I was stationed on the Island of Midway 1962 to 1963. There are still big holes in my barracks stantions (steel beams)where planes projectiles went through.
The Battle of Midway proves that even against seemingly insurmountable odds, determination and leadership can change the course of history. Incredible.
There is a submarine of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force today named Soryu. Not sure why he used a sub icon to represent a carrier but the point of the video is still the same.
Wrong USS Hornet at 1:56, that's a pic of Essex-class CV-12 also named USS Hornet but it was the Yorktown-class USS Hornet CV-8 that was at the Battle of Midway
A better strategy would have had Yamato plus the 4 fast Kongo class battleships shell Midway at night to open up the battle. Destroyers escorts and subs would have been out ahead and also the IJN carriers behind to provide CAP. The IJN carriers would have been loaded 2/3 fighters not bombers. They would have knocked out all the the US carrier planes. The bomber planes with fighter escorts then go after the US carriers to wound them but the fast IJN cruisers and destroyers would finish off the carriers with their long lance torpedoes. Or who knows. If the US carriers dead in the water the US cruisers and destroyers may have tried to sink their own carriers to avoid capture.
Admiral Yamamoto counted on surprise, and he made no allowances in his plan, if it were not so. The plan was faulty in that it did not allow for the possibility the Americans might get wise, and move their forces accordingly. Even when the war games presented an unfavorable situation in which two Japanese carriers were sunk, the result was overriden and anulled by the umpires.
This is a inaccurate overview of the battle. Please read "Shattered Sword", 2005, for a real history lesson. (That will take longer than 5 minutes...history is like that).
The USS Yorktown CV-10 was launched in 1943. The CV-5, also named USS Yorktown, was its predecessor, and it sank during the Battle of Midway. The CV-10 was named to honor CV-5’s achievements.
The USS Yorktown is in the Charleston Harbor in South Carolina, just saying, it got damaged which lead to a tilt but got repaired at Pearl Harbor and went back to the battle of midway. JUST SAYING
That’s a different USS Yorktown. The one in. Charleston Harbor is CV-10. The one that fought at Midway was damaged at Coral Sea, mainly deck damage. Then it was sunk by a Japanese sub near the end of the Battle of Midway. That one was CV-5.
@@toastedgrapes7961 I relized that after a month lol my bad I thought cv5 went down at the coral sea but it went down at midway and cv10 faught at the coral sea, again my bad lol

Sadly, our armed forces lacks. We need new non-woke leadership!
Couldn't of happened without Rochefort. Codebreaker
Wow, the Soryu was a submersible aircraft carrier! Those Japanese sure were smart….
Thank you for this! It was a great way to learn the essentials of the battle of Midway in 5 mins :)
The battle took place 2 months after the Doolittle raid on Tokyo. Hectic times in those early months of the war.
nice video. thanks for sharing
one thing: at 4:16 Soryu looks like a submarine

I noticed that it said that the yiryu was destroyed, I thought they scuttled the ship?
Great Video!!!
Hey man, love the vid and glad that you are back to normal schedule posting! Do you have an email?
*losing 4 of the 6 fleet carriers that attack pearl harbor destroyed the hopes of the ijn*
explosion sounds too load, but thanks for the video
You show the Essex class Hornet, the Yorktown class Hornet was at midway
Also that not at all Soryu
They should have sent the Yamato as part of the protection fleet for the carrier.

Borders are a lot better than the Barbarossa vid so nice improvement
It's still not perfect tho like Manchurias a mess and indochina is cut of at the top
we will check it out
Why did you put a submarine instead of a carrier, when citing Soryu? The rest and the story are OK.
Your channel us awesome u dont know Y it's not growing
Thank you so much 😀

Soryu saw you at the last minute, and was quickly turned into a sub...but it wasn't one originally.
Soryu was a sub ???
Is this a 5th grader’s view of the battle? A submarine picture?
Your video's maximum high quality is just 360p which is downbad
also where is hiryu
source?
soryu was a submarine??
Ultimately. As the old Navy saying goes, "all ships can become submarines."
soru is a submarine lol why is soryu a sub lol

You ever seen the film Midway (2019)?
If you know the real history of The Battle of Midway, do not watch it I repeat do not watch it.
3:39 Launched 4 Japanese aircraft carriers? How exactly do you launch an aircraft carrier?
*FROM carrier...
I know what he meant, but the video says “launched 4 Japanese carriers”, not launched from.
it can be technically be used for carriers
"The 4 carriers of the kido butai were launched to initiate Operation MI" or somethin'
and please ignore my wrong grammar
@@Project_VideoGame
Or four carrier were launched from th shipyard...
This speaker is reading the Wikipedia page on the battle verbatim. Very cheap as the speaker is also computer generated.
the yorktown was bombed first and now asttacked by a sub
Wrong the USS Yorktown survived cv10 your thinking of Yorktown cv5 which sank later the the pacific war.

Thumbs down for the Japanese Battleship graphic actually being an aircraft carrier. Is this laziness or ignorance?
