  • Dartmoor National Park archaeologist Andy Crabb leads an illustrated talk looking at what life was like for our ancestors on Dartmoor around 3,500 years based on the excavations of the incredible White Horse Hill burial and the Bellever hut circle.
This is a recording of a live talk delivered over a video conferencing app during 2020. As a result the sound quality is unfortunately poor at times.

The microphones used in this talk were excavated from a round barrow dating to around 2000bc, where they'd been unceremoniously buried after the Beaker Folk moved into the region, bringing with them more up-to-date audio equipment.

Interesting and fascinating. I wish the audio could have been a but more clear. I seemed to miss key words and had to re-listen. Thank you for the presentation.

Fantastic analysis. I am full of admiration for the work in learning so much from what looks like a pile of poo. It makes one wonder how much damage must have been done during the Victorian era’s many digs when they had less understanding and less tools available.

    Mind blowing.
So a lady then, with a checkered basket. With a necklace. With a shiny tin bead in the center at her throat to draw the eye.
Oh woman, oh woman! Who were you? What did you look like? What did you do? How did you live--- and die?
    You will haunt me now.

Quite regrettable audio quality. Excellent content. Thank you archaeologists. AV guys should keep their day job.

The AV guy is probably also one of the archaeologists. But yeah, so bad I want to send them a decent mic.
