Your RV should be called "fridge" because it looks like a fridge and it keeps you cool. It is the proverbial white good. And also because it is not a fridge.
I like it, also because it's an appliance. It brings no joy, it only exists.
We could name it Matt’s private domicile
Smeg

Also because it’s not a fridge. Or cool.
Call it.... "Ham Sandwich"
I spat coffee all over the screen at " I waterboarded myself" The RV is certainly a well needed item for the desert, with good batteries and solar for the A/C.
Inevitably gearing this RV up for the RV races that definitely exist in some ungodly part of this world is gonna be a fun series. Looking forward to it.
I literally burst out laughing at the "Oh my god I bought another project...." your content is a gift to the internet Matt.
Also, maybe it will help if you name the RV "Not a Project."
RV name: “Super Fat Matt”.
I like that name :D
Not A Project, Yet; call it NAPY. also, its for taking naps in.
HAHAHA SAME
I did the same thing lol!!!
Matt is the only guy who’d not want another project, yet buys a V10 RV
I've only heard bad things about the triton V10 too. Diesel seems like the better option.
V10 is not bad once the plug issue is fixed. Problem is it's in a van chassis so makes it really difficult to work on. Also I'm getting around 6 mpg on mine with towing a 12,000 pound trailer but that should not matter to matt if he doesn't do a whole lot of miles.
Thinking about this, this means Matt has two V10 vehicles. Making it the most popular type of vehicle in his garage
6mpg? It'd be cheaper hiring a luxury yacht
@@chocosmith2243 Then you need a v10 e-350 to tow the yacht
Just an idea, you could throw a small solar panel on the land speed car with a 2 pin connector when not racing. 12 volt systems with a charge controller are like 60$ and would keep you topped up if you don't have an alternator. Also, those race suits with an ice cooler attached might be nice. Just have that on a cart beside you and disconnect for the start. Finally, IDk if you can regear the car, but there might be something to be said for putting a low ratio in first gear. Figure out what torque is required to break traction on the salt flats, and then set it just under that.
As always. Love the content
Love humour in the narration! Subscribed for more! Good luck with the projects!
"Coked up sixth grader at a toy factory"
Matt, you're a poet.
I had chocolate milk coming out of my nose after hearing this,,,😂
Rigged vote is the name.
The rigged boat (applicable name for all of Matt's projects)
It's big, it's white...
Hugo, of Looney Tunes fame 😂
Oh, is that what "RV" stands for.
@@jeremyholman exactly!
@@jeremyholman not sure people noticed "rigged vote" was said after the request to come up with a name for the RV 🤭
RV has to be named 'Bert' as in Munroe , love the content and the laid back way of presenting it, subscribed and will share. Thank you for taking the time to show us what you are upto :)
I love your delivery of the story ! keep up the good work !
A truly superb range of excuses, Matt. I therefore pronounce you a Genuine Racing Driver.
With all those excuses, i think he'd be truly a grudge racer
Or a fisherman....
Pronounce? Maybe proclaim?
@Dwarfracer88 no they got it right. "Proclaim" would be a statement made, a proclamation. To "pronounce" is to title or deam worthy of. It actually makes no sense when its broken down. That said its Anligsh and Anligsh may be the only language that is more confused than English
Maybe... Priest does 'pronounce' people married though...
for the RV: you bought a project that doesn't need to be a project until you're ready
if you like working on things, every new "thing" becomes a project, especially automobiles
2:44 love seeing the laptop going for a ride in this shot lol
Keep it up Matt, ❤ the videos!
Intro was nice foreshadowing for the closer, well done.
you should call the RV "Jag interior" so that when you say "i dont want to work on the jag interior" you're answering two questions at once
Love the new project can't wait to see the 3d scan
Real
Having also just bought an RV, welcome to a new kind of project hell! You're gonna love it. I highly recommend fixing the suspension, and yeah, I only know what you put in the video, but you definitely need it. Sway bars ftw
We had one of these with the V10 and it was awesome. We had no spark plug problems. My wife could drive it no problem. Plenty of power !! One other thing for when you’re waiting in line to race. You need to buy a Harbor Freight leaf blower, they have a lot of different types and many are affordable. Use it to cool yourself while waiting in line. Hill climbers on Nitro use them to get fresh oxygen (nitro is hard to breathe) Anyway nice to meet you. I’m a big tire bracket racer from Bethany Oklahoma (drag racer). Be safe Brother 🏁🇺🇸
2:22 battleships actually have pretty a good turning radius for their side, about 700 yards. I don't know what your turning radius is, but it could well be worse than a battleship
Yeah, I think he's got a problem if his turn radius is 700 yards
Matt really hit 88mph and said "we've gotta go back, back to the future"
Yeah missed opportunity there. 😂
Name it, The Desert Igloo. Being an 03, don't worry about shooting spark plugs. V8 and v10 2v modular engines got updated/increased thread count for the spark plug holes. 9 count, up from 4 in the earlier version heads.
New comer to your channel. Your dry sense of comedy is gold.
It's not that you bought another project... It's that there are some people (myself included) who always see what can be improved and made better and then once you see it, the disease takes over and you MUST do it! The disease makes everything a project.
Hey, I resemble that remark !
Just like Tim "The Toolman" Taylor. RRrrrr RRrrrr
What has been seen, cannot be unseen! I'm no engineer, but I know what you mean. Blame it on OCD!
Everything is a project when you’re an engineer
I feel seen. Please tell my partner this is why I've done basically none of the things she's asked me to, I have too many projects already
I'm in this comment and I don't like it. How do I get out??
LOVE IT. Absolutely LOVE IT. The glib comments, the self-deprecating, the content ... FABULOUS!!!!
An excellent series on just how hard it is to build a prototype racer.
First thing that popped into my head: you're gonna tow with it, almost exclusively as it's intended for race days and lake bed trips
Call it Toby
Or Towby
Nah. Carrie.

Old Towby: finest weed in the south farthing 🧙♂️
@@aarondcmedia9585 I like it, I knew there had to be some kind of White Whale/Moby Dick reference that could be done.
I have 2 of those v10s and have replaced a handful of the plugs that have blown out. If it's the 2 valve, get the Cal Van Tools 38900 and a few spare coils. It's intimidating at first, but it's a really easy job once you do it 2, 3 probably 4 times... Also, don't be afraid to drive it on 9 cylinders, its still 1 more than a v8. Just unplug the fuel injector and get to somewhere safe or even home first if you can stand the noise.
I think it must be the 2-valve because it was built before the 3-valve appeared.
Heck, I drove a 340k mile 2 valve v10 from Phoenix home to Michigan with a van in-tow while running on 7 cylinders. It wasn't the 3 dead cylinders that caused it to seem sluggish, it was the bad IAT sensor causing the computer to pull fuel and timing because it thought the intake air was 280 degrees. Oof.
Replace the plugs, torque to spec. And forget about it.
Old buddy of mine did the same thing, good suggestion.
You could name it "Casper". To fix the sparkplug problem they make helicoil kits for this problem. My Expedition had the same problem with the 5.4 and had a local garage fix it. Ford did not put enough threads in the head for the sparkplug. Never had a problem after fixing them.
It'd be really cool to see the RV transformation in parallel with the other projects. Keep it up Matt.
Pulled his chute at 88mph as he wasn't ready to travel to 1955 yet.
You should name the RV the "Stay Puft Marshmallow Van".
for moving the drag car you could get those furniture "skateboards" wich are just a square board w/ 4 caster wheels that can just swing around so you can just put the car on 2 of those and push it any direction you want (heck they do that for F1 cars)
"Not Another Project!" is my contender for the name. Or call the RV "Great White" and the landspeed car "Sailfish" for a little themed naming scheme. The aquatic naming scheme is funny to me both because it's ironic (the two vehicles are specifically meant for use in the desert) and it's apropos (the salt flats were once an ocean).
Great white and sailfish are my favorite serious suggestions so far! Although knowing Matt, he's gonna name it something far sillier.
Not Another Project, or NAP. Appropriate for a thing you NAP in.
@@TheLaXandro Yep, NAP time.
I like your idea, but it's easy to see she's a lady, her hips don't lie. How about "Nadia"? ... Nadia-nother Project.
Call it: Sparky
In hopes it will never throw them
In high school my friend had his RV nicknamed "The Stabin Cabin". Yes, he drove an RV to school on a regular basis.
"I'm going to buy an RV and going to specifically buy one that doesn't need to be a project" Literally two seconds later "Yeahhh, I already have a list containing 5 different things this project needs" Love it!
The RV just named itself, "Not Another Project".
Helmet visor tear-offs are a life saver when you're driving anything on dirt. Cheap vision insurance. Maybe a steering stabilizer to help out with the twitchy steering or like you said the ratio is just too high. It can get frustrating shaking down a new vehicle but it usually pays off in the end. The platform seems pretty solid and that engine can make some serious power.
Serious power?
Thought he said 106hp
Most cars have more than that
@@jakehildebrand1824 He said 193 at the wheels so out of a 1000cc engine in a light streamlined vehicle that's not too bad. With power adders those things can make 300+ fairly easy. This is a motorcycle powered land speed vehicle so there's specific class rules you have to fit into. Do car engines make more power than that? Yes. Is that specific engine fairly powerful for the size and weight? Yes plus it holds up to power fairly well. Serious power is relative to the subject being discussed.
Always enjoy the videos went ahead and subscribed!
I live in Georgia and hopefully one day I want to go to the salt flats. It's like a bucket list thing. as far as the RV I'm thinking Minnie Pearl.
Make sure you very diligently check that RV for roof and wall leaks. All the penetrations should be inspected and resealed as necessary twice a year. Moisture is the enemy of these vehicles and it kills a lot of them.
Yeah well he lives somewhere that gets like one inch of rain a year, so he's probably extending the inspection interval to longer than six months.
@@jaredlancaster4137 true:)
We have run a similar setup for a couple of years now. Basic white E150 with dual A/C units, bed, porta potty and an open trailer. Normally surrounded by 1/4 million dollar RVs and super high budget cars, we definitely feel like the Beverly Hill Billies of the paddock. Shoe-string doesn't even begin to describe it 😂
Man, I service crew for a local rally team, they're pretty barebones compared to some of the other teams set up, Like they've got a couple gazebo tents, but here's me with my old ass canvas swag and some custom pole A-frame I made so I can throw a tarp over the top of it. Looks odd but it's fast setup and works well
@@sirspamalot4014 that's awesome, we did rally racing between 2016-2019. Borrowed truck, borrowed trailer, good times.
@@Tulliocity Honestly, half the fun of the rally is camping and talking shit the night before, it's a good time
Ingenuity abounds on a shoestring budget. I would love to see some of the custom work from the shoestring budget teams. Necessity is the mother of all invention!
I've got a 1st gen Toyota Sequoia and a rented trailer for my Miata. Still a huge upgrade from driving the car to to track days in a racing seat with no A/C. 😂
10:25 😂😂😂😂 I about died.
I got a 1998 Itasca 24' on the Chevy platform (didnt want ejecto plugs) with 70,000mi. So far so good but man do I have to fight myself to just let it be good enough.
Absolutely AMAZING! Great stuff. Sub’d! From one coked up sixth grader at a toy factory to another..
El mirage on race weekends is so much fun. So many one off crazy contraptions going really fast out there. One of my favorites was a suoercharged Keith Black cut down to a straight 4 cylinder.. so much mad scientists out there..
The "Matt-mobile"
How about "The Vote Rig", because that's what it's going to be anyway?
I worked for the Summers Brothers in Ontario Ca. In the ‘80’s. They had the Golden Rod record holder land speed record holder,a very long,as in size land speed record holder. The story goes they took it Ontario Speedway and could not get it to the infield as the tunnel that went under the track was to steep of an angle for the length of the vehicle. I am guessing for some reason there were no provisions for other access. A good name for the camper,”Sparky” of course 👍😖
A past boss of mine is/was a land speed record holder. Some of the things in remember him mentioning are, the center of pressure needs to be behind the center of mass, he didn’t use a wing/tail because his was AWD, no flat surfaces, no decals because they trip the slip stream (everything was painted and then clear coated), he rolled once and the straps that kept his arms in place broke one of his arms so he had to fix their positioning. His was a 400+ MPH rig so maybe some of this does not apply.
That was a lot like my first El Mirage run: about 80 mph and no body.
Such a underrated channel. The stuff you build look very cool
Definitely not underrating builds by telling built stuff "looks" cool. :D
9:10 its been a while since i bought these batteries, but if i remember correctly the blue tops are deep cycle marine batteries. If you are running a total loss system i would recommend the deep cycle marine batteries they offer (whatever color they end up being) you can run them lower before you start losing usable voltage, and they can be run lower without damage then a normal car battery.
The "Blunder Buss" all implied cannotations apply including the fact that it might start shooting parts, hopefully at another project car.
Loved this video, your dry humor is always on point. As for the RV, it sounds like you'll be using it mainly for towing, so I'll suggest "Towinator" which makes it sound more badass than it is 😂😂😂
Livin' the dream, Bro!
Re: 2x2 or Side by Side racing? When I visited Indy for the MotoGP event, the campground turned into a race course after about 9pm and plenty of beverages. An oval around flaming barrels, mostly scoots but it was open-class. The crowd and the wipe-outs made it feel like Thunderdome. It was just as memorable as the racing on the track the next day. And yes, I left at midnight and it was still going strong.
I’ve been watching a couple of the other videos, pikes peak stuff, couldn’t remember why I had subscribed to your channel. Then this video reminded me lol. Originally it was that long long motorcycle. I sort of forgot about that thing.
I'd call the RV "Helicoil" because you'll need one for the spark plugs ejection situation.
The RV faster than the land speed vehicle? Moderately paced mat?
With 305 horsepower, even the truck-carrying-a-house is certainly faster than the LSV... except that the LSV only gets a limited distance to reach its top speed and the RV has the whole highway. My motorhome is much larger, has a version of the same engine with only 10% more power, and the only thing that keeps it from going over 120 km/h (75 MPH) is the limit in the engine computer.
Great video, 👍 Trials and tribulations of running a land speed machine only gets more complicated with the purchase of an RV called "The cooler" the place that you or steve McQueen go to contemplate your latest failure or how to escape without being caught😊
RV called “Dom Tow-retto” hahaha keep up the great work man!!
I use a back massager on my hoses when air is trapped.
Run the motor, massage the hoses.
Works great.
2:44 nice sketcy laptop mount, hope you bring a spare laptop 🫣
To match the "SuperfastMatt" theme, the RV should get a sticker of "SuperslowFlatt"
I would recommend going with a ultra chiller diy kit while waiting in grid. Wear the shirt and have a portable cooler with a battery. Have it hooked up while you wait and disconnect right before you go. It pumps cold water through it and is the best investment!
By far the best UHaul I ever got had that V10. Minneapolis to LA at 75 mph with a full load and a car in tow.
RV name suggestion: Odyssey (It was the Apollo 13 command module name) It successfully brought them home after a little electrical issue was discovered while doing the maiden voyage! Plus, Odyssey (the book) is about travel and adventure :) I'm sure you will have adventure in the Viper 4x4.
i've been watching your escapades for a while now, just like to say ,you are entertaining in your endeavours.keep filming matt as it gives me hope with some of my projects..and like you failure is just a step in the wonderful learning curve for knowledge...its still hard to take sometimes, but at least you make it fun. ..from Hastings,UK
Matt I learned about water/methanol boil off cooling systems the other day- this is how the Reno unlimited aircraft get away with having no air ducting. Pretty cool! And would be very easy to implement with your current setup.
THanks! I enjoy your honesty and sense of humor. Keep it up and O Yea BE SAFE!
Yass. Eventually come full circle into an RV electrification channel :-) see if you can find a wrecked ev platform that natively supports V2L. Eg byd, Hyundai ionic etc. Usually only buys you 2.4-3KW of V2L output but it's an easy package to work with. Typically integrated into the charger too (think it's the case with BYD at least). Would be super rad to see a parallel hybrid RV. Regen braking, better gas mileage etc. Big ass house battery :-)
I love these videos and I’ve been looking forward a lot to another one on this project 🎉😁
Great job on the video Matt! Thanks for making it.
Get some AC is a must, can instal some kit for engine, or with some diy you can dump some on the roof and power it with 600-700wats of power from solars (old rv refrigerator can works very good). Done both, both works fine.
For your ignition battery I believe if you are up to the task a possibly much better solution and that is to use a battery from a cordless tool. You would need to cut up a charger so that you have secure means to keep battery in place and to access its power. I personally have not done it but have seen several people in person and on RUclips use the extended life cordless batteries with great success. I have one friend who has done it for his dragster. He uses one battery to run his ignition/engine management system and a second battery to run his water pump and cooling fans. He starts the engine using an external battery. Also check on the rules about the use of memory foam for your seat pad as well as the rules of using pool noodles. Pool noodles are great to slice and put on the edge of your seat under you legs and can be “sewn together “ to create padding around the foot box and lastly have you considered a knee knocker pad. Additionally if the rule’s department doesn’t like pool noodles to pad the foot box area you should ask them about using window netting
RVs are a lifetime of projects, like a boat jr.
No junior about them. His one saving grace is his climate.
Nice new project brother, I can't wait to see the "van life" build ;)
Wonderful video, as always!
Finally an RV project. Was hoping for a vintage airstream of sorts but this will do 😌
Use a camel back for water. You just bite it. It has a slit like a plastic coin purse the banks used to give out. Just mount it somewhere in an insulated bag and put rubber bands around it to simulate the pressure of being stuffed in a pack. The mouth piece can be in your helmet pretty easily, use a soft mount so it doesn't get lodged in your face.
I’m not sure ever seen galvanized plumbing pipe used in a motorsports application before. Well done.
My mechanic friends pushed me in the direction of E-350 but with the 5.4L V8. I'm putting a high roof on it in a couple months, but it's just an extended body variety cargo van.

There are various "RV" records, but I haven't seen one for a Class C (like Matt's) which is an actual functional RV (rather than an empty shell).
I’ve been looking forward to this day for a while now! Thanks for your entertaining content, Matt.
RV Name: "Project Creep"; because it is ... and also, in dark moments, it's what engineers are called when they can't let a scheme go.
I love how with RUclips there are so many great storytellers who happen to be experts in another field.
since it will haul you+stuff, i'd vote for "donkey". also because it's an rv and so a constant source of small problems, you will probably call it an ass fairly often.
