monotone. I wish they kept a rap mentor, or had like a 'rap tutor' come in for an episode and train the rap trainees. None of them are necessarily bad, but with direction they could be better.

i think in youth with you there was just a lot of auto tune during these "live stages" while in girls planet was really their raw vocals

Well not really, because some of the trainees made a lot of mistakes on their performance. if it’s really auto tuned then can you explain why this performance is quite Messy,
P.S: I’m not saying their performance is bad, I’m just citing some examples for others to understand

it's not autotune, it's backing vocals that are recorded within the arrangement. but i believe the chinese girls overall perform better in their mother language, they sound better and they have more confidence. a lot of them are struggling with korean
You mean in Korean stages...they tend to autotune all their performances.

Ahh I already like so many of the girls already, I shouldn't have watched this, Wang Yale did really well in both performances. I hope she isn't eliminated. Now I have another to root for. I already have Cai Bing, Xu Ziyin, Xia Yen, Shen Xiao Ting, Su Rui Qi, and now Wang Yale from the C group.
