I hate that these concerts were the last time Phil played with the guys, but I can understand why he didn’t want to do Dead & Co. I’m so glad that there is such a wealth of recording and live albums. ❤ Rest in Peace, Phil. Fly high, legend. ✌️
This is an excellent version! 70+ year old musicians still bringing it to the audience. No backing tapes, no lip syncing…just years of playing and experience! Today’s music is polished and corporate…and lacks all feeling.

@@alanforehand Exactly. My daughter, who is an operatically-trained singer, sang Schubert's "Ave Maria" at the funeral of her grandmother (my mother) because grandma had once told her it was her favorite song. She sang beautifully, with great feeling and never a stumble or crack. I, on the other hand, was in a puddle on the floor.
I did acid with Phil in 1971 when I asked Jerry if I could sit behind the amps and he said yes. I climbed up to the amps and went through the first opening between the amps and I find Bear dropping liquid acid from a squeeze bottle onto the back of people’s hands and then they licked it off. I stuck my hand out and he four big drops on the back of my hand and I licked it off. The acid was so good and I was tripping by the end of Sugar Magnolia.at the first set people were moving around and I got up and wandered over to check out their gear and Jerry walked over to me and handed me a big fat joint, which we passed back and forth and we smoked half of it. People saw what we were doing and headed over,so I thanked him and went back to my spot behind Pigpen. I asked Bear if I could get some and he hooked me up with his local dealer. It was a dude and his wife who were both artists and he had the job of moving artwork that was worth millions. The first tabs were pale blue and when you looked at them while tripping they seemed to glow. They were selling it to me for 30 cents a hit. I asked people to pay $5 dollars, because no one had access to Bears but me. I ended up knowing people that were involved in every aspect of the underground acid world. I loved Phil and everyone involved with the band. Thanks Phil❤️⚡️🎸⚡️
FTW was a beautiful magical time. The last time the tribe and core four were all together. Many tears of joy and sadness. RIP Phil. You know our love will NFA 💀🥀💜
beautiful song, touching story of reason for it so can see why it was Phil who would sing it, great instrumental playing. Phil really can't sing though.
That's Trey, and it's The Grateful Dead. That was their farewell show that they did a few years back to mark their 50th anniversary. Trey filled in for Jerry.
Hey, Mr. Lesh, you would be better stay on shadow Giants Only playin your bass guitar not bother us with your terrific voice for all those who are Always recognizable as hard bad taste of music appreciation. Dislike for you and call Jerry and Weir back to do and teach how it could be without any ebarrased for our ears and fellings.

Fly high Phil! Such a long time to be gone and a short time to be there.
AWESOME!! Been listening to this whenever I can find it and this ranks up there, especially at 75!! What a guy! What a song!!
Rest in Peace Phil you were the bus that carried all those wondrous jams and guided Jerry and the rest of the band to untouched soundscapes ❤❤
Pretty damn good for a 75 year old at the time. Awesome song, bass player and person...love ya Phil! 👍👍
I saw him a bunch times and was always taken by his style ,originality and humanity. He was greatness and shared it with us.Thank you, Phil.

Phil's masterpiece with Hunter is such a perfect song. Just gorgeous.
This, to me, sticks out as one of the best performances of Box of Rain. Phil sounds amazing, gives me goosebumps.
He sure does - im right there with ya brother
Agreed

What a joy to hear Phil sing this live, always :-)
Good version. Makes me miss Jerry so much.
Phil wrote this for his dad dyin for cancer.
Did anyone at the show mention Jerry?
Joseph Ravin idk i think not
@@billymitchell158 it's true. Wanted Hunter to write lyrics as a somewhat good bye song to his sick father.
Bobby had a moment of silence for all those who couldn't make it. Jerry, Brent, Vince, etc.
idk why but this feels way better then even the earlier box of rains
I feel that it's because of the vocals. Generally, Phil's vocals live aren't too good but in this they sound great.
In Phil we trust!!!
This was such a great way to get the weekend started.
that smile after "this was all a dream....." oh Phil 💕
How does Phil sing this without crying
Cuz he's a pros pro

Lazy L - I came across your work years ago with the Brothers at the Beacon. You are the king of that tape, hands down. Thank you sir.
LET PHIL SING!!
Great song Phil, Thanks so much !!
The Cody wrist band is such a powerful image while hearing this song.
It's a simple process to become an organ donor.
One of my favorite live versions of this song, ever. (The one on the best of fare thee well cd.)

This awakened memories of twenty years earlier. 😭
01/11/25 Thanks Phil!!
RIP Phil god bless him he was a very talented bass player very underated
GREAT PHIL, THANKS!!!
I will forever picture Lindsay Weir when I hear this song.
Someone must have been requesting Scarlet-Fire from Trey before they started playing, lol. ;)
Fare thee well, Phil ❤⚡💙
I was there!!!! Phenomenal!
RIP Phil !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow 😢
RIP Phil 🙏
i was jammin to this walking in through soldier field security were hassaling some guy about a joint holding everyone else up
Phil sound amazing - whole band killed this one. Something about Trey's solo just makes me so happy
RIP Phil, say hi to Jerry for us
Where do you think he's going that he can say hi to anyone? HELL IS THE DESTINATION FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW JESUS CHRIST
FARE THEE WELL,, PHIL,,, SING ALL YOU WANT!!!!
Going to miss Phil singing… never thought I’d say this
just awesome.
RIP Phil.
🙏
I have to repeat what Joe Shaefer said “ in Phil we trust “
you can tell trey definitely practiced that one a couple times over the years lol
Phil put Trey in his place for these shows so Trey's gay singing wouldn't invade the tunes. He really was the coolest. RIP bro
RIP Phil!
RIP PHIL
still love ya Phil 🎶
beautiful song, touching story of reason for it so can see why it was Phil who would sing it, great instrumental playing. Phil really can't sing though.
Phil (((❤))) 😢
Treys smile says it all
love you phil
the sound is incredible. are you hooked into the sound board?
Just my Sony camera. It does have good sound.
That one isn't mine.
😂
Is this Trey Anastasio? And what's this band? Phil & Friends?
That's Trey, and it's The Grateful Dead. That was their farewell show that they did a few years back to mark their 50th anniversary. Trey filled in for Jerry.
Wonder why no backup vocals
At the end ?
Right ?!
Is that bob in jeans?
Awww...Phil...
RIP Phil
Who is standing in for Jer?
looks like Trey
Rip Phil Lesh 😪😪
he wrote it
One of the last
I just Phil just noodling and Jerry Ofcourse
This clip makes it look like it was a 3 piece band.
Happy to see it, but weird camera work. Scarlet/Fire video here even more frustrating.
😔
Trey brings a different feel to the songs than Meyer, but it is often quite good. Phil reigns it all in, as always. RIP.
The film should have bob.Bruce Mickey to wtf
nav
Phil should quit singing the song gets worse and worse every time he does it. Father time has caught up to him.
So what. Who the hell are you? Your negative attitude makes me want to thow up. Let's see what you can do. Especially at that age.
@@billycramer8066 The Question is who the fuck are you.
This gets my vote for most absurd, pinheaded comment of the year. Congratulations!
I actually think this is one of his better live versions of this song. He's a little warbly, but he's got the spirit.
He sang this one better than he did in 1995, so…
