  • Here at Nate's Garage and Bakery, the interests run far and wide. So here we are with a plasma cutter. Sure, I could design stuff and have a local shop cut it out on their plasma or laser CNC, but that would require... how you say... planning ahead? I'm on the fly, like erry day! I want something cut out right now and it's Saturday, I don't wanna wait until next Thursday when I can get to the place because that's the only time their open during the week that I'm not also at work!
    The Cut Shifty is doing the trick! You can't even get a plasma cutter at Horror Fright for this low of a price.
    As with all things on this severe, cheap end of the spectrum, you're getting it inexpensively and you're putting some time into it to get it working right. Otherwise, you'd be spending more... probably A LOT MORE... and getting something that not only works out of the box, but has a reputation for working well for a long time.

    One my best investments has been to get a powerplasma cutter. So very useful.

    wire ferrule is the proper way of doing this. the tinned wire will add resistance.

    So how well is it holding up for you so far.. I keep looking at those cheap o 200-300 cutters.. I wouldn't use one all the time but it would be nice to have one from time to time..

      It works every time I fire it up... Which is not often... Which is why I went cheap. Was handy for slicing a suspension bolt that had fused itself to the bushing sleeve.

      Bonjour, mon ami. Je ne parle pas Français pour de la merde, je suis désolé. Les trois années de lycée français sont révolues. Même maintenant, Google Translate m'aide. Merci, cinquante cinq. Veuillez regarder 19:59 dans la vidéo. And, as always, keep your tray table up and your seatback in the full upright position.

    Regarding cheap cables, you get what you pay for. Want a quality chinese made cable? Costs about the same as the one made in USA. Only buy cables and parts from known sources and not places that target consumers.

      The one I have is a spendy little punk, and I didn't even use it properly for some reason... you can rotate the little lever and slide it off the cable to slit the jacket lengthwise, too. I'll bet there are cheaper ones out there: www.amazon.com/Greenlee-1820-Round-Cable-Slitter/dp/B000X2H7P6/

      roy thornton Maybe I didn’t say it in this video but I did in a previous Cut Shifty video... the torch cable is 10-15 feet long while the work cable was just over 3 feet long. I don’t want to have to roll the cart this is going to live on so close to what I’m working on because of that limitation. And I felt like the clamp was chincy. So I made it better. Who said anything about Craig’s List? This is something for my personal use, so I’m gonna do whatever I want to it to make me happy to use it.

    What do you think about increasing the size of the power cord to a 10-3 wire. That is what my 220 plug is wired with that I am plugging it into. The power cord on it now is tiny I honestly do not know how it works.

    • @NatesGarageBakery
      @NatesGarageBakery  5 лет назад

      I don't believe it is necessary. Even though it's a "50-amp plasma torch", it does not take 50 amps from the wall. While I haven't tested it to see how much it actually uses, I'd be surprised if it was over 15 amps from a 220V outlet, and the cord that comes with it is good enough for 15A. Same principle as how those little thin wires on power transmission towers can supply power to a whole neighborhood.

    My brother and fellow tinkerer I will be wondering if the guts and consumables are the same it be Chinese and all from one machine to the next and or brand name to the next
    Ok with the question
    I have a lotos plasma cutter and the twist in couplers you are working with look to be the same as on my plasma cutter
    And if by chance will I be able to switch out the gun to something else if you my be able to present a degree of knowledge on this type of thing and or things I will greatly appreciate it thank you in advance

    • @NatesGarageBakery
      @NatesGarageBakery  7 лет назад

      A quick E-bay search for "Lotos Plasma Cutter Consumables" brings up stuff that looks the same as what works on the Cut Shifty. I think there's a bunch of stuff that uses the same, including some Esab "higher-end" units.
      I haven't gone so far as to take the gun apart to figure out if it could be replaced, but the only connections it should have are air, big electricity, and a trigger signal. I don't see why it couldn't be.

    Question for you maybe an old extension cord cut in half and double it would work with out spending hard earned dollars
    My idea I guess sorry my mind too

    • @NatesGarageBakery
      @NatesGarageBakery  7 лет назад +2

      You know, I hesitate to condone such jank-ness... you're talking about using an extension cord, 2 or 3 conductor, cut in half, then tying all the conductors together on both ends, and using it as the cable for the work clamp?
      While I'm sure it would work, don't call me when it doesn't cut through anything thick or burns your place down.

    I never try to crimp those terminals when I make up batteria cables. Instead, I clamp the ring end of the terminal in the vise with the socket end up. Then I fire up the propane torch and melt solder into the terminal. Then I heat up the wire and tin it, and while I heat up the terminal again, I stick the end of the cable into the terminal and let it cool. Then I put on a couple of layers of heat shrink and Bob’s yer auntie!
