Your video was what I needed today. I had just gotten home from the hospital where my mom is slowly dying. I feed her, and just love on her. I have your book with me so I can look at it while she sleeps. My art making is so very different than yours, but I get energized and I love the colors and shapes and beauty of your art. And like I say, it helped me so much today. Thank you-from my heart. ~Debra
Oh I'm so sorry Debra that you are facing such a difficult and heartbreaking season of life. Sending you lots of love and strength for the difficult path ahead. Art is definitely a balm for the soul..and it's important to seek small moments of joy isn't it?. lots of love Helen x
Several times this year I've found myself in an artistic lull where your videos have kick started creativity. I just love the way you share your work and perspective!
I am always inspired by your videos. I don't think it even matters what kind of medium one works in, your ideas and examples and enthusiasm are always uplifting!
Helen, I do appreciate these times when you look at art books and other creatives and pull little gems of ideas from their work. This is the second time I've watched this video, as it was really thought-provoking. I absolutely agree art can be a great mood uplifter and calming. The other phrase of 'being curious, observing and playing' is something else I will definitely remember as I continue with my own artmaking. It is a great way to learn and grow. I love your 'creative soup' style and await your next direction with eagerness!
Another uplifting and inspiring video! I particularly loved the (new?) blue/black/white paintings. I think they're vases with leaves coming out of the top, but to me they look like adobe houses with palm trees behind. I love the loose brush strokes.
Hello from rainy Vancouver, Canada! Your cheerfulness and beautiful, bright colours are just what I need today. Marion Deuchars' book looks like something I'd enjoy. I have disabilities that limit my energy and if I make art in small chunks of time then it's a sustainable (and enjoyable) practice. Thank you so much for sharing, Helen. Your videos always brighten my day. Peace to you.
A delight as always to watch another inspiring video Helen. Your finished pieces are beautiful 😍and your sketchbooks a true inspiration. I’ve just started a large A3 DR book from watching your channel. I have 4 art journals in various sizes on the go. I’m observing how long I’m taking on the first pages, trying to perfect a masterpiece rather than just playing and letting go. I’m still trying to find my style and creative language. It’s like I’m crawling, knowing I can walk but actually want to run but unsure of the direction if that makes sense? Look forward to your next video and creative project Helen 🙏🏻😊🙏🏻
How lovely you are. And that makes perfect sense…I think a sketchbook is a great place to find out who you as an artist, try things on, don’t turn up thinking you have to be fully formed, think of it more as a safe place to discover through filling it up. Enjoy the journey x
Need that push today! ❤ I have not created much in over a month. Those books sound very good. 😊 Your videos always make me happy and feel inspired. I just need to get in there and create! Love those lovely paintings. 😊
Oh thank you Madelyn you are very kind and I hope you find a starting point... Getting started with creating is often the hardest bit isn't it? Good luck. Love Helen x
Oh thank you. I’ve recently sold a few of these so I’ll perhaps have to see if I can get some photos from the buyers re how they framed them…I tend to sell my works on paper unframed x
Who was it that said Oh you are awful on an old TV show? Well…I say it to you! I have ordered a copy of Marion’s book and it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get to me in Hastings…but Down Under! Thank you so much for another uplifting video. I adore your work and have done some of you courses which I find so easy to follow. Not so easy for replicate the beauty you deliver but loads of fun. Thank you for bringing joy xxx
Oh I’m sorry to be a book temptress…ha ha..I think the TV person who said ooh you are awful but I like you was Dick Emery? But I might be mistaken. That’s a real blast from the past. Thank you for your wonderful kindness. Love Helen xx
Wow. You are a pleasant unexpected surprise, to have you pop up in my youtube. This is a great quality video, with worthwhile information, inspiring art, & a beautiful soul. Thanks for sharing this video. Video notes: "When life is hard; when challenging things are happening in life... Art/ "looking at pictures" can be a "refuge; place of beauty.. of hope... to inspire... a source of possibility... a place to reflect." (Art Against Despair)....And doing art with a view of "letting go of the outcome" / also a good life lesson.... Process: "'Curiosity, observation, & play'... for igniting creativity." (based on book: Make Everyday Creative: Art Anyone Can Do).
Hi there Helen your work is so unique you inspire me but I'm having trouble making my lines work in the drawing process anything can you can suggest to help me get it right much appreciated
Oh thank you. They are from a British brand called Daler Rowney and I buy them at Cass Art. They are quite good value and readily available here in the UK. If you are not in the UK this brand at be difficult or expensive to find….
You are very perceptive. I do very much love this type of embroidery. My Mum was studying creative embroidery when I was little and I was exposed to all sorts of fabric related art which seems to have percolated into how I make art now. Thank you xxx

Hi there, thank you so much. I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say making your lines work...
Hi. I'm loving your videos. Will you please tell me where you get your large scale sketchbooks? Thank you!
Oh thank you. They are from a British brand called Daler Rowney and I buy them at Cass Art. They are quite good value and readily available here in the UK. If you are not in the UK this brand at be difficult or expensive to find….
@HelenWellsArtist thanks. I'm in the US and found something similar, I believe. Moleskin has an A3 watercolor albumn
What sketchbook did you use for the black and white vases etc
It’s a Venezia Book from a brand called Fabriano x
@ I like the size of it…
I think you may like Boro & Kantha stitching, which may inspire some art….maybe …
