Same way I feel when I look at videos which pre-date my own. I'd love to see pictures of the place when it was in it's heyday, can't seem to find any online.
I'll be watching your video soon then!

After a quick bit of google trawling I found more than just the answer. A family member no less, who is asking for help on this. i'll try to cut and paste the site addy and the message he has written. I do not know the chap but im assuming he's contactable via the site/link below.
    www.28dayslater.co.uk/threads/cattistock-lodge-dorset-december-2015.100871/
Here is his message as follows :~
    #14
I can shed light and I want to make a big plea, which I will leave to the end. Peggy was known to me as she was my Father's common law wife until he died in 1992, whilst I was still relatively young. I spent many a time at Cattistock Lodge, in its heyday and also when it began falling apart. My Father was a surveyor, and they both lived principally in London (Grafton way, London W1). So I either saw him, along with Peggy, in London or at Cattistock. Somewhere I do have a photo of my Father and I together on the lawn looking back at a then-very magnificent Cattistock Lodge in around 1985.
I recall that Jaguar in what was a barn, and I remember running to my Dad asking excitedly 'what is it?'. it was then- must be around 1986 or so- a bit rusty and dusty, but would definitely have been a brilliant restoration project. How sad to hear the barn collapsed and anything worth saving was then lost. I assume it must have belonged to Peggy's Father, Percy, who bequeathed everything to her I believe. He founded the Westminster travel agency that she then ran when he died- I also recall many an occasion when they watched processions, in particular royal occasions, from their offices in Westminster. I met Percy, he was a portly and jovial man, and kind if a little eccentric. I suspect that is where Peggy got her eccentricity from.
Lets call a spade a spade- I've read it said that she was not a hoarder. Peggy hoarded beyond hoarding, and then some. She hoarded houses, let alone possessions!
In my father's lifetime, he constantly bailed Peggy out and spent every moment that he wasn't working, propping up her collection of properties. Apart from Cattistock Lodge, there was one in Hayes, and I know there were others, but not where they were. What Peggy did was refuse to let any of them go as various members of her family passed, and so the two of them, along with her collection of cats (yes- at one point there were at least 13 cats living at Cattistock Lodge, possibly more) roamed the country looking after them. However, she had little cash (I have no idea why) and it fell to my Father to try and persuade her to let things go for her own sake, as well as his.
At one point, the house in Hayes which belonged to her Father Percy was about to be repossessed by the bank and my Father stepped in and bought it from her to spare her the heartbreak. God rest my Father's soul... because having exchanged contracts to buy the house from her, she then refused to complete the transaction and he was accused by the bank of being in cahoots with her to stop the bank from repossessing it! He faced the dilemma of 'do I force her to complete via the courts, but she could face imprisonment as a result if she continues to refuse, or do I allow myself to be accused to deliberately preventing the bank repossess the house?' My Father was as honest as the day is long. But he did not force her to complete the house sale, and took the flack from the bank instead.
When my Father (Keith Joseph Briggs, FRICS) died suddenly in 1992, it became apparent he had excluded Peggy from his will and he was explicit as to why... because, much as he loved her, she had drained him and he wanted me to inherit from his estate and not for it to be swallowed up by her shenanigans. That, for the record, did not happen- because in her inimitable fashion, Peggy contested my Father's will and refused to vacate his property preventing it from being sold for years. Rather than fight Peggy through the courts, I told her at the outset I would split the estate 50/50 with her, but she refused, saying it wasn't about the money- she didn't want to part with the memories of my Father and wanted to stay at the property.
Unbelievably, she went to the press as, by now the bank which was also my Father's executor, was owed more than the estate was worth and they called the bailiffs in to remove her, and she accused me of having her thrown onto the streets with nowhere to live. Nothing could have been further from the truth! I had no say in the matter, other than that I supported the bank's decision because I hated the thought of my Father's estate going into the red- he would have hated that. So the press printed a story about how horrible I was, and how this poor old OAP was thrown onto the streets (actually, she broke back in after being removed by the bailiffs, but that's another story...). She also owned a plethora of other houses she could have lived in, not least Cattistock Lodge, but that didn't seem to make it into the newspaper article.
I had just started quite a high profile business, and it was cringeworthy to have such things said, but much like my Dad in his lifetime, I didn't hate Peggy- I just considered she was nutty. Believe it or not, we maintained contact and in 2008, when I met my wife, Peggy and her 'new' partner Ronnie were invited to our wedding and they attended- I will attach their photo from our wedding, the last photo I have of her, tho not the last time we saw her. We also continued to send Xmas cards, but I did not receive one in return a couple of years ago, and I wondered if she had died. Today my wife and I and our daughter visited my Father's grave and were quite shocked to find that she had been laid to rest there in 2016.
We had driven past Cattistock Lodge and we were horrified by the state of it, even if we were aware it was falling apart a long time ago. That is what sparked me doing a Google search on Cattistock Lodge and what led me to your website and thread. I couldn't believe my eyes- toe-curlingly, I remember using that toilet on the first floor and looking up at the cobwebs on the ceilings... Now there is no floor, just the toilet attached to the wall. Unbelievable.
Its been interesting reading on here about Peggy owing money- and it brought back a memory of what I think was a Greek accountant who had tried persistently to acquire Cattistock Lodge from Peggy... and I vaguely recall my Father being vehemently opposed, as I believe he was attempting to offer her little money up front for it with her having some sort of lifetime occupancy. Perhaps that is what happened, tho I can't believe he would have thought she would live to 90, or that it would have fallen to rack and ruin in her lifetime. My Father, being a building surveyor, had wanted to help her apply for consent to turn Cattistock Lodge into a hotel or a Guest House, but as with most other things, she refused. I remember him telling her 'but that's all this man is going to do!'. How sad that not only was my Dad no doubt right, but that ALL of her worldly possessions and properties fell to ruin around her, that she lived such a bizarre and spartan life, and how different her life could have been.
The last time we saw Peggy would have been around 7 or 8 years ago- my wife and I were driving past Cattistock Lodge and, by chance, Peggy was out in the road in clear plastic bag-overalls, attempting to cut the hedges by herself. She would have been in her 80s, and it was such a sad thing to see (but very in keeping with her eccentricity). We stopped and spoke to her- she said then she had been burgled during the night and had been terrified. We also saw one of the roofs caving in towards the front of the property, but still she insisted on living there. We just don't know how she could have lived there like that, as so many of you have written. But she did.
So, Cattistock Lodge was indeed grand in its day, and it is only because of Peggy's eccentric ways that her Father's much-loved country house is now dangerously derelict. Yet none of us, my wife and I included, not to mention my Mother before she passed away, would have hated Peggy even if she had, through her actions, caused us all much angst.
My abiding memory will always be twofold- first, of happy times visiting it and sharing a caravan with my Father which was kept in a courtyard accessed via the overgrown drive to the right of the house, and the sadness of attending my Father's funeral with him (against our wishes) being in his coffin in the rear lounge, with numerous cats running all over him- which Peggy insisted was to 'show them he had died so they understand'. Now to see that same room in your various photos in such a state.
My plea. Peggy refused to let me have anything of my Father's when he died. She insisted she needed to hold on to his possessions to hold on to him (much as she had done when anyone had died). Somewhere, in what was a locked room at Cattistock Lodge on the ground floor, were all my Father's chattels. Be they from his time during WW2 in The First Artist's Rifle regiment, or his work as a building surveyor (K J Briggs FIRCS). I now realise the place has been ransacked by burglars and that many people have rummaged through things. I have no way other than by asking if any of you has something of my Father's, to please let me have it. Not for monetary reasons, but because I have nothing of his.
I'll attempt to search out the photo I have somewhere taken on the lawn at Cattistock Lodge of me with my Father just before he died, but meantime I am attaching the photo of Peggy and Ronnie and our wedding in 2008. At least it puts a face to the name for those who didn't know her.
Thank you in advance for anyone's help.

Played catch-up last night, just finished... just a comment on I think the previous video. I too started the KETO diet and instantly noticed more energy and less of the need to crawl into a corner after a carb filled meal... far less mood swings from insulin crashes... a friend of mine said Egyptians first used wheat as a means to get high (sounds far fetched but... well yeah) leave it at that... KETO is good... long live eggs.

I did 10 days, then I've been on a carb binge for the past two. Don't really feel much more energy (although I was on a lovely sugar buzz last night at dinner time!) So I'm going back to low (almost zero) carb as of tomorrow. Still more experimentation to be done. Thanks again for watching Paul.

Did you know the family? I looked that location up, it's in Hayes, Essex correct? But the houses on that street looked too modern to have been built in the late 30's/early 40's which is when I presume the family may have lived there before moving to Cattistock Lodge. Do you know how old the houses there are for sure?

No in Hayes Middlesex (not too far from Heathrow Airport). My parents probably knew him if he was a local councellor and lived up the road. I may have even met him as a child.
Yes the houses are very much there today. Not sure how old they are though.
I wonder why the property was abandend. Maybe a local historian could assist?

@@petealder9389 I meant Middlesex! I Googled it because I had that old address but like I say, the houses didn't look old enough.
There is an urban exploration website called 28dayslater & there are one or two people sharing some great info on Cattistock Lodge there, it's quite a sad story.
I now believe that Mr & Mrs Soulsby had four children, two of whom died fairly early on (adults, but childless). One was Margaretta "Peggy" Soulsby who died as recently as 2016, & a friend of mine found an obituary for old man Soulsby which said he even had another son, so there may yet be living Soulsby's out there.
I made a follow up episode here with a bit more information: ruclips.net/video/KEpnZU3vztI/видео.html
But as to who technically owns the house who knows. I intend to return to the village in the not too distant future to ask around.
      Thanks for watching & commenting!

Hey man, I’ve been here in 2016/17, those Christmas decorations weren’t always there 🤔 Did you see the old abandoned Rolls Royce out back? Also there were letters addressed to someone who worked for the queen🧐

    • @myfrequencies1912
      @myfrequencies1912  4 года назад

I believe Sheila was one of the daughters & she lived in the smaller house adjoining the back of the main house. She had an obsession with Christmas & apparently never threw anything out including cards & decorations. Visitors must have unpacked them & decorated the place a bit I guess. I certainly did see the car but only after watching others' videos did I explore the grounds. I made other smaller episodes & the car in in part III I think. Man, so much paperwork! That's what makes it such a fascinating site. But no, I did not find letters to someone working for the queen.
The holy grail would be the title deed document! lol
I have recently spoken to someone I managed to dig up in connection with the place. He says it's going to be redeveloped soon. Several houses, one of which will be modelled on the original lodge which will be torn down to make way.

I came here on a tip from another Channel. It started very well. After seeing his video I really wanted to find out more. However once you arrived at the place I had seen enough after 6 minutes in to the house scenes. I know its trashed, I know its fallen down, but the way you were chucking letters and cards around was not nice to see. Please don't add the link to your clarification video here, I am not writing this to troll you. Its simply in my opinion and out of respect the way I feel about all that personal history.
