@@lostsheepadventures I go up there often. I bumped into the dude who restored the Renata hut and he said that back in the day, he used to drive all the way to the waitararu hut in his Ford Cortina lol. But yer it changes every time I go up there.
If you are up this way again I've got a gnarly as hill climb on my forresty block in otaki, about 5 km of tracks in total most are medium but there is a few nuts bits.
Great video, I want to get into four wheel driving and was looking at getting a short wheel base 2 door Pajero . What’s your opinion on a small 4WD entry level truck?
2 doors are weapons offroad. the shorter wheel base means more maneuverability and you don't get stuck in holes the long wheel bases left behind. Smaller carry space though and usually weighty in the rear end due to the swb. Otherwise, they are awesome little weapons that will surprise you
Sadly not. We ran out of time before we needed to make our way back out and catch the ferry heading to the south Island. It was definitely more of a scouting mission to know what to expect next time.
@@lostsheepadventures the site tracks on the way to the top car parks are a good time but they are one way and require recovery gear and some time on hads and a winch.
It is no longer impossible to drive to the hut on odlins road with four-wheel drive or four-wheel motorbike some one with balls might be able to do it with a two wheeler the track has slipped away

This is a good track and if you make it to the top car park then down to the hut you can camp for the nite
Unfortunately we had to head out to catch a ferry south. I now know there is more to this road and will be back in the future to finish the track.
