I just realized that Shawn and Sam have a lot in common. They both only train around 5 hours a day, they both go to school, and they both have Chinese coaches from Beijing. Even their body types are similar and they are both powerful :P
I remember reading an interview with Steve Nunno where he said he didn't want his girls to quit school. He felt it was valuable for his girls to have a life outside the gym.
full time student...commoon what kind of school ends at 12.30pm? usual school last until 3.30pm and then you have to do the homework, you barely have a time for a regular training.
I don't know how she felt about that - but it seems like it would have been nice. Getting to compete in the Olympic games, without all of the extra stress. And she got a silver medal to boot.
@yasmine10194 they both went to high school, but obviously both graduated already :) (i'm not sure about chellsie but nastia did 1/2 a day at a private school)
she's great, but she is not the only gymnast who goes to school. actually, the majority of the major players do: bridget, shawn, nastia, chellsie, sam, alicia, rebecca b, ivana, most of them do
no its a horrible feeling going so far and not being able to showcase yourself on the olympic stage. she probably feels unaccomplished and thats y she is still working hard at the sport. she wants another chance to reach her ultimate goal in gymnastics and she can.
Actually...I'm not sure she would have been used at all in the finals. Bridget Sloan had really passed Sam on Vault...but this is judging what Sam did at Trials. And FX, while Sam might have been a better choice than Alicia (and ultimately Bridget too!), I think they would have gone with the 3 they did.
@Puppylovr81 im not bragging! :( im just saying it is extemely tough toget through i know what its like! i didnt mean to come off like i was bragging i was just saying that im 13 and im already experiencing this kind of pressure and its amazing how we can relate :)
as opposed to what, exactly? she's living The Life. that SHE CHOSE. For HERSELF. there are kids working in factories & in farms, not going to school, to earn money to send back home. in hazardous conditions, with no one in their corner or watching their backs. Now Sam's giving back by hosting Beam Queen Camps & doing commentary for NBC Sports. @ the Olympics. I'd say that's pretty damn awesome! & I think your crystal ball is most definitely CRACKED.
Shawn Johnson didn't do two a days- in fact she only did 4 hour practices a day while most/all of the other team members did 6-8 hour practices

It was sad that she got injured, because she didn't get the chance to shine like she obviously would have. A very talented young lady.

Shawn was also in 'real' high school, so Sam was definitely not the only one.
And they are both just great
@QuittersTry what about BB? Isn't that her strongest event?
full time student...commoon what kind of school ends at 12.30pm? usual school last until 3.30pm and then you have to do the homework, you barely have a time for a regular training.
what events was she suppose to compete in during the olympics before she got hurt??
I don't know how she felt about that - but it seems like it would have been nice. Getting to compete in the Olympic games, without all of the extra stress. And she got a silver medal to boot.

She didn't - she switched AFTER the Olympics when her coach moved back to China to be closer to his family.

Sam go to private high school, but Shawn go to public high school, which is even more impressive!

Obviously, you didn't have a nice life as a child. It's not her fault.
What a horrible life for a child.
